I was already out of high school by the time this movie came out, but could still relate to a lot of it. Fantastic, timeless movie.

And I watched it for the first time in 2000, just after I graduated high school. It definitely felt relevant to me as well.

Can confirm that it is timeless and great, as I was born 10 years after the movie came out and saw it for the first time in high school and I loved it.

My two favorite parts are when he's running to beat his parents home and when they're at the Cubs game and Ferris says, "Hey, Cameron. You realize if we played by the rules right now we'd be in gym?" lol. The whole movie is great and literally takes place in the year I was born so I love looking at all the old mid 80's aesthetics. Also Chicago is a cool city and the movie really is a love letter to Chicago in '86.

Yeah it made me love Chicago, too

“It’s ridiculous.....being afraid, worrying about everything, wishing I was dead, all that shit. I’m tired of it.” - Cameron Frye Relating to Cameron's speech, I planned a solo trip to England and Scotland in 1987. My friends and family were shocked, as all my life I had been a serious wuss.

Cameron isn't the only character to experience a transformation in the movie, Jeanie and Salone also have some sort of transformation.

Mr. Beat, theres no other way to put this. You're one of the most competent, wisdom-filled, analytical people on this site. Your "Brief History of Nirvana" video came out when I started getting into them, and your video played on a lot in that. They're extremely influential to me, and a lot of that is because of you. Hughes also had a general disregard for how so many movies were set in NYC. That's why I believe most of his movies take place somewhere in the midwest, i.e. _Home_ _Alone,_ _Milwaukee._ in 1990.

Funny you mentioned Winnetka. The house where Home Alone and Home Alone 2 was filmed, is in Winnetka. John Hughes and Chicago are synonymous in the filming world.

Yep, I've also visited Home Alone filming locations there. In fact, the exterior shot for Ferris's mom's work is the same building as where Kevin McCallister stole a toothbrush.

Great video with a lot of info that I had no idea about! I saw this in the theater in 1986 - I was 14 and developed a huge crush on Matthew Broderick. It’s also responsible for making me become a huge Beatles fan, and they’re my favorite group to this day. Sadly I haven’t visited Chicago (despite growing up and living in the Midwest), but when I do go I want to check out some of these filming locations! Iconic film and still funny today, I think. Thanks for your video!!

Even if they could get the odometer on Cameron's father's car to roll back, would it have had time to cool off before his father got home? The car, being a 1961 model, with less than 100 produced, would mean that even in 1961 that type of car would be very hard to come by, as there would only be 2 available in each state. With the joyride the garage attendants took it on, would have used up quite a bit of gas, which might leave it practically out of gas when they got it back home. That would mean that even if they were able to get the odometer to roll back by running it in reverse, it might run out of gas altogether before they could get it back to where it was supposed to be. When Ferris introduced himself to the two sun bathers, with Save Ferris slogans up all over town, they might think, "For somebody who is very sick, he seems pretty healthy."

The Kids in the Hall is having a reunion series on Amazon soon, how about their story? I was way too young to understand it when it debuted and only knew it as the SNL where the guys put on dresses and makeup. That or The State, which had a LOT of familiar faces and would also be a way to get into how MTV did original series production. Seeing anything last more than a couple of seasons on there is rare as hell.

OMG - the original cut was 2 hours 45 mins?? Where, oh where can I dig this up?? It would be a top 10 movie again if they re-released the whole thing. I mean, directors sometimes have to make tough decisions around the length of a movie, leaving out some really great material. But the truth is, footage usually ends up on the cutting room floor for a reason. But I don't care! I'd still go to see it.
