Ghost jobs should be illegal. Very demoralizing for job seekers.
@danielmalinen6337
@danielmalinen6337 Ай бұрын
Could be worse. Hidden jobs. In Finland, many workplaces no longer advertise their vacancies and the unemployed jobseekers desperately try to find these hidden jobs by sending applications to all possible companies where they can get a job and therefore even the law requires that the unemployed must apply for a job at any job even if they do not have the qualifications for that job. It's not practical and consumes resources, but governments have no desire to change the system because it's "American" and it makes the unemployed apply for as many jobs as possible which seems more efficient. At one point, there was an attempt to force companies to announce their vacancies, but the companies refused because announcing vacancies takes time.

@@danielmalinen6337wow....the lack of any human decency or respect from c0rporati0ns and the elite is staggering. They don't even see us as human beings.....they actively hate us..... Yet...they want us to be dedicated to them fully, bring work home unpaid, demand loyalty, talk about passion for their business...when they won't even pay anyone a living wage or give the smallest **** about our lives or finances...then they're surprised why everyone job hops or doesn't want to work anymore

I wouldn't turn to the government for a solution to this. I'm tired of things being illegal. What good is the government? What if there was a website that scored employers? I'm pretty sure there's enough data out there to figure out which employers are posting ghost jobs. The job board itself has this information. They could prioritize the companies that are actually hiring in job searches. Then they could boast their application to higher ratio.

Tip for job seekers: beware of "recruiters" offering to find you a job. Their business model is to build up their repertoire of candidates using your resumes to make themselves attractive to companies who will hire them to do the work of filling job openings. But many of these recruiters are just incompetent hacks trying to build up their portfolio and really have no job lined up for you specifically. Even worse, they may try to stuff you in a role that is lucrative for them to fill but not great for you. You may want to work with one or two during your career, but just be aware they do NOT work for you and do not have your interests as their focus. As Vincent said, your best route is to find a contact inside the company you can use.

This ghosting trend has reached meteoric levels. I have a solid resume and interview really well, but what I have experienced lately is bizarre. I've had several interviews that exceeded the one hour time slot by like thirty + minutes because the hiring manager thought we had such a great connection. I'm referring to hiring managers appearing so laid back that they began talking about their hobbies, passions, and things we have in common. Next steps were followed up the "you'll definitely be hearing from me next week for a face to face meeting, etc." Next week comes around and all I get is complete radio silence! Not even an email response from the hiring manager or the recruiter. Everything goes to voice mail right away. I feel sorry for people in between jobs who need to pay bills. My situation is different because I have some serious bank with zero bills on my plate, so I can play this game for a long time.

The middle has been hallowed out. Once you hit a certain level of expertise (and therefore money), they get rid of you to hire a new 20-something who will work ridiculously long hours for cheap. A lot of small to medium firms (which is a huge bulk of employers) are basically the owner/a handful of senior management and a bunch of entry level people doing what used to be skilled, mid to senior level work. Also, living in the USA, globalization is against you. I used to do the digital nomad thing, so I could give competitive rates and get jobs from all over the world. I had to move back to the USA, and unfortunately, very few countries pay rates that will lead to even living a middle class/working class life, so you are forced to only pitch to USA, but the USA is outsourcing these jobs to people overseas.

1. It's sad that applying for jobs today is more about placating an HR minion rather than conveying skills and experience. The reality is that no one is going to read your resume. It will be scanned and software will compare key words to determine your fit. HR people know zero about your skills and abilities. 2. HR people are lazy. Many companies now require you go to their website and retype in your whole resume so that HR can skip the scanning step and get back to texting their friends. 3. Recent articles show that companies are putting out fake job ads (in order to look like they are growing to attract investors). 4. Most jobs today don't even cover the cost of rent and it's not getting better. I am seriously considering moving overseas and living off my investments. There are several countries where you can live like a king on $1200-1400 per month, taxes and crime are low, and people speak English. The Island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean is at the top of my list.

They were available for work during the survey reference week, except for temporary illness. The college for all movement rushed everyone to college and have unfortunately made a lot of overqualified workers with not enough positions. For fields in need, do you research. Trade is ALWAYS in need of people right now. Personally, I know my field (Hydrogeology) has so many empty positions that there’s kind of a crisis. If you’re interested in groundwater modeling and testing groundwater quality you may love my field! Entry level positions are starting at 70K but they go up fast and the empty positions have made promotions fast as well.

I know places that have sexual harassment or managers praying on women, but the employer trying to use it I even though they’re being sued they just pay with insurance or try to get lawyers to defend the employee. There are other people in the office who are bullies, other managers to gang up on people together and create an extremely toxic work environment, and then they themselves go and complain about the workplace and complain about the employers meanwhile, the other one who makes the workplace, intolerable and toxic.

There is an additional possibility about posted jobs that aren't really available. I interviewed for a university job as the result of a suggestion of a friend/colleague who was familiar with the kind of work the hiring person needed, and I was an obvious fit. When I was interviewed, I was told they would have to post the job to fulfill a statutory requirement that it was sufficiently advertised, although I was told they doubted they would find anyone else with my particular qualifications. It turned out that no one applied, and so I had the job. My point is that it is possible a person may essentially have been already selected for the job, and the posting is mostly a required formality.

Job market is bad, and as you move up the ladder, it keeps getting tougher. My advice is to take this time and think, am I only going to perform at a job where I need someone to keep telling me what needs to be done OR can I take that learning and apply to my own business and instead of seeking jobs, become able to provide jobs. I am not saying it's easy and it's definitely not for everyone. Yet, if you haven't thought about it, now is the time

I’ve been looking for a job for 4 months now, and I can’t seem to find a place that’s hiring. I almost got an interview at Taco Bell, only to be turned away due to the fact that I’m a minor. I have a work ethic and great communication and organization skills, but I’ve never gotten the chance to prove myself and it’s so frustrating!

After I got a bachelors degree I had to resort to applying to Taco Bell and didn’t even get a call back or interview. Anything at this point is better than nothing even if it’s below minimum wage under the table work. To be “employed” regardless of pay is to be in a certain class above those who are “unemployed”.

❤ this video. Finding a job is hard. If you apply for a job and there’re 100 applicants. My odds are 1%. I will get that job when I first apply. Then the company could interview five people and my odds are one out of five then there’s two finalists and now my are 50%. Somebody said once that when you apply for a job you are at the right place at the right time.

Might depend on the level of person you’re reaching out to and their involvement in the hiring process. In my VP role when hiring, a close friend could contact me and I’d tell them to use the link on our website like anyone else. Not that I don’t wish them well, but ultimately I’m looking for the best possible candidate, not the person I feel the most connected to. I also get a ton of unsolicited outreach for everything from recruiting to service partnerships to acquisition opportunities that I’ve just learned to tune out. A more junior person might be less jaded and more motivated to help out and get that referral bonus.

I've increasingly felt that the online job application process is extremely similar to online dating. Thousands of applications to get 10 replies? Perhaps they already have a preselected candidate? Sounds similar to how everyone is each other's backup sex partner. Referrals? Oh you mean common circle of friends/activities that boost chances of success in actually dating the target partner.

Imo, another problem that can apply to someone finding a job is if people are neurodivergent, disabled (but not enough to file for disability care/funding), and/or have mental health struggles, then they're way more likely to have trouble finding (and keeping) a job the most. It also doesn't help that some programs that are available (like most Department of Rehab centers) tend to be hands-off, underfunded, and/or too unequipped to help some people with finding a job. If finding a job is already hell for neurotypical and abled people, then it provides even more discouraging for a lot of us that need the extra help... 0_0

This is why when there is work you hustle 7 days, when it's slow you live off savings and do your tasks you needed done but didn't have the time. "FU" money is power. I learned the hardships of finding work when I was a teenager at 16 looking for part time summer work, it took about 7 places I applied to until I got work as a dishwsher. Now I'm a regional intermodal truck driver in So-cal.

I have 17 years of experience in engineering and digital recruitment, this is the WORST white-collar job market I have ever seen including multiple recessions. It started with Tech but there's been increases in layoffs trickling across all industries, even healthcare in certain fields. Companies are trying to trim the fat and hold onto cash until things stabilize. If you don't have an internal referral in this market, it's almost pointless to apply without an "IN". I'm saying this a highly experienced recruiter, having worked at fortune 500's and most of all the Big Tech firms. It's a dumpster fire in corporate America. It took me 5 months to find a good job and I completely changed industries.

I've had my fair share of positions, and sometimes just applying without any connections can work. My current role was a few states away, I had no previous specific industry experience, and applied through Indeed. Somehow, I landed it and been working there for almost 2 years. The starting pay was like $42k/year (19.50/hr), and I've gotten raises and bonuses since. However, it is a taxing position. I like the pay and sometimes the hours, don't get me wrong. The mentality of this business is that we must always do better than the previous quarter and year. The problem lies with the infinite growth mindset.
