McDonalds borrows money to buy back shares to increase their share price. In that particular case the share buybacks might not be worth the interest rate risk they open themselves up to by borrowing so much capital.

Demand isn't created by Person B seeing Person A buy shares, so therefore Person B demands it for themselves too...Demand is created by having less shares available in the marketplace for those that want to buy them. People pay more for what there is less of.

Thank you for the explanation sir :) I do have a small doubt though. If a share buyback reduces the no. of outstanding shares, what happens to those shares? I mean they should be computed some where else right, if not in the total no. of outstanding shares. Are there shares other than the no. of outstanding shares too? I may be missing something. Thanks in advance :)

When a Company buys back its own shares, you will see it within Treasury Stock. It reduces total equity on the balance sheet

Prateek Tripathi they might either discard the shares or it goes into the treasury stock. This treasury stock doesn’t count as outstanding shares

You forgot another reason: pump and dump.
@daytonasixty-eight13544 жыл бұрын
If the shareholders are active investors that isn't a bad thing lol. They can make money on the pump. If you only look at your investments once a year then ya you might have a problem. But if you are so lazy with your finances then you kind have it coming.
