so interesting how life works out. i started a gym then after years of preaching organic, homegrown foods and self reliance, i closed the gym and moved to Costa Rica to become a farmer. if you asked me at age 25, 20, 15 if i thought id be a fruit farmer in the tropics one day i wouldn't have even had a response. my mind was in a 'build a billion dollar brand mode' and then i began listening to the universe and followed that path. now, like Fred, i have found success, honor and happiness in a career that i never thought would be, but had to become in order for me to become who i was meant to be. he stood up to his bullies by standing on stage and having them pay him to sing as they sung along to his lyrics, how ironic. powerfully magical as well

The fact that he likens Limp Bizkit to Spinal Tap and Andy Kaufman really confirms what I've felt for a while - that band and it's music has always been a joke. Not 'joke' in a derogatory tone, but an actual parody. Not only did the jocks become fans, the whole music industry and the culture of the time (especially MTV) became part of the parody because of how big they got. Yes, I would say their music is technically and aesthetically a little cheesy but I have to say that I love what they have done and hope they're laughing all the way to the bank off of those MTV hits. Genius!

Ah, the old trope of getting even by getting rich and/or famous. I think every one of us who was bullied in school wished for the same thing at least a million times, and if Fred Durst did too, we know we weren't alone. But good on him for having done it. Wish i had- though I'm still not done trying, even at 57. Who knows? I might manage it yet, since I've got probably three more decades to accomplish that fete. Though it's safe to say I won't be doing it by becoming a rock star, as I once had also dreamed of, since I can't sing anymore, and never got beyond 4 years of piano lessons in grade school. But there's still plenty of ways to do it- they're just not as cool. By the way- to Bill or his "people"- I've been playing catch-up on episodes, since I only recently started watching this podcast, and it's been mostly awesome- even with a few episodes with people I was never a fan of, and still am not- I at least can see a more "real" side of entertainers or other "famous" folk than they normally allow the masses to see. It would be interesting though if Bill could find just an unknown, average, but intelligent and arguably interesting person to interview that he knew almost nothing about, to see how he could play against the unknown instead of people whom we all know something about- at least their bodies of work, if not their histories, personal lives, and careers as we do with all of his guests. Now THAT would be a lovely monkey wrench to throw into the machine, wouldn't it? Too bad famous people only want to talk with other famous people.

I know people like to clown on Limp Bizkit, and admittedly, a lot of their music is really corny… but if you were in high school or whatever around the time the Significant Other album dropped, you cannot deny that impact it had on music. Even to this day, that album had a few bangers that I like, such as: -Re-Arranged -No Sex -Don’t Go Off Wandering Those 3 songs are still great, in my opinion. Their music wouldn’t be clowned on and would be taken more seriously if they stuck more with the singing/harmonizing, and the screaming and heavy stuff, and cut out the rapping thing. I think the rapping is what made them a target. If only they stuck to singing and screaming, and went for a more mature sound, and more mature lyrics, I think they’d be sick. But yeah, people can laugh all they want, but they made millions upon millions of dollars.
