What people seem to have completely forgotten is that this drama actually started in Genshin's first anniversary, with people looking at Mihoyo's other game Honkai Impact 3rd and expecting Genshin to get free 5 stars just like Impact does.

The free 5 star just completely invalidates the "Genshin has more exploration so you get more pulls" argument. It's insane how star rail has better endgame than genshin but it is also more casual player friendly than genshin.

That argument was just flat out wrong even before this. If my memory serves me right, GI had an average of 58.5 pulls per patch from something like 1.0-2.8, whereas HSR had 75.2 from 1.1-1.5, excluding the 1.0 where they had 122 pulls. All pulls are f2p and for limited banners only. But even if this was not the case, i'd much rather do SimUni 2x per week than explore Genshin map. Additionally, no way you're getting an average of 225 primos per week from exploration in GI lol in short, HSR gives you more pulls for less time invested and I enjoy that a lot! Additionally, MoC has been much more enjoyable than Abyss has been in years, and with the added auto-clear options it will be even better. AND on top of that we're getting _another_ engame mode in HSR.

If they put the same effort of doing the cutscenes, map designing, character playstyle, marketing, promotions and more content to the game equal to their treatment and appreciation to the playerbase, my god I believe more people will spend on the game. OH would you look at that free 5 star for 300 pulls that you get just by playing the game! Light come and weapon banners are also similar right? Except in light come banners YOU DON'T NEED TO FUCKING RNG IT FOR A REQUIRED WEAPON. Relics are also like that. In HSR you can just straight up make them in Synthesis machine WOW. They literally made the same situations like the Apple company with iPhone where they made iPhone 1 while in reality has technology to make iPhone 5 already with much less flaws. Dr. Ratio light cone- Increases the wearer's CRIT DMG by 20%. For every debuff on the enemy target, the wearer's CRIT DMG dealt against this target increases by 8%, stacking up to 3 times. Star Rail isn't even a year old, and we got a free 5* in Dr. Ratio plus the free standard 5* selector after 300 pulls on the standard banner. This is why I love Star Rail and why I've gone minimum effort on Genshin. Genshin has only just barely done enough to prevent me from getting totally burnt out on it.

The sad thing about Genshin is... if they didn't have the absolutely miserable artifact system... they could have better endgame combat content without so much "anxiety" because then everyone could actually get a full roster of well-built characters. Every new character that's released and every new artifact domain that's released adds a new layer of unbearable grinding to the game unless you're unbelievably lucky. 5 artifacts per character, and if their ideal artifact set is a new one, then you won't have any existing pieces and have to start from 0... At least Star Rail has auto battle and a system to craft specific relic pieces to make the grind bearable... even if I still hate it on principle.

Now that I think of it, we have various End Game content in HSR and I believe it will have even more in the future. So I suppose having 1 Free 5-Star Limited to help (new players) is a good incentive for HOYO and also a way to retain or keep that said new player since the free character will most likely be of great help in progressing the game.

Thing is.. it's NOT about whether Dr. Ratio is good or bad, it's about their generosity for giving us the UPCOMING 5-star limited character to all Honkai Star Rail players. By doing so, HSR might hit an all-time low on revenue, yet they still do that. We're talking about millions of dollars, but HSR never short of content. In perspective, Genshin Impact is the highest grossing gacha game to date, for the past three years. Yet, they never give players a 5-star limited characters. So it's pretty clear, that the development of both has different interests and approach. By the end of the day, HSR team is pretty much following Honkai Impact 3rd step. Meanwhile Genshin team is a young team that actually not having any experience, they don't know what to do to please their community. I believe they don't even has long-term grand plan when it hits popularity the first time. HSR team make sure it is the game that everyone can enjoy and community based game.

Its probably a marketing tactic to get a bunch of new players who want the free 5* as well as incentivise people to go all the way and get the OP limited lightcone and e1 for dr ratio. Plus we will get ruan mei, kafka, and blade simps pulling for them and their light cones as well. Imo the lowest sales numbers hsr will have was 1.5 with the terrible huo huo banner and argenti banner (erudition 5*)

I think the issue is here is the Crux of logic a lot of star rail and even genshin players use, maybe try not to think from a sales perspective, honestly, I've played gacha games since 2016 and ever since 1.4 of genshin people have been, O B S E S S E D, and I do mean obsessed with sales, ratio would have made a ton of money sure, but, this company makes billions, they could give the next 3 units out in star rail and genshin and still make a ton of money from their game.

@@Deaah21 Not really. Genshin = 4x daily mission (always doing the same thing) and abyss once in 14 days... HSR daily missions (always doing the same thing, but it is much clear and faster to do), MoC (basically abyss, once in 14 days too), simulated universe (once in 7 days), Swarm (different kind of thing from abyss with 5 tiers of difficulty), every patch you get special event, which is usually pretty damn long or even two events (in genshin you usually get 3-4 small events during one patch, which takes like max 30 minutes to finish completely) and now, there are gonna be + 2 new added things into HSR ( basically one new abyss and one new universe with different kind of style and creativity)... You cannot say, that this both equals at all.

The most serious of them likely understood what's the deal was , and left a long time ago , especially people that wanted more co-op . From a business standpoint, I think they're using the same business tactics as Apple when it comes to GI at the moment. So in a way, GI is the "premium" game and the others are just using the normal gacha business tactics that's why they don't really care if they're losing money on GI. At the end of the day, they're using GI as a simulation ground for their new games (because it's so vast as an open world anime game). I think this is also why they create these different mini games and they check which one works and which doesn't in every event. In any case, they're still making millions per patch in each of the games they make. So, at this point, they won't really care as much.

I had been playing HSR since launch. When patch 1.5 hit, I decided to take a break from the game. Yes I put some money in, not a whale nor a dolphin by any means, just the monthly card, the battle pass and probly 200$ on top of the rest. In comparison to my previous gachas where in a week I would've spent that amount, I felt no guilt or regrets on taking a break. I know when I come back, I'm gonna have a lot of blaze power stored up, I'll be refreshed and will continue to enjoy the content as I have been. 1.5 might not have been a good patch for Hoyo, but for me at least, it was a good one to take a break on.

I still play Genshin, but I'm just so sad that it will never have the same amount/type of content that Star Rail has. I accepted the reality as well - it doesn't need to do any updates for hardcores to get a lot of money out of it. I'm super happy that Star Rail actually respects the player's needs and tries to make them come true, guy really is on point why they are doing this. I think one of the big reasons is combat design. Genshin is all about elemental application. New characters drop and the narrative is almost always "Will the be a better x applicator than x". Give them a strong 5* to fill that slot and they are less likely to pull on similar characters. The turn based nature of Star Rail has allowed for more mechanical synergies. Giving a free ratio makes it MORE likely that someone will want to pull on a Topaz re-run or any future characters with Debuff or follow up attack synergies.

I’m a Genshin fan that plays both star rail and Genshin. And even I can agree that star rail giving out a free limited 5 star is actually super huge especially for a game like star rail cuz of the way the game works. Like, if they do continue to do this, it would actually fix one of the biggest problems I had with the game, and I don’t even think actual star rail fans understand the magnitude of what giving away a free limited 5 star implies. Edit: in response to the replies I guess can elaborate on what I meant. Yea, now that I think about it, I probably could’ve worded my initial comment a bit better but oh well. Basically one of the bigger problems in Star rail is that your strongly incentivized to roll for new characters (especially limited ones) even though u don’t need too because they enhance the gameplay experience quite significantly. To elaborate further, this is probably just my opinion, but Star rail’s baseline gameplay/combat is very one dimensional and doesn’t have very much depth (at least compared to Genshin). And thus, because it doesn’t have very much depth, the only way to add depth to that gameplay is to pull for more characters because they just change the gameplay experience that much. To elaborate even further, let’s compare 2 destruction main dps that are in the game. Jing Liu, and Dhil. Both are main dps of the destruction path yet, they play extremely differently than each other. Bronya and Tingyun? Both harmony characters used in hypercarry comps, yet they both play very differently with their own upsides and downsides. What I’m trying to say is that no 2 units in Star rail are the same. And thus, this is why hoyo giving away Dr Ratio for free is pretty big for the communities general gameplay experience, and is good for both the game itself and the consumers. This just my opinion tho, from my personal experience of being a day 1 f2p player. Because I’m f2p, I had pretty limited amount of units I could pull for and thus I would only pull and build units that are optimal for my account. And because I had limited characters to play , I ended up getting bored pretty fast, much faster than I expected. In a week after finishing Blades build I got pretty bored of playing him, same with Jing Liu. In Genshin, this wasn’t the case, I’ve been playing the same Wanderer hypercarry team for 3 months in both overworld and abyss and I’m still having alotta fun playing it. So what I’m trying to say from this is that hsr has quite a lot to gain from giving away a free limited 5 star because of the way the game works, at least a lot more to gain compared to Genshin. Like, hsr giving away a free Dr Ratio does alot more compared to if Genshin gave away a free Navia. Of course, im not saying Genshin *shouldn’t* be giving away free limited 5 stars, they still stand to gain a decent amount from giving away a free 5 star, but that 5 star needs to be very good at least meta wise, otherwise it’ll just end up benched in everyone’s accounts (Aloy kekw). Comparatively, I can see everyone building and using Dr Ratio in the near future, even if he’s doomed since he’s a hunt character getting released in an aoe meta. Of course, this just from my personal experience of playing and being f2p in both games.

To be honest, most of gacha players pull for character designs. Giving away Ratio means nothing if they can design better characters in future (which I think they do from the sneak peek of the Penacony's casts). People who will utilize a single free 5* to the maximum are probably low spender or f2p, because whales will definitely E6S5 hence that money loss from a copy of 5* isn't even significant compared to the publicity they get.

Hello from Greece :) being a relatively new NIKKE player I really wanted to share my thoughts. NIKKE recently had their anniversary and they actually gave a free SSR character called snow White and also they gave 3 copies of her for free too. I've never seen any other gatcha game do this. And in general they gave so many rewards and the anniversary stream was so fun and entertaining to watch.. I truly feel very sad for Genshin because I truly still love it and play it and I love the character design and the music sooo soo much.. But not giving a free 5 star for an anniversary is such a bad thing. I hope Hoyoverse will listen to the players for once.. Because it paints such a bad picture when a gaming company doesn't show interest for their player's needs . The main problem is not because they dont want better content because even casual honkai players can appreciate good endgame and updates, its because a majority of those casuals only play genshin or its their first game that they play a lot and so they dont know any better. Theyve never played anything better and so theyre easily manipulated and dont ask for better and now theyre stuck in this loop of only waifus and husbandos or they dont care enough and dont know enough to voice for something better. Which means the only loud voices are twitter AI's. And this is why Genshin can never rise above itself.

I love Genshin, and it does suck their other games get special treatment over it. Except half the community will just whine and cry and send death threats rather than giving constructive criticism. Hoyo clearly could let Genshin dominate the gacha market if they wanted to, and they just don't because Genshin is the casual game. The best part is because Hoyoverse won't let that happen they are going to get curb-stomped when real competition finally comes out at long last. Genshin makes lots of money and everyone wants a slice of that sweet Genshin pie. Heavy hitters like Wuthering Waves, Project Mugen, and Blue Protocol in 2024 are going make Genshin sweat hard. I fully expect HSR to fall off a cliff at some point because its powercreep on top of more powercreep since every DPS is better than the next one ToF style. I used to love Genshin and I spent far too much money on it because of Eula. All I think Honkai: Star Rail will encourage Genshin Impact to do is add some QoL changes. I was personally in the same boat. When I found out hsr would be turn based i really didn't think i'd enjoy it let alone download it. To my surprise I actually find it fun. I think it's because hsr actually makes me think compared to genshin. In genshin I can go unga bunga all I want and still do something. Hsr actually makes me think of how to manage sp and turns which makes me use my single brain cell. If you haven't tried it out then try to give hsr a shot. Who knows maybe you'll go complete 180 like i did. The rng is still ass tho but hey it's hoyo game so is that really anything new 😂

I think its more that the Honkai team cares more about customer satisfaction than the genshin team than that they have to put out updates. Remember the Pandemic is over, and while they may have had that pandemic launch success with Genshin, All their games would be on the same playing field, now. For each, they are going to have their whales now that covid is over. Should be clear from how well Starrail has been doing patch to patch, and is likely going to blow up again in 2.0.

See case in point the Genshin team does know they cant continue to rest on their laurels: 4.3 finally improved artifact/character/weapon enhamcement and ascension to not have that horible popup and have auto-add. Just. Like. Star Rail. If they truely thought they could continue to let the games qol stagnate to oblivion they wouldnt have bothered. They do, however, roll these out too slowly. HSR rolls out tons of QoL each patch, and this is the first Genshin QoL imo thats been worth a damn. And this is on another thing thats mentioned in the video, and thats genshin is made more for casuals. Real talk, HSR is far more casual friendly than genshin because of how streamlined the systems are. Casual friendly means not making you run to a physical crafting bench to combine materials, not having to run to a physical npc to finish your dailies, reset and fight assension mat bosses at your own pace and not have to wait for respawn. This is what makes HSR easier to be casual with, making it a more casual game than genshin is claimed to be. Now genshin needs to focus on those things, too. As wellas the resin cap, recharge, and lack of overflow protection.

I haven't touched Spiral Abyss in a long time, but then I don't have limited character Cons, and I don't even grind artifacts much. I log in just to do my dailies so I'll have enough primos for the next Archon. And occasionally I play the main story. That's about it. I regularly do (Superstring Dimension) Abyss, Memorial Arena, and Elysian Realm, as well as the Co-op stages in _HI3_ . And I try to prefarm materials for upcoming characters while I do Simulated Universe and MoC in _HSR_ if I can.

Another thing I feel helps most mihoyo games is the fact that all the servers are at the same point. In most gacha games some servers(usually cn) are ahead of global. So you know what not to spend on and that causes gaps in revenue.

Genshin does not care because the players are mentally challenged. I gave up on the game ever since i saw the comunity responce with the 1st anniversary. How slow do peple have to be to understand that if they want change they have to stop giving Hoyo money. Humanity needs a reset, and start over.

_HI3_ probably has the second smallest playerbase out of Mihoyo's games, with only _GGZ_ unfortunately being smaller, considering only two servers are still open, and it's also their most generous game, with the least amount of RNG. That's nuts to consider. But it also makes sense because most people skip it for the lack of an EN dub. And I'm not even factoring in the artbooks, because those have only been rewarded in the last two years, whereas _HI3_ is 6 years old.

The most delusional thing I’ve seen is about GI lifers calling HSR a beta test for QoL when they finally started adding features in Genshin. Get real. More like HSR team had enough of Genshin team’s lazy ass and showed them up so they can get off their high horse and lazy ass and actually make updates to the game. All it shows me is GI would not have added those QoL if HSR wasn’t making them look bad. I won’t be surprised if there’s a rivalry between the different teams.

This is on top of the fact that after 4 years they have yet to change the splash of Dvalin to anything else. And honestly, one of the only QOL changes I would like to see is a way to see what you've done as max damage with each character. Goddess of Victory Nikke's story is rather interesting. I haven't played much HSR because I don't enjoy the combat, but It's wild to imagine just how good Genshin would be if they actually treated the game as well as they treat HSR. The game has so much potential, and at this point I can only hope people criticize hoyo enough to convince them to change, or hope that I randomly start enjoying HSR combat again.

Hey King. I play Nikke. One good pierce of advice for newer players I have is to not rush the progress. It’s a really good game and the story is good. I will also say that if you’re going to be F2P, then be prepared to wait for weeks/months to level up your characters past 200 (I’ve been playing Nikke since September of this year and while the grind can be annoying at times, it’s all worth it. I recommend looking up beginner guides that were made in the past couple of months since the game has changed a lot these past several months, especially during the anniversary. The game will literally hand you so much stuff to help you progress. It is a very F2P friendly game and the Gacha rates are very generous.

⁠​⁠@@normal2410you’re welcome! Glad I can help. There are a lot of really good Nikke content creators that I recommend you watch for detailed info on characters. The META for Nikke is actually good considering that you will eventually end up getting many/most of the meta characters. Also, if you are gonna spend in Nikke, there is the 30-day daily Gem pack, which is like 5 bucks if I remember correctly. The anniversary did end unfortunately, but you happen to pull Red Hood (the anniversary character) then you will speed through content like crazy lol. Over all, the game is amazing, the lore is absolutely amazing (and since you missed out on side quests and events, you will be able to view them in the game). Have fun, and enjoy the waifus.

@@Aemni1 but that'll never happen. Because even if everyone trashes genshin devs, two things which they do an excellent job of is character design and gameplay and the world design. It is very Hard to skip a character because many people already experienced the hardship of skipping kazuha and not getting his rerun for a year, so no one can think of skipping a character they like unless it's absolutely necessary(like I skipped wrio for furina and navia). And almost all the characters they release are very likeable. You're right on voicing our opinions on things they are doing wrong. I do that all the time. But us not spending for the characters is us not appreciating the things they do amazingly well. Instead like the above person told, we should just keep giving our opinions on qol in such a way that even Chinese players feel the same way. And actually speaking, genshin have shown huge improvements since 4.0 in every aspect of the game which is a small W. We are also getting many qol updates in 4.3. If they keep doing this from now onwards and start addressing actual issues of the game, I won't have any reason to complain.

I have a friend who still plays Genshin. He almost has if not all limited character and weapon in genshin. I asked him one time to play his account. I was so surprised and so disappointed to find out that his characters are f**cking useless. Underbuilt under leveled. It can't even 3star the abyss floor 11. This proves that most casual players are just here to flex their pulled character. And Genshin knows them VERY WELL much so they abused and milked them.
