It was, is and should be like that. Only in India education is given unnecessarily higher weightage. Students from top universities tend to get higher salary mostly because students generally are hardworking inculcated in them.

If ranking don't matter then why do you call non-Ivy league schools "mediocre"? Ivy league does help but after a few years the pay get more equal. As you say. It's not so much the school but your major. A engineer form a "mediocre" school will make way more money than an Anthropology major from Harvard College...

Is Illinois Institute of Technology really worth it for Masters in Information Technology and Management? I got 10k$ scholarship and the total tution fee can be 38 Lakhs including health insurance. not really, we are comparing salaries to salaries in all the unis, so its an apples to apples comparison and differences cancel out
