I honestly do not think God is depicted as male because we earthly males need a Godly male figure. God is not described as male because of us. He is male because of himself, he is the beginning of everything also of this. Adam was the head of the wive, he rules over her. God rules over and created mankind, including the male. As the women was created out of the man, God created the human being from reasons out of himself. I understand that a womanly God would not be logical, but I think the direction of the theoratical explanation of God being a He is wrong in this video. It would be better to state: God created a man in a way that the man has a need for the figure of who God is, a fatherly figure, his Ruler and Caretaker amongst others. From our earthtly intersocial male-female intersocial relations we can better understand the position of God to humans. it is only possible to know the information about God that He reveals to us Himself through scripture. Of course, God is Spirit (John 4:24), so is biologically neither male nor female, and He does not have a sexual nature. The simple answer is that God is described in male terms because that best describes how God relates to His creation; God has revealed Himself to humanity in male terms; and God became incarnate as a man, not a woman. Jesus prayed to Him as Father and taught His disciples to do the same (Matt 6:9). The Second Person of the Trinity, Jesus Christ, became incarnate as a man, not a woman, and Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit with the pronoun ‘He’ (John 14:16-17). These are not similes or metaphors, but teaching regarding the very nature of God and how He relates to His creation, and how the members of the Godhead relate to each other. God is male in every sense except for the biological. However, ever since the conception of Christ, God is also biologically male. This video isn't a good explanation.

Jacob Griffin I love the #2 statement and when I heard it in the video it really made a lot of sense. One could surely argue, ‘this is God we’re talking about. Why not create a pronoun specifically for God in order to avoid confusion?’ I can have sympathy for the already large hurdles language put on people of those much earlier times had. So I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt not to crate a new pronoun. How about today though? Is there a reason why we don’t create a new pronoun for God? Maybe it should be Ze? I’m not a huge fan of the radical left agenda getting wrapped up in pronouns but maybe this is a moment we can take and grow from their work? Unless it really is that imperative for psychological development that God be seen as a male so other males can associate with the characteristic traits of God? As a psychologist/neuroscientist, I’m not fully convinced that’s the best method for preventing violence. The emergence of Self through development of executive attention has greatly increased non-violent methods for conflict resolution when taught in children ages 4-6 for example (Rueda, Posner, & Rothbart, 2005). So maybe we can help to dismantle a little bit of the strife between sexes in religion now that we have access to a wide variety of additional means to develop anger/violence management?

To me, it seems like a leap in logic to relate the harmful effects of the absence of fathers to the benefits of having a male God. A father is present for the children and actively taking a role to shape them, while God is a metaphysical, non-present being. Yes, boys may benefit more from having a male God, but wouldn't girls benefit more from having a female God? I would argue that a genderless God is the best option here, and I disagree with the point that an "it" is unrelatable or unlovable. It's very possible that if God had been genderless all this time, millions of people would still be relating and loving it. In fact, I believe that if the original Hebrew had a genderless pronoun and applied it to God, everyone today would find it natural and there would be nothing to be argued about.

SINCE THE TRIUNE GOD IS THREE PERSONS, ONE GOD ENTITY, it would have been confusing to have Jesus a female, or God the Father a female. Fathers and sons can be "beloved" to each other, and since they are of the same triune God, the same gender makes sense. The Holy Spirit is also a He, to avoid confusion, otherwise we have a weird sort of love triangle. We see in Matthew 23:37 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing." that Jesus (God) shows some female traits like compassion, which are shown in other parts of Scripture, which helps illustrate God being not just exemplifying a solely male nature. For instance, even though it is clear in Scripture that God is the source of all wisdom, we can see like in Proverbs 8 wisdom being depicted as a female, to make an illustrative point.

Mothers are inseminated from the outside; they nurture the baby inside their bodies (and cannot leave them, modern mass-murdering of in-utero children aside). What I remember reading is that essentially, Jewish people saw God as Reality. Reality can seem beautiful, peaceful, and perfectly suited to an individual’s satisfaction one day, and be hell on Earth the next. For them, God decided these things, and frankly it just wasn’t productive or helpful to curse God for His actions, because it’s the same as cursing reality. If you stub your toe on a rock, it’s futile and kind of pathetic to get angry at the rock. What are you going to do, smash every rock you find? You’ll never get them all. You’ll die of thirst in the desert hunting down every last rock. You’ll die of exhaustion digging them up and breaking them. Instead of trying to impose your will on God, on Reality, impose your will on your own mind and embrace God, embrace Reality. Learn to love God and learn to love Reality. I will make the distinction in the following: if someone is gambling money, you can either (love-1) them and let them gamble and face the horrific consequences of their bahavior if they keep it up and spent all their money. So the conclusion would be that simply affirming someone does not equate love, just approval. Loving someone is being honest with them and meaning them well, aka telling them that they are heading away from reality into illusion and that doing so will have catastrophic consequences. People that do not enforce someone's delusion truely loves them and means them well.

Hate to break this to you Prager U but the Bible also depicted God as a she. It is true that God is depicted as a father but there are also times God is depicted as a mother. In Matthew 23:37 and Luke 13:34 God is seen as a mother hen protecting her brood under her wings. In Isaiah 42:14 God is depicted as a crying woman in labor. In Hosea 13:8 God is depicted as an angry mother bear robbed of her cubs. In Isaiah 49:15 It talks about God not forgetting about you like how a mother doesn't forget her child from the womb. In Psalms 123:2-3 While it does describe that men can look to God like a male slave looks to his master it also describes how like a female slave looks to her mistress women can look up to God. In Luke 15:8-10 the parable depicts God as a woman looking for her lost coin and when the woman finds her lost coin she rejoices over it. While it is true that throughout the Bible God is more commonly depicted as a He it is true that God is also depicted as a She. And like a mother God tenderly cares for each and every single one of us. God can be a powerful role model for men as well as women. Just like when God is depicted as a man He is shown as an example of what a strong leader is. Your argument fell flat as soon as you said "God is not beyond..." God is beyond ALL because he is OUTSIDE this reality and not a part of it. Dualism is strictly a principle of this reality and not His. God created dualism! If you built a chair, or a car or a house you could not be a part of any of them. They would exist OUTSIDE OF YOU. Such is the creation. You could however manipulate all three of those "creations", you could even destroy them. Your prerogative as their creator.

@@solinvictus6562 The point is about reconciling, not betterment. This world is perishing, or so says the Bible. God's main concern is saving those whom he will out of it, not making it better. This is a disposable world, and will be done away with when all has been said and done.

@@solinvictus6562 God isn't really a being of pure love in the old testament. He kills, just, so many people, and for really arbitrary reasons. He outright tried to kill Moses at one point. He failed, cause that's apparently a thing omnipotent beings do sometimes, but he made a real go of it. He also killed thousands of his followers for praying to something besides himself.

Depends on the Testament that you are reading. 1) In the OT, (Exodus 19 or thereabouts) the Israelites committed to "doing all that God commanded" which required limiting relationships with other than Jews. And they had to be disciplined repeatedly for failing to do so - so much so that God established the sacerdotal system that enabled bloodshedding that would cover their sins and enable the nation's prosperity to recover from privation at "God's hand". The major rewards for good conduct in the OT were high levels of reproductive success and peaceful relations with neighbors. "Salvation" in the OT was usually in the form of deliverance from hostilities of neighboring kingdoms. 2) IN CONTRAST to the OT, the NT has such rules as intellectual honesty and high morality as the personal goal to be met - e.g. such as in the beautitudes by the Lord Jesus. Much more rigorous than in the OT. THEN, after Christ's perfect fulfillment of the Law, followed by His death and resurrection, the meaning of salvation morphed into a redemption by God of individuals who would confess their sin and believe on Jesus as God's perfect atonement for their sins. Salvation, then enabled one to be at peace with God - for all eternity - thru the work of God in Christ alone - without meritorious contribution by the repentant. Other human benefits would accrue but without the limited timespan of an earthly kingdom and king, but forever! So there is an evolution in Scripture not yet appreciated by most Israelites. The CURRENT "GOSPEL" provides salvation by the auspices of the Jews but largely leaves them unaffected while the rest of the world is privileged by God to experience His gracious, eternal salvation.

No, this is one point where I may have to disagree. Our Heavenly Father is a male, as gender is central to identity. It is clear that God created us in his image. Therefore we can conclude that God would have to have a wife, which is often not spoken of as she is cherished and held sacred by our Father. God's plan is dependent on gender identity and its 2 roles in starting a family. God could not be perfect or be God without having an eternal and equal companion, that being our Heavenly Mother. I almost always agree with Prager University values but God is strictly male with power shared equally with our Mother in Heaven.
