this is too true, this is why I'm not using Splattershot Pro & Jet Squecher as my shooter main (even tho they are good main) because of how sucks their subs is. Having a good sub opens up many potential and viable method to deal with ur opponents. I can't perform well when I dun have a bomb (suction, splat for etc) at my disposal.

@@YipeekayHarasho if you arent playing casually, not being able to preform well without a bomb seems to be a weakness you should work on, not encourage. theres tons of good non-bomb subs that you should learn to work with in case you need to fill that spot on your team, like splashwall for example.

Power picked Goo Tuber twice yesterday and he actually used the main weapon like a charger, considering that he is a legitimate charger player. And in Area Cup last week there were 2 Goo Tuber players on a team that got first(didn't bring it in finals though). But for now its biggest niche is as a missile spammer, but I think the main weapon has so much untapped potential

I think Goo Tuber is a great 'teaching' weapon, honestly. The fact that it can one-shot without a full charge - being the only charger with this trait - has changed the way I play the game. Suddenly, I'm going for safer partial charge tap-shots instead of waiting for the long charge time when I'm in close-quarters. And if I miss the kill because I didn't charge for long enough, I can torpedo combo to finish them off. It's super versatile, even if it's not the best option, and using it a bit definitely expands your brain a bit.

I've followed Chara for a while now. Immensely based reasoning. Interesting to note, thanks to squid rolling, goo tuber is probably one of the better "assassin" chargers, by using that stored charge to roll and get the kill, though Squiffer is probably still much better in that regard.

You'd have to have god-like aim to land a hit mid squidroll in an actual match though. That's always been the biggest issue with the gootuber honestly, the fact that moving around a lot throws off your aim. It's already hard enough hitting an evasive target, nailing someone while you're also swimming or squid rolling just becomes that much harder. but then if you don't take advantage of that you're just playing a worse splat charger.

I love using chargers and I did use Goo Tuber in Splatoon 2. I was excited about Goo Tuber when Splatoon 3 came out because my reasoning was because Goo Tuber has such a long charge hold time, it allows you to use Squid Rolls while still maintaining a charge reliably. And then I found out how easily missile spam was and didn’t find the weapon as fun anymore.

Yeah, the kit makes it insane in turf wars too. Even outside of its use to farm special, Torpedo itself synergises insanely well with both other parts of the kit. Since it locks onto targets, it can make it easier to land the Tuber's partial charged shots. It also flushes targets out better than Reeflux is able to, and the Torpedos can self-flank when you fire missiles.

Another thing about the tap shots of goo, it's really good. It inks really well and barely outrages n zap so using it as a semi auto charger isn't even a bad playstyle.

Goo Tuber is basically a better Squiffer in every way. If you're currently playing Squiffer, you may as well be playing Goo Tuber instead, since the Goo Tuber's charge time to OHKO is pretty much the exact same as the Squiffer, and the Goo Tuber also easily has the best fully uncharged shots (for a charger) in the game, so even the uncharged shots can be surprisingly effective in a close-quarters pinch, and can also be used to paint some ground quickly.

This is coming from someone who isn't super focused on ranked play, but honestly the Goo Tuber is so much fun; I started using it heavily the day I unlocked it on splatoon 2. I'm a little disappointed that their reason for using it is kinda "meh" but its alright, sometimes that's just how things are. I play it because its a fun challenge trying to pop people with it, and its super satisfying when you manage to get a lot of splats. They might not use it for the same reason that I main it, but this was interesting to see! Thanks for sharing this! I had no idea it was being used, I don't often watch those tournaments.

I've played Splatoon 2 since it was released and only recently learned what makes goo tuber not as bad as I thought. I knew about the longer charge hold and partial hold, but didn't know about its more consistent range or ability to oneshot without a full charge until yesterday. Haven't watched the video yet but I bet combined with the chip damage, displacement, and general annoyance of torpedo and missiles, it's probably great in this game

I had one of those kit moments when I got splat 3. I haven't played for a few years, so I double checked what weapons I used to main and then spent my Sheldon licenses on them. Only to find that they didn't feel nearly as satisfying. I had been playing splatter shot pro and dualies squelchers, both weapons that come with point sensor. And unfortunately, I'm not a fan of any of the weapons that come with point sensor in splat3... My buddy is shaping up to be a nautilus main though so I might be covered.

i friended someone just because they picked gootuber in turf war and was really good with it and i like to play with people who use underlooked weapons. unfortunately we lost those matches so my friend request was ignored, either thought i was being sarcastic or was a bad :( i kinda wanna try it out for myself, especially if it can do work with just tap shots, sub, and missles since i can't hit for beans with chargers normally. i noticed it's taps were strangely effective in salmon run.

Yeah sub and special are really keen. Like I'm not really a competitive player, just more casual, but I really like being an agressive support, y'know helping team mates while also pushing forward and going for kills. For that, the N-zap 85 is without a doubt my favorite, as the fire rate and range on it are really perfect for my style, the suction bombs allow me to do attacks differently and at greater range, as well as in stratetic locations, and of course the Tacticooler buffs are great to help both me and my teammates kick some tentacle. Its also why I pick the N zap over something like the Dapples, since their Squid Beacon, while cool, leaves me with only one way of being offensive, that being the dapples short range. Sure they can dodgeroll in and out of situations in a flash but I still also like to play at a midrange.

I was a goo tuber main since Splatoon 2! I love the new kit in splatoon 3 hoping they bring back inkjet with the goo tuber and a better sub. I never considered it a “weak” charger but more of an advantage (with my gameplay at least). Honestly glad pros are finally considering it good/useful!

I recently played the Goo Tuber, and while I wouldn't disagree that spamming Tenta Missiles is a big reason why it's good, I would also say that getting half shots with Torpedo is another big reason. The main weapon doesn't require a full charge shot to kill, and that combined with Torpedo getting some damage means you can build some damage with Torpedo, have them move, and then snipe them while they are moving with a half shot. Oh, and if you are forced to move because of another special, the ability to hold your charge much longer than other charges gives you leniency in your shots.

I love Goo Tuber now. Every part of it. Except Missiles. I loved Torpedo and the main weapon, but Missiles turned me off after a bit of playing. The Torpedo+tap combo is actually so good for close up scenarios that allow for an instant kill if the setup is done correctly.

To be fair, several other comp players are rating Goo Tuber much higher. Two tracking/displacement sources, the option to kill like a charger (a much more valuable tool in making the skirmishing/slaying decision than Kunder's paper shield), and the GT's Splat 3 buffs all make it highly underrated. The longer and partial charge-storing means you can roll and surge and still be able to act out of it, a mobility choice that arguably rivals the typical squiffer playstyle of hopping in place in terms of advantaging the charger player.

Finally goo has time to shine I’ve been maining that since forever and it’s not the misiles as everyone thinks. The goo in itself does really good damage even not on full charge and kills with a little over half charge. I can literally write a full paragraph on why gootuber is underrated!

Squiffer is just better in almost every way if you take away the kits. I absolutely love the goo tuber, but the ink storing isn’t actually that strong compared to the squiffer’s ability to shoot in the air. And the quickest one shot kill with the gootuber is still slower than the squiffer

I'm just happy that goo tuber isn't just a joke at this point. But with that being said I should take notes: torpedo is good for poking the player and against sharking/aggro players. Missles help with more passive play styles. Weapon kits help weapons tremendously. Is there anything I missed?
