Hi Dr. Licona, I found your book 'Jesus Contradicted' very useful. I thank God for that. I'm eagerly waiting for your book on the reliability of the New Testament. Could you kindly provide some updates? Love from India

The channel plug made me chuckle lol (I've already sub'd). Thanks for the clarity on this important issue Dr. Licona. Wooden literalism is so toxic to people's faith, and it needs to be addressed front and center. Praying for you.

One the first issue, it's reasonable to assume Mark and Mathew are simply telling us the disciples often argued on who was Jesus favourite. At one point JESUS almost caught them (Mark). They realized it's a useless to argue and decided to ask JESUS to settle the qualms (Matthew)

Why can't Mark and Matthew be recording two different events about who is the greatest? It was probably an issue on several occassions.

Sure, they could be different events. But then you would have to explain why the Gospel authors repeatedly reference events that have significant similarities, and yet small, minor differences, too. This issue happens on more than several occassions in the Gospels. Either way, not an issue that necessarily impacts inerrancy.

Mark 6:8 - μηδὲν αἴρωσιν εἰς ὁδὸν εἰ μὴ ῥάβδον μόνον - "They should take nothing in the journey except a staff alone." IOW, take one. Matthew 10:10 - μηδὲ δύο χιτῶνας μηδὲ ὑποδήματα μηδὲ ῥάβδον - "Neither TWO coats nor shoes nor staves." IOW, don't take EXTRA. NOT a contradiction at all, nor a changing of facts.

You really do make it easy for Muslims to justifiably criticize us. Do you not see that?

Interlude is silly.

Has Licona been hanging around with Errorman? No, most of us do not engage in such fact-changing in our ordinary lives and justify it as "minor" changes. If I caught one of my friends doing this he would be called out. Another word for fact-changing is lying. There are better explanations. I suggest Gleason Archer's general approach to these kinds of questions.

If you project your modern western relationship, styles and expectations about narratives onto ancient texts, it's not only the New Testament that will baffle you.

This is a completely reasonable explanation when we say this is what happens when multiple men write a book. However, if we are talking about an inerrant work by the Creator of the universe, this explanation falls short.

It’s incredible to me how many grown ups are still mired in this obvious bullshit.

Without God everything is bullshit. Go tell yourself a story about how it's not, but it is. You go 70 or 80 years existing as a biomechanical lump with no free will and then disintegrate in the ground. Life and its experiences (aka chemical processes) mean jack shit without the transcendent. So yeah I'll be mired

@@kapafrank2407I respectfully disagree - judging from the comments I've received from atheists, this one is above average! In Christ 🙏
