Josh was originally not a guitar player, he was a drummer. He learned almost every previous rhcp repertoire to fit in and play live. Longer vids are great, you keep killing it with this channel. Dark Necessities has been a nonstop track for me since finding out about it for the first time recently. Your breakdown makes it feel like more than just a guilty pleasure 😊 and on top of the breakdown/storytelling also appreciate you chipping away at the negativity around appreciating guitar players, elitism in this space is rampant and desperately needs an alternative like this. Nothing wrong with enjoying different things without tearing someone/something else down!

dark necessities is one of my all time favotire rhcp songs, though by the way is my all time favorite album. were lucky enough to watch rhcp once in istanbul, their one ever apperance in Turkey. when i visited usa in 2001, rhcp featured at a venue but i couldnt attend because i was younger than 21 at the time. so i never watched frusciante live. So thank you Josh, they were great with you too :D

I always thought Josh was a perfect fit and a great addition. Excellent multi-instrumentalist musician, John's understudy, knew all the licks and then some. Brought something extra to the band then just being the guy who played guitar.

Great video! I love both John's and Josh's playing/writing on RHCP albums, but especially on their solo efforts and collaborations like Shadows Collide With People, The Will To Death, A Sphere In The Heart Of Silence, and Ataxia's Automatic Writing.

Kinda echoing what a lot of people have said here, I'm really glad Frusciante is back with the Chili Peppers but I'm also really glad I got to see them once with Klinghoffer. We might never hear Sick Love, The Longest Wave, Dark Necessities, and other songs from that era performed live again, but I think they're some of the band's best.

I've never understood the hate that Josh gets just because he replaced John, always seemed kinda petty. Also, I'm still at the beginning of my music theory journey, but I love videos like this. You have a pretty great way of explaining things, so even someone like me who knows the make-up of a chord but doesn't quite know how to apply that in the wider sense of music can understand. Also just wanted to say I've enjoyed both your longer form videos as well as your shorter skit styles videos! keep 'em coming!

Goodbye Angel is where I fell in love with Josh Klinghoffer's guitar playing. That ending riff after the bass break down is chef's kiss.

Man, I love your whole demeanor and the way you talk and carry yourself. Found myself enjoying to listen to you. You vaguely remind me of someone I’ve never met. If that makes sense at all. Nice video! Loved the twist of actually rightfully praising Josh. Was so funny and true.

Just saw the footage today. My god he didn’t even slow down at a pedestrian crossing, he was going so fast he couldn’t even keep to the inner lane, almost looked like he was speeding up. Got out, took a look at the guy and ran straight back to his car. Apparently he didn’t even offer any help to the family. Completely self absorbed PoS.

Imagine having to fill in for a top 20 of all times guitar player at age 28 with a band that has been working on a way of working in a studio since he was 5. John is the better fit, but ‘Encore’ and ‘Did I Let You Know’ are classics in my book.
@tompruyn34922 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the fact you admit to not knowing certain things and still confess to not being able to play everything! I am always intimidated by guitar KZbin and it makes me feel like less of a guitarist. Great video man, really enjoying the content. You have inspired me to maybe start making some content… I’ve been waiting to become a “good enough player” to do that lol.

I really dig The Getaway problably because Josh Klinghoffer playing. It felt fresh and sounded diferent from their last albums. The guy really needs some recognition IMO. BTW Goodbye Angels is my fav from that album! =)
@DoNuT_19852 жыл бұрын
I think the best everybody was expecting from Josh was to emulate John as close as possible but they made two beautiful records with a very own character together. The Getaway is a real gem.

Exactly... Josh is up there with William Duvall of AIC as my favourite replacement musician in a large-scale band because neither of them tries to be the person (Frusciante and Layne Staley respectively) they fill or have filled in for!!

I think the Josh albums are some of the Peppers' best. With the arrival of Josh came a new, fresh sound which was great for such a seasoned band. I agree, Sick Love is my favorite Getaway riff.

The solo melody over the chorus of Raindance Maggie is one of the best examples of 'playing with feel'. That same style is also heard on the sick love solo, the chord arrangements for both songs give it a both dreary and optimistic vibe at once
@halo4eva1002 жыл бұрын
I personally love Josh's playing. I admit it took a while to understand what people meant when they compared Josh and John, since i wasnt much of a guitar player at the time, and they do have different ways of playing, but I think that Josh also has something special in his playing and some of his parts are beautiful.
@Mofficialchannell2 жыл бұрын
Everybody respects and appreciates Josh for keeping the band alive. But the problem is his guitar work was never connected to Flea´s bass work as well as Johns. They sounded like two separate things. The beauty of John/Flea is how their instruments fuse together to create this intricate minimalistic melodies
@c4gam1ng122 жыл бұрын
“Everybody respects and appreciates Josh for keeping the band alive” That’s not even close to being true. Josh got so much undeserved hatred from John Frusciante fanboys throughout his time in RHCP.

Josh did an amazing job filling in for Frusciante... but if you dive into live performances a little more, you'll see Frustrate is on another planet compared to Josh. John's backing vocals are unmatched. Watch the Live at Slane Castle concert if you haven't. And watch any live performances of Scar tissue. John absolutely rips on the 3 solos of that song
@uns33n Жыл бұрын
Those slane scar tissue solos are the most emotional solos I've ever heard. I can hear the anguish and loss of addiction in it.
@stevenalmada111 Жыл бұрын
Never got to see Josh with the Chili Peppers, but I did get the opportunity to see him with Jane's Addiction. And let me tell you this, he is one of the greatest guitar players I've ever seen live, and I've seen a lot of the greats. He not only took Dave Navarro's riffs and played him note-for-note but he was also able to improvise and throw a little bit of himself in there and it was a little chunk of guitar Heaven I'll tell you. Didn't know much about Josh's work before that, but based on that single performance he will go down as one of the best guitarists I've ever seen live and in my opinion one of the best guitar players alive
