For manual cars, having the right hand (dominant hand for most people) on right is better and also having your dominant eye (right eye for most people) on oncoming traffic on non-divided road is better. So, there are slight advantages to driving on the left but no significant difference

You reason for Japan is wrong. When Japan decided to make cars, they obtained a vehicle from the U.K., which was steering wheel on the right. If they had chosen a U.S. car they would have put the steering wheel on the left. But they were sensible!😂

Chances are the Japanese drive on the left because a lot of the first cars built in the country were licence built designs from British companies. Same as why Japanese railways are Cape guage, because they bought British built export locomotives and most of the Colonies used Cape gauge

It's funny that in almost every video game I play, I start driving on the LHS and almost crash into somebody before realising I'm an idiot. Every time. Driving does this thing where I go on auto-pilot no matter what. Luckily I've never rented a car on mainland Europe.
