I keep hearing about how No Man's Sky and Battlefront 2 managed to recover, but no one ever acknowledges that those games literally took multiple years to recover. Both of them in the short term immediately adjusted to secure futures for themselves and 343i have shown neither the will or commitment necessary to achieve that kind of recovery; Hello Games after NMS' release went radio silent, put their heads down and came back with foundational game SYSTEMS to secure the games future health, they weren't wasting their time chasing hamster wheel "content" like skins and events the way 343i have been. Dice immediately scrapped their entire business model and quickly got to work on an engaging progression system, you know the kind of thing that gets people to play everyday because it is at the very least validating the time you spend playing, doesn't lose it's relevance and can't just be bypassed with money the way a battle pass can. Infinite CAN'T make a recovery the way those games did because unlike those studios, 343i is not interested in the potential of a great Halo Game, they're interested the potential monetisation of a Halo Game.

343 was doomed from the beginning. It had rampant staffing and development issues throughout infinites entire development. And then months after it releases we find out that the original idea for the game was completely thrown out and as a result we got a delayed unfinished product. If only Microsoft executives understood that the only way to retain good rates of monetization is to retain the players with a good game with plenty of content first. If this is the end boys, I just wanna say thank you to the community that watched me grow from a small child looking upon my first halo ring after stepping out from that escape pod many, many years ago. I’ll never be able to relive the moments of breaking controllers to Halo 2 legendary, grinding Halo 3 ranked and finishing the fight with my dad many years ago on the Halo 3 campaign. ODST taught me what it means to fight alone and Reach will always remind me what I fight for. For the people behind us every morning that tell us its gonna be okay even when it’s certain not to be. I love this franchise, and Ill fight along side it any time, I just hope that one day… Halo learns to fight back too. Remember Halo boys.

Like I honestly don’t think there is a worse halo game story wise. They literally off screen fix every problem that the last 2 games set up and even then they don’t really explain wtf was happening for 2-4 hours into the story. Also adding a new enemy when they literally have 3 of the best enemies in video game history makes literally no sense and adds nothing to the game. (Talking about the stupid ai empire or whatever they were I literally don’t care what they are)

as someone who actually cries whenever i hear siege of madrigal, i refuse to let halo die. Hopefully someone can put together a team from bungie and actually give us halo back. At least 343 is keeping the game relevant, in the sense that if a legitimately well put together game were to come out in the near future and have cohesive live service, almost all of the playerbase would be back on board.

The Forge hype was short lived because it feels like there was no support. No recognition, no playlist, no acknowledgement of community creations at all. Couple that with a multiplayer landscape that has pretty much stagnated and you have what is essentially a playerbase that has pretty much no motivation to play. Also get rid of whatever SBMM system is in quickplay. I'm sick of it. I shouldn't be going on 10+ loss streaks while at the top of the scoreboard every match

I miss how it was on halo 3 and reach. Cosmetics unlocked pretty much completely through playtime and when you hit certain competitive skill ranks. Made it very rewarding. I remember unlocking the rogue helmet on h3 and it felt truly rewarding. I also miss how reach gave you the mythic and forerunner ranks and nameplates if you played enough

They told me how it was going to be a flop and warned me not to buy it or fall for the crap 343 was going to try and pull. I didn't fall for it. I did buy Halo 4 (autographed) to give them a chance but not 5 or Infinite. After playing 5 at a friend's, I don't even want to play it again or know how it turns out. Seeing the same loading screen for so long really was one if the daggers in me taking a 3-4 month break before forge released. Becomes very stale with the same few maps we had. Implementing the forge maps into MP and split screen SP, I feel would mend some of the community. I feel like to some wish this game dies because they hate 343 so bad for fumbling it in the begging. The hope that I have is from MCC. The MCC team is doing a good job and I'm pretty certain that their team is much smaller. Hopefully 343 notices this and gets us some more content and more bug fixes. A campaign expansion would help a ton along with some decent maps. I'd love for theatre to work properly as well because that would help content creators a lot and motivate them to produce more creations within infinites theatre. 343 knows what they need to do. The hardest truth to admit is with the community completely divided amongst MCC, H5, and HI, Halo Infinite will forever be doomed. It drives me absolutely bonkers to see the loyalty to these older titles. And you know? It's great that people love them enough to play them religiously. But as long as our community is divided Halo Infinite will never have the chance to prosper. It's only hope is newer players and until H5 and MCC servers shut down we won't see a re-united strong community. And that really pains me to say. Reach and 5 have special places in my heart. I don't even anticipate people being happy with that action but in my eyes that is truly the only thing that can save this game moving forward. We aren't getting new players guys. It's up to us and as long as we're divided we're bound to die, surely.

I've given up on infinite. It's too sweaty now, I'm not the type of player who wants to play at a professional level, nor do I have the time to dedicate to become such a player, but I'm constantly pitted against people far beyond me in skill, matched with a team either on par with me or worse. Coupled with the fact that half the time I pull the trigger nothing happens, or my grenades and rockets disappear, or my headshots don't register, or melees and melee weapons don't do anything to an opponent, it's not a fun game.

Infinite doesnt have any "hope" coming back, especially with 343s constant blunders and failures. As an og halo fan o haven't touched a halo since halo 3 and I'm honestly glad I haven't. For a good portion of halo fans this was supposed to be the game that brought the halo franchise back into the picture. It didn't do that, instead it did a halo 4-5 all over again. This was the last nail in the coffin for halo fans and it was about time. I don't understand why there is a large amount of copious behavior amongst the halo community, especially halo KZbinrs. Like move on. Stop making clickbait halo titles. Enough with the "this saved halo infinite," "halo infinite is back!," "customs and forge feels like a refresh the halo community needed," like shut the fuck up already its not even funny anymore. It's pure desperation. Halo fans were all over forge and custom games bringing halo back to life, but when it did come out it barely even brought any players back, when it did, those players left right afterwards. Halo infinite is dead, it's not coming back however much 343 tries, it won't come back into the map. I've been saying it years before when the first rumors of halo infinite were coming out. I even confirmed it with friends who worked at 343, and I was called a liar and a bungie shill. Guess who had the last laugh? Even if 343 does bring halo infinite around the damage has already been done, the player base is gone, and there are more content complete games out there that are worth the money. If 343 wants to bring it around they need to either leave the halo franchise, get disbanded, or get axed by Xbox and Microsoft. Too much is too much. I for one want a new studio to be made for a new halo game.

Cross core imo will bring myself and alot of people back, I don't bother playing because despite having multiple battlepasses, cores, coatings, and armor pieces, a year after launch I'm only level 37 in the reach BP and level 20 or so in the rakshasha armor. Both the samurai and ww2 armor I got the cores and barely progressed the event. All the other free events I never cared about, and I've only purchased one armor bundle from the shop cause I wanted warmaster helmet. I myself have always loved halo but never really stuck around for any multiplayers, mostly because I always sucked at multiplayer on console, only until halo came to pc could I actually do well, but even with that what I spent the most time on halo was creating MY Spartan. Reach was a game changer for me, and because I had no friends to play with I did a bunch of forge, solo firefight, and grinded to rank up my armor to get my Spartan completed. That drive is gone with modern halo, and cross core would open up a huge amount of options to create "my" Spartan. Once cross coatings and cross helmets are in, I'll probably come back for a little, but won't stay until full cross core is implemented. That's the only way pushing for new armors will be worth it imo. Something I also can't stand about new multiplayer games is the massive focus on graphics looking insane and ruining any chance for most casual people to actually play it. If you want to play infinite smoothly, you MUST have an xbox series, or a relatively solid pc. I myself have a great pc that runs it fine, but almost everyone I know does not, so even when halo finally is worth returning to, I won't bother sticking around cause nobody else will be able to run it. My friends and I currently play 2 games. Fortnite and splitgate. Fortnite runs pretty damn well, has constant updates, and has really great collab and original skins that give me a reason to spend real money (third person helps too.) the gameplay loop is great especially with zero builds, constant update changes keep it fun, and despite no level up system, the battlepass gives me a reason to level up and do my quests so I can complete it before it's gone, even when I only like one or two skins. This is the complete opposite for Halo, my friends can't play it, even if they could the item shop sucks and isn't really worth getting anything, battlepasses being forever is nice and I actually really like most of the content in them, but even the fractures which I like alot don't motivate me to come back despite the time limit, I just couldn't give a fuck. Even with a great gameplay loop, the new content still isn't enough. We need cross core, we need drive to progress the battlepasses, drive to complete limited time events. We need weapon model swaps like other assault rifles and pistol models from other games as cosmetics, we need an item shop with more items in rotation, a wider selection of items, ability to buy individual items, a genuine reason to check back often. Fortnite has one of the the best item shops ever and halo should copy it. We also need colored attachments for armor and helmets, a pre game lobby screen that shows the level and Spartans of other players like reach. This game NEEDS to focus on cosmetics, the game actually has alot of good content, but nobody wants to bother to obtain it because once you get it, nothing happens, it's useless to get a cool helmet for a core you don't like, useless to get a coating for a different core, etc etc. Cross core is step one, item ship overhaul is step 2, fixing small things like grey attachments and visible pre game Spartans is step 3, THEN they can focus on new content. Honestly I don't care if they don't make a new map for a year, we have forge and custom games, maps will be made and the community has already shown they're almost as good if not better than dev maps. Nobody gives a fuck about the "shroud shield", the DMR is cool but the sandbox was already very good, just make content that already exists worth getting. Then after that add in new shit like firefight, customizable elites, a performance mode so normal people who aren't rich as fuck can actually play the game, and more. Just so sad that the game is in this state, at this point I'd rather the game be completely abandoned, 343 all fired, and a new team with Staten and other old bungie devs at the head with truly passionate people to make a working and rewarding game.

My opinion, if MS want to make a cash cow of a halo game again, they need to put a new studio into it. I could care less if anyone likes 343, absolute facts are that people are tired of them. they have completely burnt out trust and I will not be forgetting about mister chief or the halo tv show anytime soon. That aside, what you said is spot on, even if some like the game right now, even if some like 343, even if there is some serious coping right now. Halo infinite is dying, no company would put more eggs into this basket, halo 7 is their best bet I think.

Halo infinite will add more stuff, run smoother and play better than any other game through the next 12 months. Lack of content wasn't the main cause. Though that seems like the most talked about. The game was broken and no progression is the biggest thing. The intrinsic value of grinding out achievements on top of a fun game wasn't there. The core gameplay worked but it wasn't fun by itself. So fast forward a year the game is still broken. Sure there are some network and bug fixes but desync is still a huge problem. Forge isn't enough because the servers still suck. Exp doesn't matter. Match making still punishes you for winning. I don't rank so that's not a big deal for me but people who enjoy ranking are fed up. Older halo titles are getting improvements but the flagship game doesnt any attention. It's not a fun game. I'm a campaign player and found it really good, but extremely short.

If 343 needs an example of how to get people engaged in a failure of a launch, they should look in the direction of No Man's Sky. That game had a fucking TERRIBLE launch. Then, after many updates, many new features and such, that game is now seen as the go to example, of how to restore faith in a community and how to bring a dead game back to life.

Infinite is honestly beyond saving. 343 doesn't have the manpower or resources to recover from being a year behind. They should put their resources into either a new game, or a hard re-launch for the current one. Sad to see the GOAT brought so low for so long by poor management decisions.

I want to see the game succeed, but at this point it’s moot. The game won’t succeed. They wanted a broad player base forgetting their a flagship franchise with the most diverse fan base ever to exist, and shot themselves in the foot. The snake eating it’s own tail. Infinite will not recover and Microsoft will be hard pressed to fund another title. The story is trash, two years for basic content while charging the people that stuck around money for the privilege of playing and doing the exact opposite of the community. The game is dead and won’t be resuscitated.

I don't think the statement of "You can't just release a game anymore" hold up well. Consider also what's happened in the past decade of gaming, how much the industry turned to "release it and add content later", in the video itself you lay out what was missing. Anthem, Cyberpunk, big title sports games, the list of games that come out in fragments, only being 'complete' a year or two afterwards. If the studios would actually release a full game on release? Perhaps that IS all you need. An actual game, and not threads that are later woven into something akin to a game. It is also chance 3 of 3, well chance 4 of 4. MCC, Halo 4, 5 and now Infinite have failed to garner new players or keep the old ones. If the old adage goes "Once bitten, Twice shy", how should the saying go "Bitten four times... They keep promising to change, but they still keep biting... maybe next time they won't!"?

I sincerely disagree with the notion that gamer attention span is so short that base game content is not enough. If that was the case then Halo MCC would be dead and it clearly isn’t. The problem is that Live Service models purely rely only on drip feeding overpriced content and is specifically designed to give the bare bones at the beginning. They want you to pay more for content they make and this is how they do it.

I agree with the bottom half of your statement. But mcc is a bit of a different situation. It's a collection of the best halo games ever made all in one place. So as a result it's naturally going to retain loyal player base. But that player base is very small. It's not dead but it does have a low player count and is not growing. Check the steam charts. I don't expect it to have a bunch of players anyways. I'm happy seeing it having 2 to 4 thousand daily players. The people that log on to mcc every day truly love halo in my opinion. Also the team handling mcc have added lots of new content and updates throughout 2022. They have done a great job and im happy to see mcc still getting some love from 343. Thanks for watching!

I think it’s interesting that Microsoft and Xbox’s supposed “Big Hitters” in Halo and Minecraft keep I guess… fumbling the ball on what they deliver vs what fans expect. Halo Infinite is fun, but at the same time I’m not able to get sucked in like the first 2 months last year. It took me the entire SUMMER to finish the Season 2 Battle Pass, and while the gameplay is solid as always, there’s just not enough to do. 343 shouldn’t abandon Infinite, they’re already too deep in between content and apparent additions to the game in the future, but they’re going to need to try harder to get my attention over something like Kerbal Space Program 2, which I’m extremely excited for. No hate on 343, I’m firmly a defender of them on the basis that they’re at least trying to do their best with the resources on hand, but Infinite, while fun, isn’t enough and one of the main fixes I need in Season 3 is ghost prefab pieces in Forge going away, and objects in prefabs phasing down through the map infinitely. They clutter the space I’m building in and generally cause me chaos.

I totally understand how you feel. When I launch infinite, I want to feel some variety as to how I can experience the game. It feels pretty flat still. Forge and CGB definitely helped but it took so long to get these features. Battle royale will definitely help. Hopefully theatre will get fixed so I can actually make machinimas with it the way I want to. Infinite still has great potential but time is running out

@@MR.AlIEN8ED I definitely agree, and as a Forger the ghost prefabs and glitching parts of prefabs kill the joy making a map gives me, so much so that I barely touch it because what I want to make is impossible under the current system, not to mention how you can’t really make Forerunner hallways easily without a massive amount of parts going into prefabs, which only makes my ghost prefab issue worse. What I will give Infinite is the campaign is still fun… in small amounts. Something like how I make head canon that Chief is bringing some Marines to a FOB for rotating out troops and such. That only lasts me so long though so I just leave Infinite after half an hour or so to play something that isn’t stale at this point. I just want something fun and brainless in matchmaking again, and more interesting BTB maps than 2 bases and a structure separating them. Safe to say, when KSP 2 comes out in February that’s all I’ll be playing, even with it only being in an open beta.

Honestly it's a mix of 343 being.. well.. crappy and us gamers now being far too.. un-attentive, its a shame that things have gotten to a point where we need constant content to be satisfied, it's actually going to end up being impossible to satisfy us in the future without having thousands of people making content, might even be daily, honestly a "Great Reset" would benefit us so much, sure nobody likes the idea and valid, it won't be nice. but a great reset where everything just stops for a few years would really propel games after that, though ofc this won't happen, ever, due to companies needing money etc. just a thought I had, maybe ill do my own "Great Reset" and see how it goes.

343 was not experienced with the live game service model. They're learning on the fly. Game engine is another problem. I'm still playing regardless because I'm so attached to the franchise. Oh yeah...the store is broken too

Joe Staten leaving the project was probably the last nail in the coffin for any campaign expansion. That together with all the people getting laid off makes me think the game has been abandoned internally. We’re likely to see just enough updates to keep people using the store (new cosmetics and weak events), but none of the big sweeping changes the game needs to bring people back in significant numbers.

I think you hit the nail on the head. When Infinite came out I played it a bit on Xbox, but I just got bored with so little to do, so I played something else. There are so many choices now in the shooter genre, PvE genre, and even games with tones to unlock. There's live service games and free to play games that all caught me attention more than Halo Infinite because they were interesting. Deep Rock Galactic is a game doing very well and it's a coop PvE game with seasons. Doom Eternal had two campaign DLC's, it has seasonal unlock content and it's been a joy to play. A game I'm sure most here haven't heard of called Dragonball Xenoverse 2 is still selling DLC characters and content because it's been seen as profitable. If all these games can survive in this environment, then Halo should too. If 343 can't reach the seasonality they want, then they should start implementing alternate forms of content. Firefight and its iterations are the easiest ones. Anyone remember Firefight versus? What if they released that along side traditional Firefight? That would mean we have a PvE with playable Elites and now a DLC route of new playable characters and additional content for seasons. Best part is they could probably outsource this so their hands are free. Halo Infinite is going to struggle with regaining players unless 343 does something huge to draw everyone back and have a solid game waiting for them once they walk through the door.

Great video! The machinima gags during live games were really funny and your points were all spot-on. I really like Infinite despite itself, but I do feel it's a bit beyond hope for truly coming back to life. I don't think 343 is equipped to support the game on the level it needs and ultimately I think this experiment was a pretty conclusive failure. I'm looking forward to season 3 but at this point Infinite is only a niche game for diehard Halo fans. I think this game just eeks by until they move on to whatever the next project is. Hopefully they learned from all of this but they've bled so much talent and their hiring practices are such shit that I wonder if there's even a possibility for institutional knowledge to grow organically. But with Staten and Bertone at the company now and Certain Affinity doubling down on their partnership with 343 and Halo, maybe we finally have the right leadership in place for Halo to get back on its feet.

I'm not going back until they add a ranking system and unlocks that are progression and achievement EXCLUSIVE that cannot be bought ever. They can add paid exclusives as well, but there shouldn't be any overlap. Earned items lose all value when you can purchase them.

I think the worst change since my time as a kid with halo reach and such is that people werent constantly querying the internet to ask if a game is dead. I didnt care if halo reach had 12 players - if i got into a match and a few of my friends played it, then thats all i cared about. Now people need validation from the internet that a game is alive. Yeah I actually liked Halo Infinite but I only enjoy playing ranked in Halo, and as you know ranked is a mess right now. Onyx level players like me are stuck in low Diamond because if you search solo the game will just give you unranked players against 4 equal players which is impossible to win lol. I was going like positive 20 a lot of games with 1 minute plus ball time etc just trying my ass of to do everything and still losing non stop lol. So I just gave up on it.

If a story has a perfect conclusion, never start another chapter. It can be great if it builds on what everyone loves and is familiar with, doesn't change anything, respects the original characters, is made by people that love and have a deep understanding of the universe, wants to tell a good story and doesn't have an agenda. It's like how Rogue One or Jedi Outcast II was far better than the sequel trilogy in Star Wars.
