I just want to know why nobody cares about originality when a new rapper who sounds like Future or Young Thug blows up, but when someone like Cordae does, everyone is expecting them to change the game and usher in a new sound in order to be worthwhile. Can’t he just be a good artist without needing to be the next Kendrick or something? I don’t think he’s put out anything groundbreaking yet but the guy still makes good music. I don’t think he sounds as much like other artists as Logic did at times though. Lets be real… Cordae is too normal. That’s all it is. We in a time where it’s very difficult. A lot of ppl are more into The Person / The Persona than they are into The Music. But, if you make yourself TOO “normal” then they gonna say you not a, “star” and call you “boring.” Cole and Cordae both fell victim to this. On the flip, if Lil Uzi does some super normal shxt, it’s more of a break from his persona so ppl still find it interesting.

A few points. - cordae is respected by hip hop, it welcomed him with open arms and continues to support him with features and co-signs from many legends. -cordae is dope; but he still has growing to do. I think he just lacks that rapper story that alotta of the goats have. Or that really relatable album that we’ll hear for the first time and know it’s something we’ll be going back to 5 years from now. Thats not to say he doesn’t have any songs that give me that feeling. But albums as a whole is what he lacks in. - what makes him corny is that He raps about how good of a good rapper he is. He shouldn’t have to do that all the time it makes it seem like he’s trying to hard. He Just sounds like he trying to prove himself to someone all the while lacking that hunger he needs. - his overall sound is not very original. He coming up in an era where lyrical niggas like smino, JID, earthgang, saba, denzel, boogie, and many more all have their own sound thats not like anything else. Thats what makes him lack substance We can always go back to acid rap from chance or section 80 from kendrick and hear something that no one else can replicate. - honestly i think he blew up too fast. At end of the day we just have really high expectations for cordae cuz we feel that he has it in him. It shows in glimpses and we dont want him to turn out like another logic, chance or vic Mensa.

Remember I probably grew up different than most of y’all. It may sound crazy but I believe Cordaes problem is his music. People also need to understand the different between rapper and artist. Rappers wow you with wordplay and all that by doing something they was obviously blessed to do. Some blessed by god type shit. Artists make me feel something. Inspire me. Soul outta body type shit. For me, in my whip, G Herbo gets way more play than J Cole. Matter fact, J Cole only gets play by request. But I know J Cole a 10x better rapper than Herbo. The best rappers/artists find a way to blend both. Something come casual fans can listen too, something the folks on the straight and narrow can listen to, and of course something the streets can feel. Cordae ain’t strikin no cords when I listen. I don’t here him say anything that make me think he like that. Nothing that relates to me or the million mfs just like me. Actually, I used to listen to so a lot of a lot of French artist. 1995, Lomepal, Georgio, Caballero & JeanJass etc. And I could FEEL their passion for Hiphop. And then I might the homie Tim, and heard his music, and it was so powerful, smooth, and like a merging of New York& French Style. We instantly talked about creating music, and although we had different ideas we were both passionate about MAKING music. We wrote a song very quickly, and it was probably the easiest track that I’ve ever made with someone, because we both had love for doing it. We called it “Collage” because, it’s a clashing of different cultures, different style, and different energy. But just like a collage, that shit still came out looking beautiful as fuck! Saying a rapper is corny is more like saying you have a corny approach to certain type of music...

CraZy how every KZbin rap video has akademics in it man is really apart of the culture now

The dude after Akademiks is the one I agree with the most, but I also believe Cordae also jus reminds me of a weaker J Cole

I think if you give it some time and as some doubt goes his way, he will deliver through with some of his best stuff. With his knowledge and skills, I don’t question if he can be great it’s just a question when he will be

Cordae is young and still has time to prove himself. If he takes the feedback and gives to the culture, he could make more of a name than he already has.
@Yinyang12773 жыл бұрын
Exactly he is young. The best part is he even explained he takes our feedback and allows that to help focus his message. He’s got so much room to grow. Just imagine him at 30..

He has emcees like Kxng Crooked and Nas praising him like he'd care about anything else.

You said it best, “ his message is not resonating with hip hop primary consumers” and those consumers like hip “POP” as I call it. Real hip hop heads know what’s up. Yeah, he’s not crazy ass lyrical but you can feel what he’s saying is genuine. He’s young ass fuhh, he’s only going to get better and evolve. He doesn’t have to get the mainstream to like him, just keep doing his thing and real hip hop heads will acknowledge it. It’s a marathon not a sprint. Shii look at DOOM, WU, Immortal Technique, Tech, Living legends, Locksmith, Mos, Jedi, RA the rugged man, Atmosphere, Kool kieth, damm etc. we know the REALS from the “phonies”. Peace

Yall trippin... rappers like him because he's a writer. I like him because he's a writer.

I think it's a product of microwave culture. He is gradually crafting his own lane. Most rappers came out sounding like who they were influenced by then it branched out to their own thing.

These critics have so much to say against Cordae, but ask them to do the same and rap or sing in the manner of their expectations of Cordae, the cannot even handle a verse! You can see that Cordae is a natural talent. His free styling ability is amazing. He has also demonstrated his ability to ride any beat which is not something a lot of rappers can do even the established ones. Cordae just simply needs marketing to help enhance his visibility and therefore grow his fan base.

This video reminded me to go check out his latest drop. I guess any news is good news

Cordae is very good, but needs some shake up in style to distinguish himself. Still - when people compare him to greats, I think it's too much.
