I feel for you. The Ghibli is the sweetest looking car on the road. But the alternative, in my eyes, is the 2018 Audi S5 Sportback. But this is based purely on aesthetics. I hope everything works out for you with your Ghibli.

If you want to go german...look into the 6 series gran coupe..which in my opinion is the best looking 4 door car BMW has ever made. For MB..the CLS. For Audi...the S7. Ever considered a Cadillac CTSV? Also...does the humidity in FL possibly cause this warping issue?
@VladanLukic7 жыл бұрын
Renaldo Nelson Really, you can not compare Ghibli with these cars. Maserati is class above... Cheers.

@renaldonelson9707 жыл бұрын
@Vladan Lukic Yes I can compare those with the Ghibli because FCA/Maserati itself said when the Ghibli comes out it will compete with E-classes and 5-Series. 6-series gran coupe and CLS' are better than the aforementioned models. YES Maserati dominates Mercedes, BMW, and Audi in brand cachet but I am pretty sure RPO himself asked for German suggestions and the models I mentioned are in the same price range and are vehicles customers shop and test drive against each other.

I have a black 2017 Ghibli S Q4, the new touch screen interface is so much better than previous models. Ive had very little minor issues upon taking delivery. I have about 3k miles on it, I drive it in sports mode only haven't had major issues yet. Take a look at the new C63 amg s coupe or audi S5 or S6 similar price range. Your preference of 2dr or 4dr.

Brian Liang I have the same year/model as yours, do you ever hear this metallic zinging sound as your gears shift (in automatic and sport mode, usually around 2nd-3rd gear shifts and 3rd-4th). Is that normal for Ghiblis cause I feel like it sounds unnatural but the service center says it's normal. When they gave me two different loaners that were base models, I didn't hear the same tones but I'm assuming that's cause of the smaller engine as well. Just want to make sure there's nothing wrong with a loose exhaust or something
@ArcticElephant7 жыл бұрын
I saw this reply as soon as I go into my car just now. I tried to listen in between 2nd and 3rd and 3rd to 4th, I drove it in sports and non sports and manual and auto. I tested full throttle and without stomping on the gas in 2nd and gear I couldn't hear what you're trying to describe. The only noise I hear similar is the vibrating of the exhaust as I increase speed.

Read your contract; and, guarantees found within the documents that originated with the vehicle. You'll find that through your research what is covered and what is not. According to what you're saying, if true, you're not responsible for any payment at all that pertains to labor or parts. Therefore, I believe that management at the dealership is playing games with you, and ripping you off. Don't accept what they're telling you. Look at your documents for the truth.

I hope you find this post, rpo305, as I spent quite a lot of time on it. These are my thoughts having worked last year in the automotive industry. The Ghibli is really unique in that it is in-between the small and mid-size car (3 and 5-series, c-class and e-class, etc.) which makes it hard to find something directly comparable. In fact, the Julia is the only car that translates directly in terms of size. Before I go into the boring options, I'm going to throw out the idea of a used Aston Martin Rapide (the sedan). It's pricey to own, but if you can find a warranty like Doug DeMuro on his V8 Vantage, it would be a TRULY incredible car to own. Next, on to the more mundane cars. If you would be willing to go a bit larger in size, the Mercedes CLS 63 AMG, Jaguar XFR, Tesla Model S, Dodge Charger Hellcat, Cadillac CTS-V, BMW M6 Gran Coupe/Alpina B6, and Audi RS7/S7 are all worth considering. The Porsche Panamera is certainly an option, but they have two problems in the form of cost (much less horsepower per dollar with Porsche) and ugliness (subjective, I know, but the Panamera's looks are almost universally hated throughout the automotive world). If you're willing to go slightly smaller, there's the Mercedes C63 AMG, Jaguar XE(R?), Cadillac ATS-V, BMW M3, and Audi S4 (new RS4 is not yet out), but the compromise in rear leg and headroom may not be worth it to you if you find yourself using the back seat for passengers a lot.

An Alfa Romeo Giulia QV would be the best swap, but as with most Italian cars, requires a war chest set aside.

@renaldonelson9707 жыл бұрын
Yeah good point. Jaguar standing behind their cars has improved greatly over the years..they even extended their warranty periods to show more confidence in the reliability of their cars. He could get an XF, fully loaded XE or XJ.
@67claudius7 жыл бұрын
I know that with Maserati Extended Warranty you can extend the warranty coverage for Maserati Ghibli up to the 5th year without mileage limits. With this Ghibli he was unlucky, so the Jaguar seemed, for tradition and characteristics, the most similar brand.
@flyingphoenix1137 жыл бұрын
But, they are still very different products. It's amazing how much of a Ghibli or Quattroporte is still assembled by hand (hence why it is so much more expensive for its relative size). At this point, Jaguar is practically fully automated. At least they've stuck to V8's and RWD.

Mark Joseph And your implication is that what, a Porsche Panamera will be any more reliable or cheaper to own? I'll set aside my subjective biases against Porsche as a whole in order to point out why the Panamera would be an objectively bad choice. Firstly, the Panamera has LUDICROUSLY high running costs. I should know. Three of some of my closest friends have owned them (key word, "owned") and they told the horror stories of Porsche servicing. From things as simple as oil changes and brake pad replacements to the major services, a Panamera would be as expensive or more so than the Ghibli. That leads me to reliability. After the IMS scandal of the early 00's and the relatively unheard of direct injection scandal of the late 00's (which was industry wide, not Porsche-specific like the IMS scandal), Porsche has greatly increased their service intervals to boost their JD power reliability ratings. It has worked. If serviced as frequently as Porsche recommends, it is unlikely you will ever have a problem. But, that would be expected, given that Porsche wants the car in the shop seemingly every other day to ensure that nothing goes wrong. It took working inside the VW/Audi group to find out, but after having done so, I will NEVER buy another Porsche product ever again.

Mark Joseph I do that to point out SPECIFICALLY why the Panamera would be a bad choice. After all, bias is most often the root of misinformation. Brother sell the car asap. As per my comment in the prior video you posted i had the same issue. I just changed my brakes and rotors at 13k miles ($3,000). The Customer service person was really nice, but the company itself from a customer satisfaction standpoint is HORRIBLE / POOR. Worst car i've owned and very unreliable company (never again). Changing the brakes and rotors is not the problem but having to do it that often at that price is plain robbery and very inconsiderate on Maserati's part . The car drives really nice but all else is horrible and lacking vs. competitors. Looking to sell mine as we speak, i'm extremely disappointed. You made some very good points in your video, it's one thing to own the car and be able to make the payments, but be ready to start throwing away money on misc repairs... if you can't afford that don't buy it (fortunately for me i can, but like you, i'm not in the business of wasting money). Again my recommendation is to SELL ASAP. Go with the M version BMWs (M3, M4 or M5), Mercedes also came out with the new E class which is far more advanced in terms of technology than the Ghibli and they have two AMG options the E43 and the E63. I test drove the E43, same price range as the Ghibli and it blows it out of the water. Now that's a car!!!!! the Ghibli can't compare, not even 1 bit. My next purchase for sure (i can only imagine how much better the E63 is but you don't need all that if your satisfied with the Ghibli's performance). I've owned Mercedes before (my last car was the E coupe) Customer service is superior and the car is well built, had no issues whatsoever in 39 months (didn't even have to change tires). BMW customer service is also excellent. I have 3 close friends with Ghiblis, and we are all having a horrible experience... i don't like to bash anyone or any company but with all these people having similar issues the company needs to make things right or go back to the lab and perfect the car before they sell more crap.
@rpo3057 жыл бұрын
Yeah I remember your issues as well and it sucks to hear that. You've also made some extremely good points on service and the competition out there. Gonna look up the E class right now. Having watched almost all of your updates, in just about everyone you mention how much you love the car, and why not, it is stunning, even more so with the personal mods you have completed. It will be difficult to replace, in my opinion there is very little out there that offers the style, character and 'difference' that the Ghibli offers. Consider keeping the car long term, continue to love it and enjoy it's virtues at the same time continue the dialogue with Maserati (or the dealer) with a view to getting them to agree to a proper investigation, especially as your dealer has already stated it doesn't seem to happen to other Ghiblis in their care - just a thought!

it's a beautiful car but it's really not worth all the trouble. If it's not one thing, it's another. My boss let his Ghibli go due various issues. So he got sick of all the back and forth with the dealer. At the end he decided that the troubles outweighed the joy of driving it.
@marcsmith38817 жыл бұрын
That is a shame with a such a beautiful car. It is either a problem with the metallurgy of the rotors or the caliper. If it is the same rotors carried over from the 2015 model, then all it would take is a piston or 2 sticking on one side or the other in the 6 piston(front) caliper. This would cause uneven braking and heat distribution against the rotor. It is an expensive setup so they are not so quick to throw parts at it. I wouldn't recommended a Mercedes unless you are leasing it. As a former Mercedes Benz tech that has serviced every class at one time or another over a 16 year period, I personally wouldn't buy one. They are incredible when working properly and a nightmare when not. I recently did the brakes on a 2015 Ghibli S Q4 and I enjoyed driving it more than my customer's S63 AMG. The interior of the S63 is much nicer, but the car new was over 170K so it was to be expected. I think people like Mercedes because it is a status symbol. People make certain assumptions about Mercedes owners. With that said, you are experiencing minor problems compared to what I see with Mercedes vehicles. The Maserati's, from only 2 years of experience, seem to be much more reliable. I would buy a used Ghibli before I would an E or S class Mercedes.

I have no idea why you still have this car haha. After all the issues, I would've dumped it asap. I'm sure because it's a unique car, you have/want it, but IMO, at the end of the day, it's still not worth it. Look into a m3, or c63 and you won't be disappointed with their quality and performance.

I don't dude sounds like you have bad calipers I would have told them to check k the brake system before they put some more expensive rotors if it messed up two sets of rotors it's most likely going to warp the 3rd set my cousin replaced rotors twice on his car when I looked at it it was the caliper slide pins that seized of course it wasn't a Maserati but rotors don't go bad on their own overheating causes them to warp

George Chaplain hi I've been told by the salesman that I have to drive this car 7km a day minimum, otherwise if the car sit in the garage more than 3 days the battery will dead , is this true ?
@helloby7917 жыл бұрын
+Kay Liu probably has a big draw went it sits if you don't drive it a lot you should get a battery tender.

@rpo3057 жыл бұрын
I had waste-gate issues but after I had them fixed I had no issues at all. I never shared that because it was my first time into the brand with my first month of ownership so I didnt know what to expect and if it was a common issue since it was a newer modeled car. Now since im 2 Ghibli's in i know what should and should not be acceptable and am sharing my experiences with everyone else.

What I don't understand is why you would get rid of a car you say you love because of a 2k issue........ Everything mechanical breaks, wears out over time, obviously there is a huge issue with your rotor/braking system..... Stop going to the dealer. There are plenty of after market companies who could sell you better rotors and brakes than what came with that car...... Formula Dynamics is just one. There are plenty others. And they cost the same as what the dealer wanted to charge you. I understand you bought an expensive vehicle, that is still under warranty, and you are trying to remedy this the best way possible. But this is some sort of design/engineering flaw. Why put up with the headaches of having to take it in every 5k miles even if they are paying. And from what you said in the video, I don't think they care to hear from you about this issue again. You had trouble getting them to foot the bill this last time. 3 sets of rotors in 11k miles is ridiculous, for a new car at Any price, not to mention one at 100k. If you want to switch it up as far as another make and model, fine. But if you plan on keeping that car for at least a couple of years upgrade your rotors and brakes.......

Good advice Kenneth, I plan on keeping it as long as possible. Was just a little frustrated and looking for other options and backup plans. I'll be doing my research these next few months for sure. Thanks for chiming in.
