Good move diving the engine water inlet. South of Fiji once the engine on my boat was running warm but sea strainer was clean. Small floating pumice bits from an undersea volcano had clogged up thru hull inlet.

As a sax player, that was funny. If I were on that gig I think I'd probably have good humor about the impromptu "duet." A good player would take it in stride and make it a fun little thing on the gig. The ones who get pissed just take themselves too seriously. It's jazz, improvisation is the main feature of the style.

On the engine issue: I have a Yanmar 2GM and was getting low water output. It was a combination of the block needing descaler and having to replace the exhaust elbow. These engines clog up after a time at the exhaust elbow, you can get a Yanmar replacement or a guy makes stainless ones if you Google "exhaust elbow . Com"

Hey Sam, I really enjoy your videos, lots of good information there for us wannabe's . I'm 77 years old and still plan on sailing my boat down the ICW soon. Did you make your stack pack sail cover? I have been admiring that and have started converting my old sail cover into a stack pack. Do you have any hints or clues for me in building it. I noticed that you said the lazy jacks should be positioned more forward to avoid being caught by the sail battens while being hoisted. I'm gonna make that change.

Sam, now that you've gone all the way up the east coast. Would you ever consider a electric motor, would you stay offshore more often if you had one. I have the same boat with a old engine, and I dont have the money to get a new deisel, I could afford to get electric, I could do a outboard bracket, or I could just fix and maintain the old Volvo that's in there..which I would prefer not to have to mess with.
