Why I am IN LOVE with The Good & The Beautiful | The best curriculum for LDS Christians out there!

Hello! I homeschool my 4 kids, from middle school all the way to Kindergarten. I have been homeschooling for almost 2 years now, we have been through a lot of curriculum, and I thought I loved what we had... until I found THE GOOD AND THE BEAUTIFUL!
I made the switch entirely over to The Good & The Beautiful, smack in the middle of all the holiday crazy.. it's that amazing! History, Science, and Language arts. I can't say enough positive things about this truly inspired curriculum. It has changed our homeschool, it has lightened my load, it has brought air into our days! I wish I could have found it sooner is all!

This is also a great LA curriculum to use if you are needing bare-bones (i.e have a newborn, illness, etc.). Add in math only and you can still have an incredibly well-rounded education. There’s even some history and nature study in the artwork, geography, and literature portions of LA. I’ve been 🤔 about how she just NAILED IT, and the only answer I can come up with is By the Grace of God. There’s no other explanation.

I am homeschooling my 5 year old. He is Good in math but I just didn't feel good settling on a math curriculum. I was giving him worksheets I found from a book I just bought from a store. When I saw The Good and the Beautiful, I automatically fell in Love and ordered it for him. I also ordered the handwriting and the Level K Primer Language arts book. It is Amazing and I Love it!!

We are on our second year of home school and I too love the Good and the Beautiful as well. My 8th grade son really benefits from the short yet profound language art lessons. I also wanted to add that this is actually a non-denominational Christian worldview curriculum...even though it was created by Jenny Phillips who is LDS. :) There is LDS supplements you can download from the site too...www.jennyphillips.com/supplements/ By the way, we are not LDS.

Isn't this amazing? The Good and The Beautiful was the first thing I ordered on Cyber Monday, even though there was not a sale. I had it on my heart for a few weeks to change our Language Arts Curriculum and as I was ordering I also had the God Talk... I just knew I had to also order for our Pre K child. That was never the plan. It was totally God guiding me. You've made me so excited to receive this curriculum because I've REALLY struggled to pull all of our subjects together. I can't wait to follow.

Thank you so much, I truly feel the Spirit as well that this is right for my girls. I have been really struggling to try to homeschool them, I have a brain tumor too so I can barely get through my basic tasks done 😂 I know Heavenly Father wants me to keep them home right now. I prayed about it because I truly didn't want to do it lol I mean not with this tumor especially but he told me he'll find the way for me to do it. We know he never gives us more than we can handle. This is my first year homeschooling and I ended up picking and choosing all different brands etc. for each subject. I can completely understand what you are talking about things feeling awkward and stoic. I was unhappy within the first few weeks of starting about the language I chose for my 4th graders, so I found the Good and the Beautiful and thankfully was able to print out for free parts of the Course Book 3 to fill in the gaps and I have LOVED it! I am considering using them for almost all subjects next year because I have loved it SO much! So glad I found your channel....I completely agree! :-)

We started using TG&TB this year with our younger two (twin 10yr-boys). We went all in- LA-level 4, History Year 1, handwriting, and Science- Arthropods/Human Anatomy/ Intro the Energy. It has been such a game changer for us. Love, love this curriculum! I love the gentleness along with the focus on what is good and moral with each subject. It is academically rich while not being burdensome or dull. I also have a 15yr old son. I so wished this curriculum was around when he was younger. Last month, I did decide to order the level 7 LA for him to strengthen his skills through review. He is on week two and already says that he wished we had used this curriculum all along. I think Jenny Phillips will have a high-school level LA next year and will definitely incorporate that into his curriculum. I have enjoyed watching your You-tube channel. TG&TB is what gave me the courage to homeschool!♥️ Do you still use your online planner with this curriculum? I was looking into that but the lessons are broken up so uniquely and we get through them at a different pace...I’m curious to see how you organize that! YES, I still use Homeschool Planet!! I plug in The Good and the Beautiful lessons, their math lessons, piano, and reading pages and print them out every week for the kids. Homeschool Planet + The Good and the Beautiful has changed my life. instead of planning I now have nights cuddling with my sweet husband, MARRIAGE SAVER ;)

also, if the kids do 2 TG&TB lessons in 1 day I can just bump up their whole schedule in homeschool planet. I just LOVE having the ENTIRE year planned out so I can visually see our progress, record our progress, and stay on track.

Do you separate some of the longer lessons like when it’s lesson #28A, 28B, 28C.... or do you keep that all as one?

We haven't gotten that far into it, but I just play it by how the child is doing. I don't see a problem separating them if they are long lessons. for instance, on the history curriculum sometimes I break up 1 lesson into 2, to spend more time on a read aloud or a project or answering questions. the beauty of homeschooling is you can just follow your childs lead :)

Hi! I will soon be homeschooling my 8yo for 3rd grade. We are so excited to take the plunge. I do have a question as a first timer--my biggest worry is that we will vear into a direction that will contrary to what students will be learning simultaneously in school. I want to keep some traditional school aspects involved such as grading and homework. Is there a method to measure his progress to ensure he isn't falling behind other 3rd grade peers via an assessment, benchmark testing, etc.? Do homeschool parents worry about this sort of thing?

Ashley Miller Depending on what country you're in, you can use federal standardized testing to measure both your child's progress and how your child compares to other children their age. In America, most homeschoolers use the PASS test because it can be administered by a parent in the home. But there are other tests such as the ITBS test you could use as well.

I have a question for you. We have homeschooled for 6 years and I love the curriculum we are using but i am desperately needing to simplify. We are for sure switching to TG& TB for history and science and I’m wondering if the LA might be a good change for us as well. My question is about the writing portion. We use IEW now and I really think it is amazing (but sooo teacher intensive) do you feel like TG& TB writing is up to the same level as IEW? Does it do as good of a job systematically teaching writing? Thanks so much for your insight. I definitely am in need of some air breathed into our homeschool for sure :)

I had the same concern, so I am so glad you asked this. I initially thought I would just keep our IEW and still do that.... but I saw that TG&TB touches on writing in the same way with the same depth! I love it, so I threw out all our other writing curriculums. There is just such a good balance between everything and the flow is awesome. If you feel your kids do need more writing you can always give them more opportunities (my kids write their own stories in their free time! They have come to love writing and reading). I hope that helps!

I don't supplement at all. I am actually gearing up to sell all my old curriculum. I have heard the Spirit prompt me over and over to "simplify", so I am being obedient and trusting, and it is going so well!! I don't see any need to supplement with my kiddos, but I am sure you will see what works for your kids. So happy you found something that you are being led to!

I don't know what poems and stories you are reading to your kids. But, if it is included in a curriculum such as this it was probably written before 1923. If you want a full - FREE - copy of that work, go to ARCHIVE.COM. On that site, which might be gov't sponsored, you can search by title, author, subject etc. You will be presented with a collection of PDF and other files which are full copies of the desired material [ whatever that may be! ]. These are fully downloadable for FREE. Once you have the copy, you can either read it on the computer or tablet OR print it. Because it is a PDF file you can choose to only print specific page ranges. Also, I have found works of the church on the site. Pilgrim's Progress etc. Great site - good luck.

I am really interested in purchasing the good and the beautiful math for my first grader that will come out in may....however we are not Mormon. Is the curriculum Mormon based or uses Mormon scripture?

This is not a mormon curriculum, many other religions and secular homeschoolers use it! The scriptures used are from the Bible and is a world christian view. It is high moral based and brings light to education. It is a wonderful curriculum :)

Thanks for this review. I have just had a look at the website. If you use level 7 and they are not releasing their high school materials until 2020, what will you use in between? I wanted to look at this for my soon to be year 8 son but I can only see it working for one year - level 7.

I KNOW! I am thinking about this same thing! Just yesterday during church I thought I should quickly switch my daughter to level 6 (we just started 7), so that I have a year more!! I couldnt handle NOT having this curriculum and waiting until high school for her is too long, my daughter is 11 and she is level 7 (or now 6, ha!). My boys are 9 years old and they are using level 4. Maybe we can write Jenny and ask her to include more upper levels ;) Let me know if you have more ideas ;)

My son is in the 8th grade and working on the 5th level. He really needed help in alot of areas of Language Arts. Since he is in 8th grade I realize that he needs more in writing and reading. I supplement his writing with the Creative Writing notebook found here on Jenny Phillips site...www.jennyphillips.com/notebooks/ and I just let him pick books of his choice that are more his age group for independant reading. :)

MonsonSchoolhouse I did the same thing with all 3 of my kids. I went down a level after starting bc I didn’t want to finish the series too early, and it was a smooth transition. A lot of the spelling and grammar rules repeat within each level, so it won’t feel like you’re bouncing around or confusing your kids if you move down.

From what I have read on their Facebook group, they will not be releasing a level 8. They will be releasing high school levels 1-4 and honors high school levels 1-4. After level 7, your child would go straight into one of those levels. HS Level 1 and Honors HS level 1 are set to be released this coming summer (2018).

teaching textbooks for math and yes, we are using good and beautiful science. They are set up as science units, which I have found keeps my kids attention and they are not too long but not too short, and have a well amount of information without it being totally overwhelming (like apologia can be sometimes)

There is a new high school level coming in the Summer of 2018! This could be used in place of grade 8. That is what I am planning on doing ;)
