Hey man thanks for the kind words, yeah it stacks pretty good with other OD’s and it doesn’t really high gain so much as really overdrive if that makes sense, and it does have that ‘sort of vintagy vibe’ cheers!

I just bought the Rowin version of the Dumbler mini pedal this week. Running it mainly through my Vox VX50 modeling amp. Sounded very nice and crunchy to me, warm etc. I gathered from all the reviews that these two versions come at least, very close to a real Dumble amp (and that would depend on which amp you're even talking about, and was it modded, custom, etc.) in terms of the warm sound, and low to med. gain. It won't go into gonzo territory like a Tubescreamer pedal, I have the TS7 one with the turbo insane switch, haha, but this is more like the Blues Driver Boss but with maybe a bit more bite. Both pedals have some great gain if you need it, though. Just not metal type gain, of course.

I have a Rowin Dumbler and the new 2020 Nobels ODR-1 BC (I haven't used the bass cut).. the Dumbler is much darker

Yup I have a Rowin Dumbler, it sounds a bit dark with some amps, need more time to get used to it. On the subject of Bluesbreakers. I have a Mooer Blues Crab which is awesome, and a Tone City 'King of Blues' which a dual OD with Engine B (left side) being a Bluesbreaker (I've A/Bd with the Blues Crab) and Engine A being a Klon type (Likely the Tone City Bad Horse). Back to the dumbler - I've tried it on 4amps so far, The Dumbler sounded best on 'JC Clean' from a micro cube! (a amp I keep at work so I can test pedals work when they turn up in the post.. on lockdown at home now though (UK))

@@dubccoverseer Agreed - sounds nice and bright into a Fender Twin but very dark into my Peavey Prowler (which ironically is normally way too bright sounding!). Great pedal though.

@@dubccoverseer I've not heard of the blues crab, ill have to check that one out, and i'm imagining the 'dumblers' are the same thing, i'm using a hotrod 4 here and it sounds very 'bluesy' to my ears, sort of dark saturated and overdriven, stay well in the UK!

Thanks for the review. A friend turned me on to this pedal. I have to say, for the $ it sounds pretty darn good. At that price, how can I lose? (I have a Ceriatone Lunchbox 20 on order, so I've been doing a lot of research on "D" style amps lately.)

Just got this pedal for $15 used. Has a bit more crunch compared to my Boss Blues Driver. The BD’s drive is smoother. It can get extremely* close though when dialed correctly. I also like that I can cut or add to the mid. Stacking it is fun too. No hiss or noises. Quieter than most cheap pedals when depressed. I’m quite impressed. Only down is, the upper dials are tiny and some are harder to turn than others.

Great video however It would be even better if you used it with a dirty channel to drive it even more, hence the name (Overdrive) everyone demos an overdrive pedal along and never (Stack it with the distortion channel on an amp) to get even more punch like Hendrix, Page and Van Halen! 😎

100k for 30$ or 15£ is a bargain. Most are klons with a Voice control but the Steel Singer and Super Steel Singer etc are more clean sounding and don't add much gain. But who has a Dumble to check against. If it had a cabinet Sim on the output it would be better. Cheers mate ❤

This sounds more like a cross between a dumble pedal and a BB style pedal. The sound is a bit saturated and lacks compression in the mids. It has its own sound, but it doesnt really do the dumbly pedal thing.

@@DerekPaulGuitar I do not think it is the same as the Rowin Dumbler. I have the Rowin, and to my years it cuts a lot of bass. As you say in your demo (and as I could hear), the Stax does not cut bass - I think that is cool, especially with single coil pickups. I have ordered the Sax and will compare them. Love the channel, good review, BUT I would've liked to hear the effects of the tone and voice knobs; they were never anywhere but straight up twelve o'clock. Maybe they sound best there, maybe they don't do much, but it would certainly be a good thing to know , given there are quite a few other dumblesque pedals in this format.

Hi Derek. That pedal sounds really good on your humbucker tele. Sounds OK on the strat. It seems that’s the way it goes these days, most overdrives favor one or the other. My experience isn’t very wide but the two I think do well on both is the Boss Bluesdriver and the OCD, though they are distinctly different animals. Just by vicariously watching you try out all this gear, I can keep my impulse buys to a minimum. Cheers for all your efforts.

Derek Paul I’d try the Bluesdriver first. The OCD is an expensive pedal and is either a love it or hate it proposition.

Well I have a "Dumbler" mini pedal too. It's in a neat little metal box and (drum roll) it has this cool little metal bar to protect the knobs in case you've had too many sherbets. Other than that and costing a bit more (little bar, just guessing) sounds the same. Do we wonder if there are a lot of little metal boxes with the same boards in them, hmmmm?

Hmmm I’m guessing you have the tomsline version, and I would hazard a guess that they are the same thing and that the others are the same too, I like the bar idea just in case of too many sherberts though :) cheers Bill

It does seem to have a bass cut to me. Also I found that it doesn't like too hot of pickups or being boosted by other pedals. I have the Tomsline one with the metal bar.

Maybe it’s slightly different? I’m not sure, this one doesn’t cut the bass, and yes it does make a difference with hot pickups, my humbuckers were a lot for this pedal, although I did like it more dialled back, I’ll check the tomsline one out, cheers for the comment
