Time freedom...AKA freedom freedom. Haha, absolutely gorgeous boat. I have the Oughtred Whilly Boat but need to build one of these someday.

Hey Daren. I built my Caledonia in 8 months following Jeff Kerr's excellent series, and I must admit that when I was putting the finishing touches on I felt this impending sadness roll over me. I just had so much fun building this damn thing that I didn't want it to ever end. Well I revived. This is a very fine sailing boat. The challenge of sailing it well has kept me very much engaged with her and I hate waiting for this winter to end. Meanwhile I lamented the mast partner as the yellow pine was starting to check. I'm debating about making a new birds eye mast out of sitka, the current one is fir and quite heavy. These projects will get me through the winter. Thanks so much for the video, your boat looks great.

Thank you Daren! This is a great bit of sage advice about building your own boat. You have an outstanding craft that generally can't be bought. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question with a video! Great!

Daren Thanks for a great video. I’ve been considering a Caledonia Yawl ever since I subscribed to Off Center Harbor. Also, I live in VT near Geoff Kerr - which makes it seem that much more doable! Your boat is a beauty and the video an inspiration!

This boat can be built in 2 weeks in the fashion you described, of using screws?

Hello Daren. I am going to build a Whilly Tern boat. And I am confused how to shape the planks. Thanks for mentioning that issue in your comments. I am interested why that part of boat building is not explained in detail by a designer or by a builder. Still looking for the answer. Thank you for the video. You have built a beautiful boat.

Awesome looking sailboat! You are part of a very elite group of individuals that had the courage and fortitude to build something exceptional with your own hands. My only wish is that you would of removed all the sails and gear from the boat so we can drool over the finished product. Also wished your sailing video was a little longer. I love the fact that you finished the boat all in bright work. It makes it look so authentic and classical in the best sense of the of the word. Your friends and family must be terribly proud of you...God bless!

Daren - I watched the whole videos series on the Caledonia Yawl by Geoff Kerr and it is one of my all time favorites! I have built several small rowboats and solo canoes but I am concerned the CY will be too big for me to build single handed. Did you have help or did you build it by yourself?

I had very little help in the building process. And I found it quite doable. The planks are very long and a bit cumbersome but it was not Beyond reach. I'm not sure if when you are talking about single-handing if you are talking about sailing or building. I do both. I single hand her a lot! I just got back from a 3 day cruise on the Columbia River in Oregon. I put in at Astoria and took out at Rainier Oregon. I camp on the boat most of the time. I could not be more happy with this boat!

Hi Daren, this is a video I made this summer, I'm waiting for next summer to be able to sail again. Good winds to you and your CY! kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5nRlKelbM2EfsU
