I once believed that my whole business would implode if I wasn't there every minute and for 60 hours a week. The death of a business associate convinced me that the world would not come to an end if I took an afternoon to go to a child's sports event and only worked Saturday if it was essential. My life is much better now that I take the time for family.

You could go all "River Coast" like us boys from TN, WV, n KY and get an old soda pop machine for the shop so All Y'all would pay for your selves on the drinks and there would always be the back of the mind question of do I really need a drink or am I just grabbing what I can see. Relating to this so hard... I work full time, 40-50 hours a week. (Not as much as others I'm sure.) Taking my 4 and 1 year old to daycare. At the end of the day, I only have 1-2 hours of light during the summer, 0 in the winter. Saturdays and Sundays are for getting stuff done. But I just had to stop for Sundays, changed those to family days. No work unless the kids are napping. Even Saturdays are 1/2 days. Stuff doesn't get done around my 20 acres. Projects take forever... but I'll never cherish all those times I was out weed eating 2000yds of fence line, I'll never reminisce about fixing fence boards in the Georgia heat, or water lines in the winter... But I'll always remember playing with my kids, relaxing, and enjoying life.

Sometime in 1991, Dad came home from a business trip to India late one summer night. The following day, as was his custom, he showered at 5am and went into the office. That evening, after a long day full of many work-stresses, Dad came home and went straight to his home office to finish the day's assignments. After dinner (which he missed while taking a phone call from East TimBukTu), I visited him in the office to see if he wanted to take a break and play catch in the backyard. For one fleeting instant, a flash of exasperation shot across his face as he realized he should take a break... but there was so much work to do! He took a deep breath, pushed back his chair and said, "Yea, kid. Let's go" with a hint of relief in his voice as if suddenly the day was better. We tossed the ball until dark with our arms sore from turning pretend double-plays. Whenever my kids ask to do something with me, I always think back to that night and drop what I'm doing. Thanks, Dad. Miss you.

The best naps I’ve ever had in my life was with my daughters when they were little! I knew I was there to protect them!

Her attempt to stay still was valiant, but kids just seem to be full of jumping beans.

Cody, If you're making raised flower beds/boxes for Mrs W - why not make an extra box for Sweetloaf and fill it with sand - then she will have her own permanent sandbox and not commandeer the trailer. One board high with a membrane on the bottom and voila. Perhaps even put a board around the top for her or whoever, to sit on.

I have four children (21-28) and sometimes when we are talking about "the oldest days" I will put my arms together like I'm holding a baby. And their response is, "Yes dad, we know you remember when you could hold us in my arms and rock us." ENJOY the moments! They may never come again.

I love that ending. It's easy to get so caught up in our work that we forget what's really important.

I used to work every waking moment. After 9/11 my priorities changed and family became most important. Since the world started falling apart its a lot harder to focus. Why? Did my parents and their parents work their whole lives to build this great country just so I could stick my head into my work, stick it in the sand and leave my children with a destroyed CCP puppet state? I’m too old to physically do anything about it and my kids are too young to carry the torch. So, for now I do the best I can, do my work, and try and make sense of a senseless situation. A situation that has not changed since we suffered a biowarfare attack last spring, but I keep expecting it to. 🤔
