I never owned a leatherman till 2 weeks ago. I got the Blue/Green Skeletool Was a gift to myself for being 9 months sober. I cannot believe how much use i have got out of this bad boy. It’s a dream EDC. I have used it to open boxes put spark plugs in a friends car used the knife to pry apart an old wooden shed at the base. And much more. But today I received the bit kit and oh my Wow. How awesome is having 42 tools on hand plus a knife and even a Bottle opener. Since i quit drinking i will pop the top with the bottle opener on a Coca Cola and cheers to you and your video. Very informative and hope all is well and blessed and your staying safe and healthy in these uncertain times. One last thing have you thought about super gluing the bit kits together and making them into one. Just an idea be well brotha

Very nice. Also the pliers. I never thought I would use the pliers so much. But now they are always in my pocket, I think I use them almost everyday. I have thought about gluing the bit kit together but guess I'm afraid of that commitment if I don't like it. Maybe I will double side tape them together first.

I chose the skeletool cx after watching a million reviews about it first. I live in Hong Kong, and at the price it is here, I could only afford one leatherman. I am beyond happy with it and the bit kit, and glad that I did all the research.

Skeletool is like a pocket knife that happens to be a multitool. It's so comfortable and feels like a regular knife, but has the extras.

I absolutely agree. I also love its carabiner clip too, very few high-quality knives/tools have that feature.

lucky enough to have just been given an older skeletool cx with the carbon fiber from my dad, it's so comfortable and nicely weighty to hold as a knife. he'd wanted to give it to me when I was way younger but my mam hadn't let him lol. great knife/multitool

Thanks for the great video, I carried a Skeletool everyday for almost 10 years! I switched to a Free P2 and swapped the knife and scissors so I can finally open a Leatherman blade left handed!! I gave the Skeletool to my son and now I need to buy another one for when I want to carry a lighter EDC :)

I work maintenance in a very large grocery warehouse. I have carried the Skeletool for quite some time and the proprietary flat bits are the leathermans downfall. The flat bit holder bends and distorts very easily and then the bit lock doesn't work. Having to carry adapters just to use standard bits is a pain in the you know what. I am getting ready to try out the Gerber Center drive because of the bit holder and one hand pliers deployment. Someone needs to make one (if they haven't already) that doesn't have the stuff no one uses like the bottle and can openers and add 1/4 and 5/16 nut driver bit storage. That would be the ultimate multi-tool in my eyes.

37gdog. I carry the Milwaukee 5-1 razor knife and pair of knipex Cobra XS and a tin with metric Allen and Phillips 1, 2, 3 and Robby 1 and 2 . Large flat head . 1/4 dive to 3/8 adapter . Torx 10 -25 . And 2" extension . I have it all in small chums wallet case with a Craftsman ratchet and polka pen . I work as Machinist and help maintenance alot so it my mini tool kit. Just what I carry .

Good review! As a first time buyer, I too, got the Leatherman Wave a few months ago. Very nice, but slightly too big for pocket (for me). It's in my truck kit. Then I got the Leatherman Free T4 (knife) for EDC. Great size, I prefer the build over the Victorinox products. But now I want the Leatherman Surge.... I swear this is becoming an addiction!
@Commando_-eq9qo2 жыл бұрын
surge is heavier and 0,5 inch bigger than the wave, my dad has both and weight difference isn’t big but the length it is but the pliers and sciccors are some much better than the wave version

Most people prefer the cx model for it's 154cm blade but i prefer the original with the serrations because it gives you more cutting options.

As a child of abuse, I have always tried to keep as many things on me as possible -- you never know when things will go sideways. As a child, this meant pens and art supplies and flashlights and candy bars, so a backpack or pouch was pretty common. As I've gotten older I've found out that the more you know, the less you really have to carry AND have discovered the truth of the adage "every ounce counts". After many years, I've settled on the Leatherman Skeletool because really that BEST bit driver Leatherman makes is a game-changer; it can accept modified T-shank saw blades and files, for instance! All this with the serviceable open architecture seals the deal for me.
@badger-63773 жыл бұрын
I wish the Skeletool had a pair of scissors, my CX would be perfect if it did. I still carry it a lot but I also slip a little Swiss Army Knife in my pocket along with it for the scissors (and tweezers). I carry my Wave to work, don't use most of the features with any regularity but I do maintenance work and I never know what strange feature is gonna come in handy for a given task. I also like the carabiner on the Skeletool more than I thought I would, sometimes I clip it to a belt loop instead of putting it in my pocket (I keep a lot of stuff in my pockets).

Never a fan of opening a handle to access tools inside the scales. Much easier to acesses tools exposed on each side of the scales. But at the time I did not have a wire cutter/needle nose with a file, alongvwith a can opener and other equipment appointed together. The Skelletool is a great improvement over my old conventional Leatherman. More comfortable on my palms than the earlier scales diging into them. And the Carabiner! Better by far than a lanyard. Thank you for putting up your EDC video on You Tube.

I also edc the skely primarily because the bit kit. I like to keep the big Phillips head bit in the end because it doesn't cut into my palm when using the pliers. Also worth mentioning is they have a ratcheting bit extender which I'm looking at pretty hard to be an upgrade to the standard extender.

I love my Wave, and have had it for over a decade now. But my EDC is defiantly my Skeletool. Everything that I need, and nothing that I don't!
@edwardfletcher77903 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, I love my Wave, but you can't pocket carry it, it's belt holster or nothing ! I also love my Victorinox lock blade, but I've gotta have pliers, that's why the Skeletool is awesome ! You should look at some of the cheap small 22 magazine belt pouches, you can fit the Skeletool and bit kit in one item. They're also horizontal belt mount which is a really nice option.
@davidsiegel98473 жыл бұрын
Leatherman has had locking models for several decades. My first Wave and my Supertool are 22 years old, and doing fine. Though I do have a Skeletool CX, and a regular Skeletool. And another 25 or so Leatherman. Plus Victorinox Swisstools and Spirits, and SOGs, and Gerbers. The Skeletool CX is great. I was relieved to have a multitool with a few select features, and a blade with a fairly tough steel. I never think, "if only it had ..." More than enough choice of multitools with various features from which to select. And multitools are not heavy duty sustained use tools. So they are not a substitute for a tool box anyway. My Surge, and my Swisstool, are far better but too heavy just to toss in a pocket. Cheers!

I just been watching another review of the Skeltool and his main gripe was no prybar. However if you look at the bigger screwdriver included in the handle it is pretty thick at the tip and the seat it clips into is also very thick steel. It would be fine as a prybar ( within reason ) maybe for prying paint tin lids ect.

Glad you like the Skeletool. I am the opposite. I think it is the worst multitool that Leatherman makes. We got ours off the shelf at a discount for $40.00 and I still think it is over priced. I did a review video on the Skeletool and showed the pros and cons by using it for various tasks. The only good feature on the tool is the bit driver - which I mention in my video that Leatherman should have this on ALL their tools. I was pricing tools locally last week and the Skeletool is now $85.00 It wasn't worth the price at $40.00 - SMH Anyway, good video. And, I am glad you like the tool.

Love the Skeletool CX and now your video makes me want to order the bit kit. I've also have seen there's an adapter that fits into the carabiner /bottle opener that will accept the hex/Apex bits and doesn't interfere with the carabiner /bottle opener. 😎✌️

I've carried Leatherman products since the original PST in the 80's. I remember everyone saying it was just a toy and would never catch on. I have two levels of EDC, casual and everything else. By casual I mean those times when I am just knocking around the house, going to the movies or out to dinner, etc. For this I use to carry a Skeletool but I switched to the Wingman in early 2020. I find it to be a far more versatile tool than the Skeletool including the fact that it can be carried either in a holster or via the pocket clip. My casual EDC is rounded out with a Kershaw Leek composite knife and a Streamlight ProTac 1L flashlight. For everything else I carry a Wave+ with a bit set. This is complemented with my Kershaw Leek as my primary blade, a Kershaw Shuffle II Tanto for grunt work and either a PorTac 1L or ProTac 2L as my flashlight (through if I am working nights I tend to carry both). When I purchased the Wingman it cam with the no-pocket nylon sheath which I promptly put into service for my Wave+ then I ordered another nylon sheath for the bit kit. I works great because it keeps everything low profile to my belt and I don't have to fiddle with the elastic pocket to get the bit set in and out. The leather sheath that came with my Wave+ now hold my Wingman on my belt.

I found nice Kydex cases on Ebay for my Wave tool and even for the bit kit and extender - Get the spring clip version as it is easy to clip on or remove - and you don't have to undo your belt to remove them - Plus I sometimes wear pants or even shorts outside of work which don't use a belt - I can clip them directly to the waistband for carry.
@sd34573 жыл бұрын
I've had one of these for a couple of years. My only real niggle is that I wish the pocket clip was the other way up. Yeah, I can see that it would be difficult to engineer that way, but I have a short lanyard on it to give a bit more security in using the knife, and it would be really nice to have that at the top of my pocket for easy retrieval and the knife then the right way in my hand to open it.

What was the name of the smaller Leatherman that came with your wave? I cut the carabiner off of the skeletal, which basically made it the same size as your smaller tool. It’s perfect. I love it.
@jayn83922 жыл бұрын
I see the skeletool as a good edc but the wave and the surge as something you use at work alot in a pinch. For tradesman like electricians and maintenance folks I think the wave offers a lot. Especially with the replaceable cutters. But I am kinda with you on the skeletool the stuff I generally need are players, cutters akinife and a driver. I just kinda hate the Leatherman bits to be honest and am leaning towards a center drive despite my general dislike of Gerber. There is alsa a tool called something like the adv gun tool that has an awesome driver switch multiple lock points that also accepts atandard bits. Lots of good options out there. Atm I carry a Bradford guardian 3 small of back and and old school mint original super tool 100 I found in a junk bin at my father in laws that he didn't want. I will likely be putting together a little kit with a skeletool, whoa bits, the extender and a small ratchet driver for nuts and extra torque on the bits. Plus a good flashlight, I always have a high output small light at work. Found a really cool one that was 30% with prime that ended up being about 20$, (no battery though...) with a swivle head, magnetic base and 600 lumen max outpit. And so far it's been a great little light.

In general, a blade will cover most of my basic tasks so I only really carry a knife.. small sebenza. Otherwise, any tools I need are just a walk across the shop away, or in my backpack. Kit does include an old leatherman sideclip though.. I actually found it in the road while riding lol.
