I’ve been tattooing for 16 years professionally and I said for years I would never switch to Rotary machines, and recently just purchased my first Wireless Rotary Machine and I’m in love with it. Consistency I’ve never gotten out of coils machines. Even coil machines that I paid $900+ each for. Bloody Rotary machines are taking over my collection Xx

If you dont know how to fix your machine you should not be tattooing in the first place! Its not supose to be easy nor for everyone! Sucks that the tattoo scene is going down ! Not saying rotary are bad, but if u can take the best of both worlds why not! Everyone should learn how to tattoo on a coil…later when u know what u doing, sure buy yourself a wireless dildo!

I used both. Though I like the specific tuning of the different coils I went back to rotary only. My reasons: 1. Fast and easy to use, changing needles etc. 2. Once you got used to it you can do everything with the same feeling of the machine and don't have to switch your mind to different weights, feeling etc. 3. Easy to travel. 4. Hard to hold the could for several hours. 5. Easier to use in different angles and directions. 6. Less plastic waste (no machine bags anymore). Even if slmeone loves the feel of coils, once you go rotary you get just pissed off when you go back

Im a firm believer in starting from the beginning.the coil is the essence of the art of tatooing. That is just my opinion. In apprentice if ur boss is a old school artist he will have u breaking down every component till u can breakdown n rebuild back to full efficiency. Very stressful while going thru it but glad i got that dxperience

Oddly rotaries are the original machines from what I gather. I use coil for lining every now and then as I don’t want to abandon what I started off on so it’s more of a sentimental thing but rotaries just streamline the setup and application so much more efficiently than coils that I can’t see myself returning to coils as my main machine.

i started from coils years ago. learned to tune and understood the coil.. then switched to direct drives and pens.. used em for a few years.. they're light and convenient at first til i used larger needle groupings.. i feel its faster if i used coils and heals faster too.. i went back to coils and i built em myself. i exclusively used micro coils coz its lighter.. i have my own geometry etc.. we can be artists and "tattoo mechanics" at the same time too. lol coil or rotary i do the same quality art..

Also for tattoos that heal really quick unless your using cartridges (cause they only punch so hard and fast) coils just heal so much better and quicker unless your hitting perfect depth with rotary 100% of time. I use the weight of the machine to go into the bog and i end up with a soft hand but i can only do that cause i have a heavy brass.

I’ve been using coil machines strictly for 21 years now and counting. Tuning my machines, adjusting stroke, etc. is hardly comparable to a mechanic-it’s more like working on a skateboard. But I am curious about this rotary business.

Beverly Ann Henderson snakes eyed is right about the Cheyenne Spirit as it is a short stroke machine, and, if you are one of those who love lining with long stroke then don’t go for spirit. Personally I feel Spirit is a great blender for smooth and soft shading and also does great colour packing at higher speeds, I use it all the time but not for lining. I recommend Cheyenne thunder, it’s the best for all types of work, it has 4mm stroke and a good hit.

Obviously the crazy expensive machines are gonna be far superior to the cheaper ones. How different is it though because I've bought 2 so far for around 80$ each and I feel like neither has enough oomph behind the needle. Or power behind the needle hit. Is this souly due to cheaper machines most likely or what does anyone think about the difference?Always a great video. I know I appreciate it greatly

mike mcl there are few good cheaper machines out there, i know one, Kabellos, it’s a wireless rotary, enough power to all kinds of work, and it’s cheap. However you can not compare coil to the rotary, the feel and the way of working of rotary is way different the coils

Honestly that noise is therapeautic to me its my personal waterfall. I Love traditional work but i do work with smaller needle sizes. 3Rl(#12,#10), 5RL (#12,10) 7RL(#12), #12 11RM, #12 13RM(small curve not big curve), and i heard with rotary its better for driving smaller needle sizes but there is something about that punch that you cant beat the colors are more vibrant from coil and the lines more crispy i will hand it to rotary for shading though cause unless your going for pepper dots rotary seems the place to go. TL;DR should i consider rotary for shading/coloring and using a coil for lines? Novice tattoo artist wants to know
@SunnyBhanushali
@SunnyBhanushali 4 жыл бұрын
I believe the rotary is the new age, it’s the evolution, I am a big fan and follower of Julian Seibert, check out his work, he does great solid bold lines, deep colour packing with just Cheyenne Thunder. There is nothing special about coils, rotaries are far better, it’s only about adapting to the new machine. People using coil are familiar with how it works and so when they try to move to rotary, they find hard to adapt to the change.

Hello Thomas, as far as the traditional knowledge goes, coils seems to the best for Japanese style, however as far as my experience goes, Cheyenne Thunder, Cheyenne Sol Nova are really good ones to replace the coils for your style. Understand this, the way you work with rotaries is different than you do with coils, so whenever you start working with rotary, give yourself enough time and space to experiment and learn about it.

Hi Sunny. First of all, I'd like to thank you for sharing such sincere thoughts. You've actually given me good food for thought. Could you please let me know if I should buy the "Stealth Rotary 3.0" at a price of Rs. 10,000? I have a limited budget but I'd like to switch to rotary. Please share your thoughts.

I understand that you have budget constraints but I recommend you go for Cheyenne thunder or a cheaper option is Kabellos wireless

KnZzi 1 thunder is 4mm stroke while the pen is 3.5 and it has much harder hit than thunder which I personally feel is too much. Thunder is an all rounder machine

They don't work well at all for American Traditional. And a lot of us "Tattooers" like to honor the traditions which I haven't heard you mention once. Try doing an American traditional back piece with rotary. Lol. Good luck.

Idk. But to me if you can't build your own machine. Coils and all. You're cheating yourself and your customers of an experienced tattoo artist.

I respect your perspective but that is not true, the world is evolving, and so the technology. Every tech is made to save time and energy so that humans can focus on next level work. Do we make our own pigment and wires ans food pedal, and the tattoo station, no right, you let the experts do it and you focus on your art. It’s same with the machines, I am just sharing my perspective

@@SunnyBhanushali well. Being a scratcher movement soldier since 2014 I would beg to differ. Limiting yourself to a makeup pen doesn't mean you know how to tattoo correctly.
