The weather in Kunming is truly the best in China, especially in winter, and it's also very convenient to travel to Southeast Asia. Xishuangbanna's cultural charm is also quite unique.

Hey DC, great video, couple questions 1. How do you run a business with the internet there, is there restrictions? 2. Does it get lonely moving to a new country and are you fluent in mandarin/cantonese? 3. How are you finding socialising in China and making new connections?
@dcafterdark Жыл бұрын
1. I use a vpn 2. I make friends easily so it’s not very lonely. I’m very busy everyday. Definitely not fluent in mandarin but I can get myself the things I need. 3. Very easy! Everyone wants to be friends here it’s really refreshing to talk with lovely people everyday

Hey man, cool video! Just returned from a visit to Kunming/Yunnan and have also considered moving there. Question: are you on a travel or business Visa? Does your visa allow you to operate a business outside of China? How are you dealing with taxes?
@dcafterdark11 ай бұрын
I own and operate my business in Australia, and work remotely (anywhere). I'm on a resident visa that I obtained through my wife (she's a kunming local)

The question is you get this kind of quality of life for this little money, where else?
@dcafterdark Жыл бұрын
Almost all of southeast asia gives me the similar living expense to income ratio (with exceptions). I chose Kunming in China because it's beautiful, the people are lovely and the weather is fantastic.

Hey i don't know if you still read these comments, but im planning to go on a research year in kunming and im curious what's it like? heres a few questions 1. whats the cost of living like? how much do you pay for dinner and groceries? 2. was it difficult to get a visa? 3. is the 'observation' by the gov as bad as people say? are you able to use apps like instagram or facebook? 4. are the people wary of foreigners? how are you treated by people? thanks! nice video!
@dcafterdark Жыл бұрын
Cost of living is low. You can spend 1000rmb a month and live happily if you like. No, it was very easy and fast to get a visa. It's nothing like what people say, except to use those apps, use a vpn. Astril vpn works the best by far. People love foreigners. They'll often ask where you're from, what your country is like, and try to make you as comfortable as possible. It helps to speak the language, and will be easy to make friends. Alot of people just come up to you and start talking because you're new and different and they want to show you the best they can.

Hey dude I just wanted to mention if you render your videos and upload them in 1440p, KZbin will use a different compressor and make your footage look way better. Anything under 1440p uses a lessor one, this video will explain it better, kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGnSe2N8jq6LjKM , I didn't realize this for a long time, but figured it could help because you are shooting a lot of nice footage outside, cheers ✌️

Oh shit, true man! Thanks for this and thanks for jumping over to this channel as well
@dcafterdark Жыл бұрын
Just watched the video you sent here - I'm already doing exactly that. I'm recording footage in 4k and exporting it in 4k. KZbin just kills the footage for some reason even though the codec is set correctly. This doesn't happen on my other channel though weirdly with the same camera, editing software and export settings
@BMilitant Жыл бұрын
@dcafterdark hmmm, you think it could be because this is a fairly new channel? That would suck if that's the case, making it harder for newer creators or new channels. Oh well glad you know, just wanted to make sure because I can tell you are probably recording in high quality

It's interesting that you find China or specifically Kunming "better" than Australia (which supposedly has a better standard and quality of life), noting that scores of Chinese migrated to places like Australia and the US. There has to be some differences in perspectives here. Lijiang is idyllic if you stay away from the touristy part. I personally prefer the less touristy parts of Tibet or Xinjiang for retired life where beautiful nature is in abundance (Yunnan too) but where the ethnicities and cultures there are kind of "different" for me. In China, esp regions where foreigners are sparse, local folks are generally curious about these foreigners and even want to take photos with them as if they were celebrities. Less so for locals in first-tier cities like Shanghai and Beijing, nothing special for them. The younger ones might also want to practise their conversational English since the speaking environment is mainly Mandarin, so not many opportunities to polish up what have been learnt in schools. So in summary, as long as you don't look like the typical Han Chinese, they will think you are a novelty, whether you be "black, white or yellow".
@dcafterdark Жыл бұрын
Have you lived in Australia before? Aside from the extremely high cost of living, it’s a beautiful place, but for my circumstance, Kunming is a much better option
@TruthIsInHere Жыл бұрын
The Chinese that migrated to places like Australia and the US are mostly either 1) PREVIOUS generations where China was indeed not up to par so they migrated 2) Spouse is Aussie 3) Brainwashed 4) Fugitives / Cr'm'naLs 5) NOT really migrated but merely have other vacation homes other than in China coz they are rich enough 6) Can't compete for the jobs they vie back in China / too weak, etc 7) Running away from their Chinese kins, relationship problems, basically the escapees / quitters
@LiyueHuman Жыл бұрын
Have you thought it’s simply because China has a bigger population to begin with… of course whatever it does, it will have a “more Chinese” are doing that thing kinda impression? In terms of percentage, chinese immigrate way less than the US for gods sake
