One thing almost nobody mentions is the different formfactor: the 11 is the only ipad that is more rectangular. Which means smaller black bars when viewing widescreen content (in landscape mode). Even though the 12.9 has a larger screen, more of it is unused space with most movies and tvshows.

I personally own the 12.9 inch one and I really love it. I especially like it because I tend to use the multitasking feature to put my textbook on one half of my screen, and my notes on the other. I've never had an issue carrying it around. That's one of the main reasons why I got the larger iPad. If you want to try to FULLY convert from paper to the iPad, the larger one is great because it can fit absolutely everything you need on the screen and you may tend to multitask more than you really think ;)

exactly why I placed my order today! I currently own a 10.5 pro and splitscreen can really be a problem, especially when I'm trying to take notes from a textbook. I don't necessarily need it as a laptop as my mbp has been serving me well, but the larger screen actually means a lot for us who use splitscreen on a daily basis. and at home my mbp is connected to a larger monitor, so I would normally view iPad screen when studying. So I think the larger screen would be nice. I had the same doubt about "hard to carry it around". But c'mon, put it in a sleeve and pack it in your bag! The 11" Pro is closer to 1 lb without a keyboard case. The 12.9" Pro is 1.4 lbs without a keyboard case. So by the time you add a keyboard case to it, it will probably double in weight
@daveevans71514 жыл бұрын
NileshR12 I plan on the 12.9 with a portable keys option, like Logitech’s Keys to Go. I like to take and edit photos so what the larger display (getting close to full laptop replacement for me). I also do not like the keyboards by Apple as they take away the tablet functionality of either device. Don’t want keys in front of my display for watching movies / TV as well as when I use it for Sidecar (I travel). I also take a lot of handwritten notes using Goodnotes and OneNote and the ability to fold flat in tablet mode without feeling keys is lost. Don’t understand this decision by Apple. For those reasons, I will get a thin third party cover / case with the super light keys. Again, this is just my pref based on how I work / get stuff done.

As a student using it for reading and taking notes the past 5 years I’ve found the 12.9” is way too big. Too big to hold one handed, too big for smaller desks, takes a lot of space in my bag in addition to the other school supplies I carry, brings a lot of attention to you, and I never used the screen bc I always zoomed in when writing notes. This was a concern of mine when I bought the 12.9”. I spent a lot of time comparing the 11” to the 12.9” wondering if the extra screen space was going to be to much or even necessary. Almost a year later I now know that I’ve made the right choice. I am one of those people who multitask on the iPad a lot and sometimes the 12.9” feels too small still. You are definitely right, if you mostly use your iPad as a tablet and not really as a laptop like device, than I can see how the 11” would be perfect. Even using mine as a tablet without the keyboard case, I find it to be the perfect size. It starts to feel really large when I use it in portrait mode though but since I always use it in landscape unless forced by an app, the size feels great to me.

My previous was 9.7", current is 10.5", the next will be 12.9" (2021). I hope bigger screen will be a nice change and 200 gram heavier will not bother me to much as I use iPad at home only. I am looking for bigger work space for music apps, pencil 2, read comics, games, etc. 12.9" before 2018 were in fact to big because of a big bezels, but the 2018, 2020, 2021 models are definitely more shapely. If to big I will change it to 11". Cheers for any size iPad users.

I don’t think the 12.9” is heavy at all. I was going to originally get the 11” but it didn’t feel right, so I got the 12.9”. I got the 2018 not the 2020. I ended up skipping this year and holding on to my current iPad for an extra year or so. The updates on the 2020 were mediocre at best, but for those upgrading from older versions of the iPad, I’d say it would be worth more of a buy. Great tablets.

People might have different opinions based on their lifestyle. I am a highschool student. The 12.9 inch iPad is better for me because it has a bigger screen which makes it easier for me to see when I do my projects and take notes, it's also better because I leave my iPad at home so I don't have the problem of carrying a huge device with me. My mom, however, can't cooperate with the 12.9 inch iPad because she's a teacher and will have to carry that big thing around. So my advice to you is that you should carefully think this through before buying either one. 🙂
@tristantsi9234 жыл бұрын
I am using the 12.9 inch, you can't actually use it as a tablet, it's more of a laptop and FYI it costs just as expensive as an macbook. And the 128 GB works just fine, I use iPad pro as a daily driver for work. I think it's more futuristic and easier. I love it. Also shoutout to Logitech slim smart folio, it's better than the overpriced iPad keyboard folio or the magic folio. A strong recommendation!!!
@augustinesob44764 жыл бұрын
You are right. If I spend over $800 on an iPad, it better look very different from $400 one my kids use in the house and the only way this can be done at a distance is to get that 12.9. When people talk about portability, most of the time the iPad is used with two hands anyways. I use the iPad for teaching and should be able to do multitasking without eye strain. Most iPad owners have laptops, iPhone, apple watch etc. I just wish the battery life were as good as the 11 inch iPad. The size difference between iPad Pro 11” and the iPad Air is not very noticeable, I will say again, if I’m going to spend that much money I want people to see and if you are like me the only way is to the 12.9 inch. Most Apple fans like to show off . I’m just being real. Lol

I think there will be some buyers remorse with the 11” when Apple releases the Magic keyboard in May. I owned the previous gen 11” but went with the 12.9” this time around because of the magic keyboard. I can’t believe how much of a difference it’s made for my workflow and casual use.

I just got a 12.9 and it HUGE. Its a bit unwieldy compared to the iPad3 that I lost, but it depends on your philosophy of use. At 57 I need reading glasses, but I can see the 12.9s print without them. I have a ton of books and gear manuals that I keep on my pad, so thats a big plus. I also take it camping to watch movies and youtube. Its better and more flexible then mounting a TV in my camping trailer. I use a MacBook Pro, so no keypad fo me. Your assessment is quite accurate.

I understand fully. I went from a ipad pro 2016 9.7 version to a 2017 12.9 version. I suddenly couldn't draw the same way anymore. It suddenly required you to have some form of support, while drawing. While with the smaller ipad pro. I could sit or stand at weird places, without support, and draw until my drawing hand went numb. So I agree, if you want to be really mobile. for editing or drawing, the 11" is probably the best choice. It's smaller factor should also make weight distribution, while holding it in one hand, a lot easier and forgiving too. Just need a nice fit cover, which protects them from BENDING. lel.

For me 11 inch is way too big for me. I cant think about 12.9 inch. But I prefer to buy the 11 coz 1. It can be used as a laptop 2. It is big but smaller and lighter enough than 12.9, which makes it handy and portable. 3. Less expensive coz of the smaller size and weight than 12.9, which makes it easier to handle. Also, if u r buying an ipad for Gaming, School Work, or HEAVY DUTYS, u must go with 11 inch ipad pro.

I have had a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9” since launch and use it for college, which is exclusively note-taking. Ever since purchase, I wish it was smaller. I simply can’t use it as a consumption device for reading or videos or movies. Because of this, it is basically a note-taking device and nothing more. If you want an all-in-one device, portability and comfortability may be more important than a bigger screen since you can get more out of it, at least in my case. I still love the iPad Pro either way, though! It has been revolutionary in my education.

Jolmes Pastora you can! Well, sorta. You can use code-server to host a vscode server and connect to it from the iPad, it works surprisingly well. Only downside is you need a server to host it, but it doesn’t need much in terms of resources, could make it work with a $5/mo from linode.

I prefer the the sleeker 1.43:1 aspect ratio of the 11" vs the frumpy old 1.33:1 ratio of all the other iPads including the 12.9". It's better for watching movies (reduces letterbox effect), better for photo editing, and it's a visually more pleasing overall. The best way to improve the 11" would be to make it the same height (long side) as the 12.9" while keeping the slimmer 1.43:1 aspect ratio. That way, the 11" would get a full width folio/magic keyboard but would be still be smaller, lighter and way sleeker than 12.9". Aspect ratio is the real mojo of the 11" iPad.

I would definitely go for 12.9" one as you get a larger canvas to work on. If your an Animator , Digital Artist or Video Editor, then bigger screen is always an added advantage.
