The brain zaps are horrible. The best way I can describe the feeling of missing a dose over 1/2 days is like when you go to take a step down the stairs and you miss it but these feelings go in and out all day. I hope to one day gradually decrease from the highest dose. If you’re in a similar situation guys.. we got this. Make each day count. Life is short. We will get there. ❤

Your method is better in the long run to minimize side effects. I don't use that drug but have tapered off other meds. Tapering off over 6 to 12 months would probably be better this way the body and brain can have time to get rid of the drug from your system. So when you actually stop, your final rebound side effects won't be so harsh and scary.

Thank you for your message. These first few weeks/months are quite difficult and challenging. Unfortunately the doctors do not understand what the patient goes through and they are not qualified to support with mental health the way they prescribe for physical health. Serotonin is an ancient form of chemical communicator found in big chunk of life forms involving plants, animals and algae. They have myriad functions. Humans till now never achieved a clarity on how these systems works. Simply stopping reuptake and making available more serotonin is foolishness. The compounded effect of that on interconnected systems cannot be predicted. Many of those are permanent dysfunctions. SSRIs are utter rubbish. Modern medicine is increasingly put forwarding many hypothesis' akin to physicists, but that approach will not work with complicated still unexplored systems like brain and cns. Humans first should study more about brain and cns, then things will become more clearer. Anyway this is not the right time to market a drug like SSRIs.

I began sertraline about 7 years ago during college due to anxiety. I went from 25 to 50, then briefly to 100 before that was a bit much and I settled at 75. I've been on 75 for roughly 6 years now, and I've been great the last several years with no bad bouts of anxiety. I feel like now is as good a time as ever to taper off, but I fear if it's worth the side effects to begin the tapering process. What do you feel are the benefits of being off sertraline? I plan to talk to my doctor as well, I'm just looking for as many opinions as possible. Thank you!
@riship882 жыл бұрын
I can't really list benefits as for me, coming off sertraline was more of a personal goal and choice. To be able to manage my mental health without being on it. But as I have stated in other videos, I could have easily stayed on them for the foreseeable and that would have also been ok. It was a personal choice. If you feel you are in a position to manage without and you have built up good coping mechanisms then there shouldn't be too many hurdles. I felt some light zaps when coming off but the whole process was very slow and gradual so hardly felt it.

Ideally reduce to the lowest mg, then take alternate days, then once in 3 days and then twice a week and taper off depending on how you feel. The process may take 2-3 months. . To prevent side effects reduce negative thoughts and overthinking. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Observe your breath sensations when taking a walk, before sleep, at work, in the kitchen, when reading, etc. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a better life. Reduce negative social media, take morning sunlight walks and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes--Counsellor.

Hi Carmela. Yes I did but I was actually actively working on a weightloss programme at the same time so it wasn't noticeable. However one of the side effects of sertraline in some people is significant weight gain unfortunately.

Thanks Sergio. Yes! Daily journaling, daily gratitude lists, reading something everyday about personal development, you can do some mindfulness/meditation, listening to affirmations. Unplugged walks. Try different things and see what works for you and what fits into your routine. Dedicate 10-30 min each morning for it. Of course having a therapist, group therapy, cbt is also good to incorporate if you can.

@@oppsendless3814 Hi I would say I returned back to normal in some areas and others not. When I stopped I started to engage again, was able to cry. My cycle which had stopped suddenly even though I was n my first day (and after only 1 days pill use) returned the next month but is now much heavier. I also find that I don't react to music in the warm fuzzy way as intensely as I used to, and break out in sweats occasionally, and if anything my anxiety is a little more intense when triggered. My libido which suddenly stopped returned in the sense that I think about sex again.The main issue that I have faced has been that although I think about sex I have suffered reduced sensation, sensitivity. I know it was the sertraline as I took it just as I had started and the achy PMS achy feeling I had always experienced suddenly stopped along with my period and thoughts of intimacy which I had the days before taking the pill and always accompanied my cycle. I also noticed that my previously constant thoughts about a love interested suddenly stopped when I took the pill but has since returned. I have had several cycles since then and my achy feeling has not returned but also the reduced sensitivity has remained. I took the pills last September. SSRI's cause Pssd more than what is officially recognised. And before anyone tries to attrubute it to stress, I was not stressed. Just use to panic when in social situations. I also was not depressed however felt low and had thoughts ofnot being here in the short time I was on the pill. I understand that this is different for everyone and this is my experience.

@TalihaUAEvlogs I’m ok, I was tapering off and now not taking them anymore per doctors recommendation. The past week has been a lot better but I was struggling quite a bit. I find I’m still moving with tension but finding ways to manage it. I was on the lowest dosage, over two weeks was taking half dosage, then next two weeks every 2 days / 3 days.
@avalonwatts Жыл бұрын
@TalihaUAEvlogs I can only speak from my personal experience I suppose. I would encourage one to have emotional outlets to manage it, for me that has been playing an instrument, having a safe space to speak about my feelings with my boyfriend and having that support, and I suppose going for walks when overwhelmed. I would suggest exercising if you can, personally I couldn’t until recently again as I was having “brain zaps” which was really uncomfortable. I would also suggest therapy however I know it can cost a pretty penny. Most important is to do things which make you feel good and feel right, try keep out of stressful situations and remember your emotions may get the best of you. It’s a process, but if a professional has advised you to cut down I don’t see why not, if you are at the point of 1/4 is your goal not to come off the medication entirely anyways? Don’t be discouraged. Something which has helped me in this time is telling myself I am not the first person to go through this, in fact people taking or coming off these medications is more common than we think, videos like this are a positive reminder of that. The more you research the more you understand, keep it up and you got this. 🙌
