If I do not do things like other creators, that does not mean that I despise them and it is alright to attack them in this comment section. This is open discussion on a grey area of our community, and not a witch hunting contest. On the other side, considering that as soon as unnamed person appeared in this comment section and this discussion devolved into personal insults aimed at BOTH sides I disable this comment section for the time being.

Hi. I'd like to share some thoughts: Since I began my channel in June 2023, it has been my vision to add value to the Satisfactory community in any way that I can. 99% of the content of my channel is based on my themed playthrough and not blueprint designing or "selling". Any blueprints I've made have come as a by-product of my channel's main content. My perspective (until this video and the video's comments) has been that I'm providing the blueprints for free, the knowledge of how to make them, for free in the few videos I've made specifically on blueprints. I go into detail on how to make them yourself and answer questions and discuss possible alternatives in the comments and in my discord. All my blueprints end up being put on the blueprint index for free anyway, as others remake their own versions (as they can and should) and upload them there. The actual file itself that I made, I provide to my members as a perk, not to "sell" the blueprints, but to give some value to my members in case they don't want to take the time to make their own version or go find the free version on the repository. However, I see the points you've made counter to this perspective and I think they are valid. To be very frank, I just want to play the game, have a good time, hang out with my viewers and add value to the Satisfactory community. I'm not trying to milk every penny out of my viewers, just provide what value I can to them. The very last thing I want is any drama, or being called "gross" or having videos made about me implying I'm doing something underhanded or immoral or something that CSS should "address". I've been working on a new blueprint, one single blueprint, for, well I have no idea how many hours, but if I had to guess, probably 100+ hours on getting this one blueprint just right. I will be recording that video in a few days or so and in that video I'll address the blueprint/paywall issue and make an announcement. So watch for that if you're interested. P.S. It may not seem like it, because I purposefully don't do flashy editing, but editing down a 8 to 10 hour VOD into a 1 to 2 hour episode in a way that makes sense and doesn't leave the viewer confused, does take a lot of work. Around 20 to 25 hours a week for the edit. Around 40 to 50 hours total a week are spent getting my content out to my viewers. But I think its worth it to try to provide the best of the VOD, without the viewer having to spend 8 hours of their time to get value from it. Either way, thank you for including me in your video. 😁😁

Hey, heads up for responding! Really nice to hear other perspective. I get the point about extra perks and frankly, I myself considered this option. When I realized how may BP videos I make it was on the table. I think other way of making it still as viable perks for Patreon and YT Members is simple early access for week or two. I think this approach works quite well with "paid" mods through Patreon and include best of two worlds without crossing into grey areas to much. And oh boy I understand how it is difficult to edit long VODs. It is main reason why I swapped from longer formats back in Path of Exile days. Sometimes it is faster to script and to shoot purposely staged video elements. Finding that 10 sec moment in 1 hour of footage is... Props for good ideas with remote storage btw. I am making a version of that powered by packagers with trains and drones in January for my modular storage blueprints ;)

I believe this is a false equivalency argument which is being made, and i would take his own example of Total to use here 1) Total (like most content creators) offers twitch and youtube money things to become part of a community and support the creator 2) Blue prints just happen to be one of MANY things offered 3) You could argue these benefits are 'selling' something but then you need to argue that EVERYthing someone offers as a benefit is then selling something, like selling access to a discord? or that early release videos as a benefit are selling that release? both those are or are made with 'other peoples products', like no one 'owns' their discord 4) comparing content creators and subscription benefits to 'black market' sellers is just lazy. Maybe someone somewhere is making the argument they 'own' their bps but i dont think Total would say he 'owns' the blue prints he creates 4a) Its like saying that by buying a membership to a club that happens to have free booze means the club is 'selling' booze 4b) vs a black market seller who is selling you booze 4c) if you dont understand this social/economic/legal distinction then you have made a lazy argument 5) final point - with some many 'free' blueprints on the market then WHY would anyone in thier right mind "buy" one from a content creator? Cause any creator who has popular blueprints is usually dam good at making them and people want to pay/support that talent. There is nothing forcing anyone to buy anything but ---- you are also not entitled to someone else's creativity --- and by finishing the video with - 'dont buy what other people are selling, please buy my moral arguments instead!' shows us why you made this video. not to comment on an actual moral problem, but to stir up controversy to sell your own memberships

As a Creator that releases my blueprints for free, i think Defaming other content creators is not the way to go about it and then advertise your own memberships at their demise This could have been done better by not naming any content creator but still talking about the topic. Because the creators you have named in this video are now a visable target for some damage. What another creator does is up to them. The viewers will decide, not another creator who is, as i stated before, "Defaming them for monetary gain" Good luck with everything but this is not the way to go
@Yakez42

Hey Bitz, nice to hear from other creators! Defaming is a strong word in context of me pointing otherwise for 30+ seconds in video real estate. There is nothing inherently wrong with concept of selling blueprints at the moment. Than what to defame? This video was aimed at an open discussion of the topic. The whole tangent into black market of Path of Exile and stuff was to show that I understand reality of people trying to get by. Monetary gains from my bad joke as much of stain on me as monetizing this video then. Maybe it was a bad judgment on my part, thanks for pointing that out!

@@Yakez42 Hello again, basically what has been done here is you have placed steak (This being the 2 creators named in this video) in front of a pride of lions and not expecting them to react to it. That's a weird way of putting it 😂. I've read Kinstructions message below, and to be honest, it looks like he's been backed into a corner to defend himself and give an explanation on the matter when they should not need to. I know for a fact one of these creators is doing this full time and if this impacts their, living, mental or Financial state this then becomes Defamation. It does not matter if it was 30+ Seconds or 10 seconds, DMCA works the same way, and that is 10 seconds or less. In all honestly what I would do is remove any names mentioned in this video and Re-Upload. That's just coming from one creator to another out of respect. If this does not happen, a monetary gain is clear from your side regarding their demise on the subject and creating drama. This is my final message on the matter, I just wanted to make some things clear from one creator to another. I wish you all the best of health and keep smiling ❤
@baggins6887

I find this very disrespectful that you are naming creators, this can cause a lot of backlash to those creators. If you wanted to make a point about selling blue prints then go ahead, but no one should be named because this can cause some people to take things in the wrong light and ridicule/attack them or spread some rumors (things that try to fit the persons narrative about the situation). In all retrospect I am confused as to why this needs to be brought up in the first place. Before anyone says something i am talking about the whole controversy of things behind a paywall. Why bring something up that can stir up whole communities there are people who do it out of spite, only for financial gain (just want to make money on that alone and not the other content), and some people buy it cause they just want to support them for their work. Those other examples (i have read your comment about you going on a tangent) don’t really match with the blue prints in my opinion. My opinion about those examples is that those games that you do mention about that use the black market, or real world trade as another name that some people are familiar with, to sell items are doing it to either get the other party banned/suspended or just purely there for gatekeeping (as in having items that you will need, like monopolizing an item, or are extremely hard to get).

Blueprints are a in built feature of the game. if you create something, which has taken your time and effort into perfecting that blueprint, then why not ask for some support which then can help in the future, to produce more content. Nobody is forcing anyone to use there money, to purchase anything. I feel this video is just you trying to claim some Monetization which you are from attacking other content creators for their choices. You also then ask for support at the end of the video. Let people do what they want to do and people can make their own choices, paid or not.

Last night I received a few messages from content creators and community members alike in regards to this video, several annoyed and angry, whilst a couple were supporting your point of view and claiming that I'm as bad as someone who's pirating software from CSS. Obviously I took the time to watch your video, and after a sleepless night and having given it a lot of thought I wanted to respond to your "hot take" because though you state this is not a personal attack or witch hunt, you do mention my channel (and Kinstruction) as an example for selling blueprints (a statement which is not wholly true but we'll get to that) and you are making parralels with this as "technically illegal" and "Immoral" which is hypocritical given the response I've received (both positive and negative from the community) because that has by definition made this video Criminal defamatory libel and can be treated as a criminal offence. I'm sure this wasn't what you intended when creating this video so perhaps you'd like to discuss this over discord, I await your message. Do not take this as a threat, merely we content creators as a whole have a responsibility over the content we choose to produce and present, and I feel you have made a mistake posting this. As to your points, I was not the first, nor the largest creator to make blueprints available on Patreon and in my defence my blueprints are not behind a paywall. Again by definition "A paywall is a method of restricting access to content, with a purchase or a paid subscription" Yes, all save files for all my games including blueprints are on Patreon, but I do provide detailed video guides on how to build my blueprints if you want them for free. A detail I believe you failed to mention when associating my content with paywalls. But I have only ever strived to provide entertaining, informational content that is freely available for everyone to use. And on the subject of free content I do also run Satisfactorytips.com free for everyone to use with 0 ads, on there are save files as well as guides and we have in the past run live events promoting other content creators through that and hosting games for the community for free. The continued running for that is paid thanks to Patreon which also covers in part, the expenses for the channel, software, hardware, the hiring of video editors as well as other team members so that I'm able to put more work into providing content on the channel for free. I'm most hurt, not by your video, but by some community members who have decided to make parallels to my content being the same as pirating games, something that I openly oppose. The idea that I'm selling software that the devs have developed is atrocious and I have actively supported CSS in every way possible, bringing many of our awesome community members to this wonderful game. I do agree there is a grey area here and for the sake of me being considered an "immoral" human because of it would like to have clarified, perhaps through a video call discussion between content creators and the community managers, unfortunately the medium that you've chosen IMO was the wrong one. I do find this video as a whole very interesting though, who would serve to gain the most if all other content and blueprints were exclusively paid for? Surely the person who creates them for free, which as you've pointed out, is yourself. As a content creator I know full well that shock titles and statements to gain viewership, and taking an opposing side will gather die hard community members who feel they're being wronged but I find it even more interesting that you finish off the video stating you're starting up paid memberships on youtube it's almost the perfect marketing funnel - but unfortunately at the defamation of others. But that's just a "hot take" I guess.

Hey Total, thanks for taking your time and responding! I know that things like this does not come easily and take quite the mental toll. But well this is a life of a creator, we all know. While maybe this feels manipulative on my part... but the phrase *"On the one hand we have technically illegal and immoral deed, but on the other hand we are helping out struggling content creators"* works both ways. When people think one way or another it is a product of cultural norms and established rules. And we or CSS never established those with Satisfactory blueprints. This is what this video about. I never said that selling blueprints is inherently bad. I have explained how much effort actually goes into video creation. And I have implied that black markets of other games are quite often coexist with a game quite fine. If you think that I say that selling blueprints is immoral or criminal offence, well maybe, this is what is on your mind regardless the topic? I do not see how public blueprint instructions and blueprint being sold are the same things. First is instruction, second is finished digital good. They are aimed at different player types for sure. You can sell or provide for free either of them, regardless the existence of any counterpart. They are practically separate. Saying that technically you provide digital good for free via public instructions is just corporate double speak. Sorry, this is not hot take. For example, providing instruction on how to make video editing software is not equal to providing this software for free. Regardless my chosen format. Well sorry, I am just a Russian. And we just yolo into things, regardless the consequences or results. I have no regrets about that, I am not the kind of person who would backpedal and delete something when I have already said something. This is not a mistake on my part. I want answers, I hit stuff with tools at my disposal... I know this sounds as truly barbaric. On the civilized note. This video was exactly aimed to hear wider response from all the parties involved. And while it can seem as me creating unnecessary drama, well it gets the job done. If not for me, than someone else would eventually raise this topic. Lets say I hate drama more than one can even imagine. No amount of internal agreements can work in terms of wider community when new channels and creators pops out on monthly basis. CSS position, if any, should be public. If there would be any discussion with CSS, I am glad to be part of it. I do not use Discord on daily basis, but I can use Discord if it is necessary. Anyone can reach me through my YT business e-mail for Discord handles or WatsApp number. Can take some time for me to check tho.

Selling blueprints is fine, so long as you are selling the convenience. Everyone has a blueprint designer in their game. Showing off how to make a blueprint and then selling the finished product is perfectly fine. You're not selling something actually scarce, you're just selling someone's time. Give away the information for free (how to make it), sell the implementation (finished blueprint)

The practice in general has shown to be a pretty lame model. The market traditionally takes advantage of whales. Further, CSS charges at most $40 for the entire game, for the thousands and thousands of hours of development and you think you're really doing right by the world paying some thirsty patreon KZbin guy a monthly fee for his reinforced plates blueprint? Yikes dude. I'd ask you if you were maxing out your retirement account contributions before making frivolous blueprint subscriptions but i already know you don't even know what I'm talking about lmao

The best communities I've ever been part of had a real collaborative communal atmosphere. People happy to share every trick they learn with the community so everyone can benefit. Modders happy to allow anyone to use their content to make other mods or mods of the mod. Everyone just freely sharing and collaborating because the goal was the make the entire game and community better, not stoke egos, establish hierarchies, or try to monetize and hustle.

This is one of those things that is specific to Satisfactory creators and its basically no different than selling mods for a game. Suffice it to say, when I discovered that *certain* KZbinrs that may or may not be named in this video were doing this, I immediately un-subbed from their channels and asked KZbin not to recommend me their videos. This is a scummy practice and the people doing it should be ashamed of themselves doing it when other people on the internet are getting flamed off the internet for having the gall to try and sell their mods. They should be sweating right now because the spotlight is on them now. Thank you for finally saying something about this.

Totally agree. Another similar case(?), I played modded Skyrim before, there're some mods behind paywall, which is fine for me, just like Yakez said "You are selling your expertise". However, there're some modpacks, which contains various mods from various creators, are also behind paywall even he/she who create modpack didn't create a single mod inside that modpack. This is just selling other ppl hardwork, but you can buy that modpack for saving your time finding mods and solving mod conflict. Skyrim is also a single player game, you can also play it without mod. Still, Satisfactory blueprint is made by your own, sure you can call this selling your "designing skill". And still, I can just copy your design -IF I CAN FIGURE OUT HOW YOU SNAP THAT BEAM INSIDE THAT WALL.- I hope CoffeeStains Studio can see this and address this issue. And as always Yakez thank you for sharing your blueprint for free and making great video. Even though I finished Satisfactory while ago, I still like watching your video and see your amazing blueprint.

I guess I understand why other creators are eager to monetize their channels by selling blueprints, but I don't understand why other people purchase them. Satisfactory is a game where you design and build stuff. Why pay someone else to do the core aspects of the game for you? Your channel is by far my favorite satisfactory channel because I feel like you treat your viewers like adults. Other creators make a lot of videos that are just simple "here's something i built, now copy it" whereas you present new methodologies and design philosophies that have given me a new, exciting and fun playstyle for a game that is very easy to get burnt out on. Even if my building style is a lot less compact and efficient than yours, you've introduced ideas and philosophies that anyone can integrate into their builds. Many other creators just make list-style videos that cover the same tips and tricks every other creator discusses. You get straight into high level, conceptual thinking that is appropriate for engineering games. Dekoba does a pretty good job of this as well. I feel like most other creators make content more suitable for young adults, with the stereotypical youtuber voice that I can't stand. Thanks for doing something different!

I think buying or using other peoples blueprints just ruins your own game experience and learings about the game. you connect two belts to a factory in and out and dont even know whats inside this module. In satisfactory is no need to rush anyways you can just relax and enjoy the game. In my case i just rebuild your biowaste module for example and was really having fun to see a new aspect of the game after hundrets of hours squeezing machines into a 4x4 square. and it worked out in the end. Finally i think selling blueprints doesnt help the game at all. Getting inspiration from creators is a good thing, but satisfactory gives you all the freedom to play and build how you like with no time limit even if you have no high end mega factory. Greatings 😊

I do take note from the vids to see how its done, but then go tinker in the blue printer myself to find out what works for me. If people want to use blue prints from the internet, there already were whole free databases of entire factories before the blue printer became an ingame object. People using blue prints as an extra incentive for viewers to become paying members? I dont see the harm in it. I just see it as the content creator saying "thank you for the membership, take these blue prints as a token pf appreciation". You can perfectly play the game without them and no one will call you a noob for doinv so. Me, I just watch the channels and keep my hard earned cojn in my own pocket regardless of what is on offer. 😉 Keep up the good work and don't worry to much about what other content creators do.

I feel like using blueprints as an incentive to get a paid subscription for example isn't a problem as long as either the CC shares the knowledge/though process behind the blueprint's creation. Share the recipe, sell the cake in a way. Or it's an extra special blueprint made for paying customers and not your run of the mill every day blueprint.

I mean, I don't really see an issue with selling something that you created. The argument that "you didn't make the game, so it's not yours to monetize" is redundant when you are already using the game to create videos that are monetized. But what I don't understand is why anyone would use another persons blueprints, free or otherwise. The entire point of the game is to build factories. There isn't even an ending yet, so you just endlessly build to your hearts content, so why would you choose to take the gameplay away from yourself by using premade factories? If you don't want to build factories, why are you playing the game? And if you are willing to spend money, then wouldn't it be better spent on a game you actually want to play?

This is certainly an interesting topic as those content creators engaging in the practice of making $ by selling "their work" in a game that they didn't make is certainly questionable at best. I've only downloaded free blueprints and saves and have made sure to "repay" the creators with likes and subscriptions. Some would might argue it's not "fair value" but then again when you upload videos to someone else's platform (KZbin) and promote yourself using content that you didn't create (in this case Satisfactory) and seek to make a living doing it, you knowingly tread the path of possibly becoming the proverbial "starving artist". The idea of artistic patronage is over 700 years old and I can see how it can be both a positive and negative, but in the end if you "don't make it" then you need to accept it and move on. I myself very nearly started down this path but in a moment of honesty and clarity, realized that it wasn't for me in the long run. In any case, ultimately Coffee Stain will have to address this issue one way or the other and it will be interesting to see what they do. Until they do the saying "silence gives consent" applies.

The thing about selling is it doesn't deny me the capacity to play the game or to create blueprints of my own. The only people affected are the ones making a monetary exchange. If CSS tied the game to monetary exchange being necessary, THEN I'd have a problem.

Great info here! Definitely agree that CSS needs to address this issue. And I can't wait to see if they release 1.0 on February 30th. 🤣

I feel like buying blueprints is more of a mechanism for supporting your parasocial relationship of choice. Given the nature of the game it's entirely optional. Coffee Stain has gone on record saying that they want players to play the game in any way so long as it's fun. If supporting your favorite content creator and benefitting from someone else's talent and time (skilled labour?) is someone's choice, then I see no moral or monetary problem with buying blueprints.

I really don't know what to say. Satisfactory blueprint is not a product i what to buy and i think that i can make something similar to the shown in the video, if I want to. I mean, I spending most of my time in game enjoying zipline and exploration, and for doing beautiful stuff I have my brother. Also my computer is no longer strong enough for Satisfactory and I returned to the factorio. My opinion is unless it was made in game and don't adding new gameplay options i will not but it, probably. Satisfactory is a game on it's own and does not need something else to function. Так, я опять какую-то околесицу несу. I don't see the devil and I will not buy something like that. Sort of similar to the opinion in the video.

I don’t mind if there is a video on how to build a BP then at the end saying you can grab it for $$. I’d rather build it myself anyway

Indeed they are! Just have all my old books in the dads country house and have no real place to put shelves. PC setup technically taking up all the space on the "free wall". Also walking closets are usually an audio dream, but have none of that xD
