I respect your point but I do disagree with one part. 2:46 in DDLC+ we know way more about Yuri then freaking Sayori. Personally I don't get why Yuri's obvious crippling anxiety disorder is never given even half as much focus as Sayori's depression in mods. The mods where you help Yuri by stopping her self-harm tendencies often miss that it's a coping mechanism for her overwhelming anxiety and it's just kind of the tip of the iceberg of her problems.

According to me too, although it doesn’t show how incredibly close Sayori is to 1st. She is a VERY close second to Natsuki. I absolutely LOVE both of their personalities, backstories, and character designs! Taking just the first two factors into account I’d say they are actually equal, but with character design, short stature and small breasts are my type, so Natsuki just eeks out a win for that.

Fellow Yurian here, she's my favourite actually because I struggle/used to struggle with the same stuff, so I found her to be the most relatable character in all of media basically, but most mods never really get it right and simplify her down to "big boobs goth anime girl" which is just painful to see.

As a Natsukian, I agree. Primarily with the vampires statement, but yes, even I agree that Yuri gets shafted whenever mods portray her. I may prefer small boobs over big one, cute over mature, and sweet over sexy, but I would like for Yuri to actually get some good portrayal in mods. I'm gonna be completely honest, I TRY to like all the dokis and not favor any over the others... but I agree with you, I don't HATE Yuri, but she's been the closest I have to a least favorite, for basically the same reasons you said. (Not being much to her character compared to the others, she gets inaccurately represented often, also as much as it pains me to say this, the others can just be cuter at times-) Not to say she's a bad character, because she isn't at ALL, but compared to another character like Natsuki or Monika, i'm not exactly jumping to play a mod about her.

Honestly I agree with pretty much all of this. So many mods are able to nail the other girls in terms of their character (Monika being my personal favorite in mods like DDLC Summertime or DDLC Purist) but I haven’t seen many mods that can expand Yuri into an interesting character that’s different that what I’ve already seen in the base game. Although Natsuki is my least favorite Doki, I still feel that her character is at its best in mods where she’s portrayed as a toxic, manipulative bitch, like in Exit Music or Triple Trouble. It takes her “tsundere” character and expands it into a type of personality that almost everyone has encountered at least once before in the real world. I think the reason people aren’t able to do this for Yuri is because her character isn’t really existent outside of “psychopathic Yandere knife fetish woman”

Ok, even if Yuri is my favorite character i kinda understand if we're talking about the Yuri from the mods. Most of the mods use the canon information about the dokis and her history, like Sayori depression and his friendship with MC, or Natsuki personality as a consequence of the bad things his father does. In case of Yuri, we don't know so much about his history, we only know that she's shy and loves books basically. no before history, nothing. There isn't too much to talk about her, and that is probably the reason a lot of mods can't give her a properly character personality, or give her the "yandere" trait or simply forgetting about her. In my case, is my favorite character because I like how she looks, how in some cases we can get interesting and good histories with her (Outcast, fallen angel and our castle walls being a good example) and for being a character i can relate to. At the end you're just giving an opinion and its ok, we can have different choices and even if you have your point i'm gonna disagree this time, just expecting this doesn't means less videos about yuri focused mods. D:

So she's either just there, being one dimensional, or it's a complete character assassination and she ends up doing something almost completely weird but oh its in character cause she's a yandere and crazy- like...no? What? No.. I used to feel this way about natsuki as well because of exit music redux. I hated her character so much cause she's such a brat and always closed in. I've heard your arguments and yes, yuri does tend to have darker paths, But that alone makes her more enjoyable to playthrough her routes. (She is not even my favorite, Sayori is.) But her routes tend to be the most rewarding, I have played numerous mods with all four routes for the girls and yuri's is usually the most enjoyable, with many of the other girls routes yes, it is great to help them but with yuri it feels like that she needs even more effort to fix then the others. There is a large reason why yuri has a large fan base and it's because she is that socially awkward bookworm that can't express herself and has doubts about herself constantly, There have been mods where i have taken someone else's route but still feel bad for yuri. But regardless, Your opinion is your own and i offer my humble opinion. PS. SNAFU yuri is adorable, Change my mind.

I'd suggest studying her character to get why people misunderstand her so much. I always wondered why I don't like Yuri compared to the other three even after playing some fangames/mods and after watching this vid I realized why. Although I found Monika to be really overrated as a character, this is where I give her credit. Her character peaks at mods like Salvation remake where they kept her epiphany shtick in the base game and fleshed her out to a more sympathetic character. Other mods like Vigilante and Foreign relations also managed to write Monika creatively even without giving her the epiphany. The only mods that I think gave Yuri's character justice are Blue skies and outcast and even then they're just the bare minimum of what they could do with her.

Personally for me, yuri is my favourite and I agree with you. Mod do not represent her correctly at all. The mods that do her justice are blue skies and outcast (these are what I can think of). They shed the light on her anxiety and self hatred aspect too and what self harm actually stems from. I haven't played a lot of mods but I absolutely hate the mods that just make her into a psychopath knife fetish person n stuff. People just can't get over that fact that act 2 yuri isn't actually yuri, heightened impulses makes you a completely different person since you lose your reasoning. I can especially say that since I recently played side stories of ddlc+ and I can appreciate all the characters a lot more. So mod creators need to look out for yuri more man. Stop fetishizing her

FR, most of the times we getting a lot of sexualized mods about Yuri specifically, that's why there isn't a lot of good histories about her. A lot of people just like Yuri for other reasons than the character.

I think a big problem with Yuri in mods stems from the way Act 2 changes everybody. Sayori and Monika get such dramatic changes that it creates a really good launching platform for what if scenarios (what if sayori didn't die, what if the player stayed with Monika in act 3, what is Monika like without her knowledge of the fourth wall, what is Sayori like when she isn't forcing herself to act happy, etc.) That creates a LOT of opportunities for modders to do interesting things with the two of them. Natsuki and Yuri get their personalities changed in act 2, and the game forces us down Yuri's path. Natsuki doesn't really get a lot of attention, leaving most mods to bounce off of the stuff introduced in act 1 or to create new content. In contrast, Yuri gets a huge spotlight, and the extremes she shows in obsessiveness and cutting onions naturally leave a huge impact. That leads to most people who think about Yuri to immediately think about those extremes while forgetting a lot of her nuances. How many mods focus on how sexy Yuri's obsessiveness can be, or saving her from her self harm tendencies? Now compare that to how many mods focus on her social anxiety and how talking about her interests helps her to bypass that. Yuri's character in the originally game js deep and nuanced, but I think a lot of content created for DDLC (especially higher effort projects like mods) ends up focusing on what's memorable about Yuri because of the focus she gets in act 2 without having an entire paradigm-shift level of change like Sayori or Monika. In a similar vein, that's why so many of the more well known mods focus on Sayori or Monika (like Salvation for Sayori or any of the act 3 continuation mods). In other words. I like Yuri a lot, but I agree with your video.

Honestly this is the opposite of me. I try to like her genuinely but natsuki.. I'm not even trying to dislike her character she is just like every other tsundere.. while all of the other characters have a personality she has just this one base one where it's like " ew! A boy? Okay, my opinion this is the best character she is timid, and it makes her appearance match well with her, and well she is based she is very good at her skills.. it's not just about me liking her, she is very quiet unlike the others who are more social than her and I guess a little more thoughtful of things. Monika, she is the also once of the least.. not the worst natsuki isn't either, but she shows absolute no emotion than all of a sudden wants MC because everyone else does?

Gotta say I agree with most of the points here. When it comes to Yuri I actually liked her the most at first - not for her design or her character, but because I just shared an interest in fantasy. The issue with mods regarding her character essentially boils down to the fact that they took her character and got it all wrong - often she's depicted as some horror loving weirdo when in the original (before Monika makes her go batshit insane) the others don't expect that. When it came to the official game I still held her the highest, but in mods.... nahhh. When DDLC+ came out, however, I can't say it did her favours. All the characters were now officially fleshed out besides Yuri, with the only new things about her being that "she has online friends and she likes nature", both of which being so redundant that everybody and their mum would ignore it when writing her character in a mod. That being said I would still love to see Yuri's route for Undercurrent if you wouldn't mind, because it seems like there's more to her in that one.

Hell from various mods I have seen that aren't horror-based or following a sequel spin-off mod, the self-harm becomes a later plot later on as you grow with her from the start, that really expands her such as Blue-Skies and Our Castle Walls. Yuri has god-awful anxiety and clinical depression and has been bullied severely as an example would be a far more understandable reason than just "oh she tries it" One has more weight and depth for a reason than the other. Solid recommendation DDLC The Struggle from Yandere Gaming. Outside of baiting, I feel like you're just not really actually critiquing or dissecting the character. But again I do agree there are not enough mods that fairly execute a far thorough expansion with routes but there are SOLID MAIN STORIES. TLDR: To, Kanemonger Yuri is more complex than she seems to be, but there aren't as many golden stories as they should equally like the others.

Oh, I understand you. I mean, I don't hate her, I like her but as a friend in the game and mods. I always love playing Monika's mods since she's like my favorite (because she deserves some love and care), then Sayori's, then Yuri's and lastly Natsuki's. But what I find a little irritating is when the MC is dating for example Natsuki (Exit Music) or Monika (Doki Doki Within and World of Dreams Act 2) she gets really obssesive, insistent and jealous of them. Same with Sayori, but only she gets jealous of any of the 3 girls of the club because she IS the MC childhood friend and knew him for so long. What I always understand is: girls don't have to be jealous of a girl in a relationship with a boy. They have to support them, not get jealous and take the boy away from the chose one. Because if they don't support that type of relationship, then that means tha they are so out of their minds. Like they lost it. That just my longer opinion, but you know what I mean. Again, I don't hate Yuri, I consider her as a friend in the game. Since I love Monika.

I have always felt in a bind between Yuri and Natsuki for which girl is the Silver Medal (Gold will always be Sayori) and I have to admit that the whole "knife-wife" issues Yuri has is really a bit of a turn off indeed: There is something that is visceral and unpleasant about Yuri that combined with her rather meek demeanor pants the picture of someone who not only has deep running problems, but also is weak of character. And this tends tooverpower both her external appeal and more tender side of her personality. It also doesnt help that her problems are given a lot of validation and are seen as somewhat quirky part of her personality as a "loner" or "outsider" (insert slew of mods that exploit this concept) and that is part of problem: Not many mods do the elgwork to try and humanize Yuri outside of her issues or being a stereotype emo-bookworm hybrid.

This is a late response but you're not the only one who doesn't like Yuri. Of the four girls, Yuri is my least favorite character in DDLC. Part of this has to do with her being a yandere. While she does the trope quite well in the game, it doesn't really fit to well with her character as a shy introverted and socially awkward person. She is also very flat in the beginning as many of her traits can be found in the usual stereotype of the shy love interest which is pretty shopworn considering the number of games that use it. Additionally, she comes off as rather capable and independent in comparison to Natsuki and Sayori so I usually don't feel compelled to help her unless it's very obvious that she needs help. While Monika is also capable and independent, her role as the club president gives her a whole load of responsibilities, encouraging us to reach out, sympathize, and help her even though she might not need it in the first place. It is also because of Yuri's independence, that some of us end up skipping her story and saving her for later as many of us could guess how her story will be like up until she becomes a yandere. In my opinion Monika, Sayori, and Natsuki are a lot more interesting to play around with as Monika is a main character and it's obvious that the MC had a crush on her from the moment they met while Sayori is the MC's childhood friend who, despite being very unreliable, is still entertaining and a person that we can easily sympathize with. Natsuki on the other hand, lacks a lot of character development(even Dan himself regrets this part) and we don't really get to see a darker version of her in the actual game. However, it's because of her lack of development that makes her such an interesting character as it allows many of us to shape and portray her the way we want to unlike the other characters. To some she can come off as very childish while others, secretly more mature. The addition of her backstory also makes playing around with her character more fun as it compels us to give her aid in various mods and later one choose how you want your new friendship with her to expand. Compare that to Yuri, it's difficult to move her away from her original characterization without breaking her completely. She needs help but also doesn't look like she needs it, making it quite difficult to try and interact with her as if you wanted her to be with you. To conclude, Yuri is the embodiment of the "perfect" independent character I don't mean like Monika and her powers in the game. Because of this, she isn't very interesting and there is little to no reason for us to take an interest in her other than the fact that she is a part of a good game. I know a lot of fans are gonna hate this, but this is my personal interpretation of Yuri. She certainly isn't the worst girl out there but she is certainly not my most favorite from DDLC.

Yuri to me is that kind of character that has only two things going on: She likes to cut and her "posture", that is literally Yuri's entire character, because her being shy is just it, like, Natsuki is arrogant because she has an inferiority complex, and tries to "look like the best" to make people think that she is, in fact, the best, while Sayori is always so happy and stuff to make people not see her depression and everything else, and Monika just tries to be the most perfect person of the world to make us fall for her, but Yuri is just shy for the sake of being shy, and other than that, she just cuts, gets obsessed, and has a "posture". No one can do anything else with her, because there is nothing else to do, her only thing in mods is "trying to make her stop cutting", and nothing more. Either way, she is just boring, but of course, she has a "posture", and that is the only reason as to why SO MANY HORNY PEOPLE CHOOSE HER PATH. It reached a point where i started hating her simply for not being able to take everyone choosing her route, while Nat was there, alone, starving, and Sayo there, alone, with no one to help her 😢
