I have been working on leaving my dog, but I get a few feet and he keeps breaking. Been quite clingy. So use a back retrieve to train it. Makes total sense. We will see how it goes. Thanks!!

After a lifetime of different breeds I now have a springer. The penny just dropped! Molly has always responded to sit with maximum enthusiasm, but stay, wait etc require reinforcement / correction. Why bother with anything other than sit. Thanks for the tips. (From an old dog learning a new trick).

My pup now 6m still bolts on the lead. I've tryed constant training, not too dissimilar to your drill. She will pull to the point of couching as she won't something she's seen. I've tryed different leads to the point none are better for her to respond to. I now find of very hard to get her to do any bassic training.

Can you link to that slip long line? I’ve got a 6 month springer and been using 5m longline but it’s not as good as yours. And it’s a nightmare for getting knotted and heavy when wet. Great video. Thanks

Only just found your channel and feel I must tell you how much I'm enjoying watching you train your dogs, thank you. I have an 8 year old cocker spaniel who is a good lad, I've never formally trained him but he seems to know automatically, with encouragement, what is required of him on our daily walks. He comes from working stock but is my pet. However, I'm now using some of your commands and he's enjoying your training too. I have a quick question for you, please? Why are gun dogs encouraged to jump up for fuss when they've done a retrieve? Is it that gun dogs and pets are treated differently in that respect? My dog isn't allowed to jump up.

When I'm doing very formal retrieves which are quite strict. I want to keep the end part quite fun so that the drills are not too pressured all the way through. Also teaching your dog to sit with a retrieve at the beginning it can be to much pressure, hence why encourage them up onto my lap to keep the return fun and enjoyable
