E10 and E85 will both absorb water, E85 can hold more water in suspension since there's more ethanol. With either variant, once you get enough water in it you'll have what's called phase separation where the water/alcohol blend will fall to the bottom leaving pure gasoline above it. Without ethanol the water falls to the bottom all alone. The advantage of having ethanol in the fuel is that small amounts of water in the tank will get suspended in the fuel so it'll get burned away instead of accumulating in the tank and filters, but the suspended water might cause damage throughout the injection system.

Good in theory but. There are aftermarket kits to purposely inject water into diesel engines which proves that low volumes do nothing to some actual good. Winter deicing additives are typically ethanol, methanol or Isopropyl alcohol based and are designed to do exactly what the ethanol does by suspending and then diluting the water into the greater volume of fuel. As for my own experiments over the years with running used oil and E85 blends, about 70 - 90% oil to 10 320% E85 (Depends on the oil I am working with and average ambient temps) works very well, but like all other fuels everything needs to be dewatered and clean to begin with.

You’re talking about water/methanol injection which injects into the cold side intercooler piping to create a denser charge in the manifold. WAY different than having water go through your injectors and high pressure fuel pump. Hence why diesels have water separators.

Ethanol is garbage it’s hydrophilic by nature so anything you mix it with also becomes more absorbent. An guess what Diesel engines hate more then a light load? Water in the fuel 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Good info. Curious; In your blend cocktail, i.e., 70% WMO, 20% gas, 10% diesel. What do you feel the 10% diesel contributes to the mix?
@CUTTERUPROB2 жыл бұрын
I found that the burn is a bit cleaner

I also mix in some diesel when running WVO in winter as the anti gelling agents prevent the oil from waxing up. Otherwise in summer I run WVO with 20% gas.

Hydro diesel runs 20% water in diesel wuth no problems and up 50%better miledge! Question does the e85 separate if there is more water in fuel will it still mix with diesel!!

I have never heard of hydro diesel

what about running an E85 + black diesel in a gas engine?

I'd imagine E85 would cause titration reaction with used motor oil resulting in producing something like glycerin.
@CUTTERUPROB Жыл бұрын
Not from the testing I have done. But depends on the additives the E has in it I would think
@DeathReaper-bl6kj2 ай бұрын
Not how that works buddy, transesterification only works with plant and animal fat oil (triglycerides) or lipids and titration is an test to see how acetic an medium is.

Does diesel absorb water? when i first got my truck stripped it down to repair and paint the frame and the fuel in the tank looked just like that ethanol with the water, a yellowish lemonaide cloudy mixture, but the previous owner wasnt running anything other than diesel in the truck.. not sure if he was getting it all at the station or was using a slip tank that was allowing the water in
@CUTTERUPROB2 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t really take on water. But you will get a water in the fuel system for tanks. So with out conditioners and filters being chanced you can have water damage pretty easy

What if I just don't put water in my e85 but I don't know if it would do the same once mixed with the oil and i have pulled ethanol out of the e10 at the pump with water so will it separate from the rest of the solution but I do think if you can run e85 like a flex vehicle it's good every once in a while incase there is some moisture in your tank it will pull it out
@CUTTERUPROB Жыл бұрын
Issue for me is if you have water in the oil the e85 with hold on to it and not let it drop out.
@james10739 Жыл бұрын
@CUTTERUP ROB I mean you add the fuel after letting it settle right so isn't that when any water will settle out and if it's from any water in your tank it will just go thru the motor with slightly less power and or efficiently but probably not even noticeable if so you probably have way to much water in your system
@CUTTERUPROB Жыл бұрын
@@james10739 you can use it. If everything is good and dry. Just for me as e85 and gas is the same price and not many places around to buy it from

It's only like $0.15 cheaper a gallon than 87 but the stations are not convenient for me I was just saying
