Camouflaged clothes work along with the proper tactics. One tactic I used when deer hunting on the ground sitting near a tree was using piles of pine straw as a make shift barrier to hide me and hopefully my smell too. I'm serious.

Great points! Finally, someone else said it! Hunting clothes are overrated, except for performance gear for Out West and then mainly just great hiking boots, socks and pants that are elastic and breathable. Before I backpacked hunted in the mountains every year i argued that any clean clothes and good boots for the cold were all you needed in WI. It amazed me how my buddies wasted their money on the latest camo at skimped on more important hunting accessories like decent arrows or stands, ect.

I think a main thing to keep in mind is the shade. If you’re wearing black in the snow you will stand out. If you have white, it doesn’t matter if it’s in checkers, stripes or polka dots, the white in it is the important part. I think olive green, medium brown and gray are all decent options besides camo and plaids.

I WATCHED THIS A FEW DAYS AGO BUT IM BACK TO SAY the points you made are pretty good. The one thing that blew my mind was realizing that camo patterns matter more from what we see at a distance then from what we see up close. I FINALLY realized this the other day when i walked up on to a copper head and i didn't even realize it till i was right up on it about 3 feet away in the middle of the trail. The pattern i felt that broke up the most was that old military style and then i realized that this copperhead kind of had this bold design as well it reminds me of some of the SITKA camo styles. if you have never seen a cooper head befor the pattern is so simple but so affective from a distance.. would make since to keep hidden from birds

Like many others have stated, the important thing is a favorable wind and not letting deer catch you moving. That being said, I've had some amazing experiences while wearing Predator Camo. On several occasions in the mountains of Idaho, I've had deer as close as ten yards "look right through me" as I stood in plain sight on the ground. They didn't even stare at me as some sort of object, they just kept on scanning past me. I was impressed! That was back in the late 1980's and I still hunt with Predator today. ASAT would probably produce the same effect.

@Northanteus10 ай бұрын
@@manlyhallresearch9785 Yeah, camouflage, whether in city or country is important for selfdefense. In city, you want basic colors, not woodland camo - be 'the gray man'. 😉 That is not for hunting, of course. Just don't stick out as a prepper in the city, or they will target you when something goes down. In the woods, you'll want greens and browns. It's good to know your area and color changes all year round. Have clothing that fits colors in summer, fall, winter, spring. If the area you're in has no evergreens and winter hits, there's going to be a lot of brown when the leaves fall off the trees, so have mainly brown colored winter clothing, just as an example. What people should carry is paracord (and multitool, knife, etc.). If your colors are not camo enough in the woods, tie loops (not too tight) of paracord around your arms, legs, chest, hips, etc. and start stripping some fresh branches off trees around you with lots of leaves and put them through the cord loops to be on-the-spot camo.😁 See those bright green leaves in this guys video above? Those would be sticking out of the cord loops if I was there. Amazing how the most simple things could be the most effective, but people aren't taught how to think outside of the box, lest those corporations not make much money selling you those expensive suits. 😉

Not even most gun hunters have this issue as some for deer just go all the hunter orange in the deepest coldest weather and are fine, same for the guys hunting birds/ducks they often use vests in addition to the mandated hats in Hunter Orange especially when hunting with others but not in a group.

Wearing different colors for hat, jacket, vest, trousers, and boots helps. Coyote hat, green middle, brown or tan trousers, leather boots. I switched to a light weight mesh Leafy jacket and hat and its a game changer for me. I can wear anything under the leafy jacket and when I hunted in August I just wore a light poly green shirt and threw my leafy jacket on. If its cold I throw a fleece and puffy on and the leafy jacket on top. If its going to rain I throw a cheap Cabelas rain jacket on and then throw the leafy jacket on over that and it has worked perfectly. I shove the leafy boonie hat in the leafy jacket pocket and its its own system. In one pocket I have the hat and the other I have gloves and I am covered for just about anything and I can stop buying expensive camo. The bottom line is every thing is cheaper without camo. I ordered the leafy jacket one size up and I shot a turkey with it, hunted Elk with it and will be going on a few Bear trips and Deer trips in the later seasons.

I was thinking of maybe getting Kuiu vest in Verde camo for my area, but like a lot of hunters, they sucker you in on "blending in" with the background. I think you're right with the Visas camo. Why did you spend that money on Sitka for rifle season” All questions I get. It’s all about perspective and not judging people for what they choose. I was bored getting creative as a teen feeling my blue jeans were maybe a visual giveaway. As an adult, my main choice for any hunting or just doing out of season reconnaissance is a leopard frog spots pattern that uses tan with brown and black spots all over it. I can sit in my scentlok revenant with nothing but a baselayer and stay nice and warm when its in the 20s with wind. I dont need to even worry about any layering.

The 2 worst colors to wear hunting is blue and the worst is solid black ! I have some snow camo with big black willow trunk and limbs on snow white. Absolutely makes me invisible in plain sight to all animals and to people as well. But it's the bold realistic color and total outline break-up that does it.

I was thinking about getting a Camo hunting jacket instead of (again) olive drab. In Europe this “the new thing amongst hunters”. After seeing your video I will stick to olive drab. Looks nicer too when I am on the dog training field in my opinion. Thanks for this informative video!

Some others have said it on here already, but I agree with them Predator camo needs to be thrown in with kuiu and ASAT. It just like colors and patterns of fishing lures....they are designed to catch the eye of the user. When in real life it's the moverment or vibration that really matters in & fishing. Solid muted colors work for deer hunting, just eliminate the movement and scent and they will walk up to your knees.

I have shot close to 2 dozen deer in blue jeans. never been busted. I dont wear jeans anymore as I need more pockets! so now it khakis aor grey or green cargo pants. But never had a problem in blue. as a matter of fact if you watch my missouri hunting vlog form this year I killed a small buck by stalking it for a couple hours in crunchy dry oak leaves in a bright blue t shirt with a pack, stand and sticks on my back the whole time. Shot that deer at 18 yards if i remember right.

I appreciate the honesty and I trust your opinion but in my experience certain camo does work better than solid colored clothing. I've been on the ground 10 feet from adult does in my full camo and they had no idea I was there. Been in similar situations in solid colored clothes and they seemed to pick me out without me moving at all and wind in my favor.

In my personal opinion asat, predator, the kuiu pattern I show are the best out there for fooling animal eyes. But as you can see in the video no of it really makes much difference. Great video!!! finally someone debunking the camo industry propaganda. I'm 51 a traditional bowhunter and never wear camo always have success. Plus I do not use the BS scent concealment either, I store all my clothes in a burlap sack filled with leaves, dirt, twigs and such outside. In my opinion we're in the instant gratification culture and quick fix all. My dad my grandpa never worked camo either all or bowhunters always had success. it's all just a money grab for gullible hunters. I'm with you on the ultraviolet I don't wash any of my clothes that I hunt in, in detergents that enhance colors. Baking soda does the trick every time and there's other ways to wash your clothes as well. So for all you hunters out there don't fall for the hunting industries advertising poppycock to steal your money.

Some good points worth thinking about Jason, and I know when I first started hunting Vermont during gun season, the majority of hunters uses black & green plaid wool outfits! They killed a lot of deer and especially big bucks just like the Benoit family! But I love my closet full of camo, even have some Kiui too. My wife likes to say I own so much camo so the deer don't recognize me the next time I'm out!

I've been in many situations that make me think it doesn't matter what you wear deer don't see depth and they don't see color (from what I hear only blue) if you're standing in front of a tree all they see is a blob.
