Nuance is between doing and having the ability to. At the end of the day, no matter how much you make, you have to spend less to not go dead broke. There are examples of athletes that made millions and lost them in a relatively short amount of time. His point is not of frugality, but of spending wisely on things that are useful and/or retain value, instead of spending money "just because I can afford it" (but don't actually need it and/or it's overpriced strictly targeting people like me) 5:53

While I agree with the overall sentiment of the video, a good watch can truly enhance your life, especially in business settings. It adds a refined and professional touch to your appearance, and women often notice these subtle details. You don’t need to spend a fortune-a budget of around a thousand dollars or pounds can get you a high-quality watch from brands like Tissot, Longines, Seiko, Hamilton, or Corniche. These watches not only look more expensive than they actually are to non-experts (which is most women) but also serve you well for years. Not wearing a watch at all might make you seem unrefined or less punctual. While everyone has their preferences, investing in an upmarket brand can make a significant difference. You don’t need a crazy Rolex, but having something stylish and professional-looking is definitely worthwhile.

That's why common advice for startup founders is to charge for their services from the jump. It's hard to recover when you offer it for free and then have people pay for it. the difference between flying first class and buying a watch is that watches can be an actual investment which, with a bit of due diligence, can even appreciate in value. P.S. Just heard you use renting cars/watches as an example and for that i have to agree, renting a depreciating asset is moronic. You rent an apartment or a fancy camera you need for a one time thing.

To be fair some watches are a fantastic investment - the waiting list for a Rolex Submariner for example, the waiting list is long enough that as soon as you get it it’s worth double what you paid for it as soon as you collect it All about context I guess, most watches aren’t really like that
