@@marcuscardacus4994 no wonder we have similar taste in collecting. Cone, Banks, Berra, etc are big in my collection for sure. Cone was probably my favorite pitcher as a kid as well. That's awesome you played competitively into college!

Hi Aaron. I hope you are doing well and thank you for yet another awesome video. I was not tracking the auction you discuss on the Home Run Derby sale, but I am glad you filled me in and talked about it to bring the issue to light and to share your perspective. I think you are spot on and admire how you can turn something unfortunate into an opportunity to learn by sharing your enormous knowledge (along with some pretty awesome Banks cards - he has no bad cards IMO). Shill bidding can hurt new collectors which hurts the hobby because collecting is about having fun and feeling like you own something that has a meaning to you and was worth the cost. Typically, experienced buyers will be savvy to the game being played in such an auction but in order to grow the community we need new collectors. When auctions go bad in this way it can easily cause buyer's remorse in new buyers after they realize they were "kinda" scammed. Bowing out when the time arrives is a hard thing to do in the passion of the bidding, but the "good guys" need to share what they know about how to set a "limit" to make every card buy a good experience. We certainly don't want card buyers to feel bad after a card purchase. Have a great week.

@DogAteMyCard great point! There are a lot of cards I pull put and just smile because it is zero regret, only joy! Too many bad deals can quickly have folks resenting the hobby and the process.

I kept my eye on that Willie Mays during the initial sale about a month ago. I remember that it was sitting around $2500 and then out of nowhere it shot up to over $5000. My initial thought was that was a pretty large bid when I looked at the bid history. I wouldn’t imagine that somebody would go from a little over 3000 to 5000 in one bid. It caught me by surprise.

Great video. Am a huge Banks collector. Bid on the original Home Run Derby auction but wasn’t in the ballpark. Love the ‘66 Venezuelan - have the three ‘66s Topps, OPC and Venezuelan - a vintage rainbow! The 1962 Pittsburgh Exhibits I am not familiar with and the only one you showed I do not have. Very cool card. Thanks for sharing - enjoyed seeing some cards from a fellow Banks collector.

@Brad-mj3tg very cool! I need the OPC for 66 still! I like the 68 rainbow as well with those 3 and Milton Bradley. Would love to check out your Banks collection, sounds impressive!

Man, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love how you share some of the oddball, rare examples of what most might not know about. Never seen a Pittsburgh Exhibit card. Very cool. Having watched several of your videos, I believe this is your niche and I enjoy them thoroughly.

Tough cards that have really ramped up with the recent move to "odd ball" and pre war. So not a great time to shop for them I think. I bought my PSA 3 Home Run Derby Banks a couple years ago for a bit under $500 and thought I was crazy at the time lol. But that said, of the 44 or whatever pop out there, that one is going to be off the menu for quite a while as it sits with me (without a silly type offer I suppose).
@Valuevintagecards-Aaron2 ай бұрын
@chrishayes4166 that is exactly why I love that stuff. Low pop count, but many in the hands of true collectors and not folks trying to flip it for a buck. Love vintage!
