Why I Hate "Fan Service" (and Harems)

Fanservice in 7 Deadly Sins is what always makes me turn off the show for example. I want plot and action sequences, not softcore hentai.

Couldn't agree more, I used to think ecchi shit was hilarious when I was younger but now adult me just wish they would just get rid of these "haphazard moments" and just kiss or have sex to get it over with and get on with the story. Doesn't even have to show sex scenes just imply it and be mature about it. This fascination with fan service has ruined slot of decent anime imo, Fire Force being the most recent for me

I can't stand harem either. I'm a huge fan of romance anime but for some reason, it seems like every romance anime has to include harem or some supernatural stuff going on in the story. It can never just be romance. But harem annoys me because you have 10 to 20 girls wanting one guy who isn't interested, oblivious, or just straight up scared of vagina. Why are you wasting your time on this guy? And now I have to remember all 20 of you, which can be difficult cause im not good at names and sense anime women tend to have same face syndrome it makes even harder. I wouldn't mind if it was a 3 love triangle, where maybe the guy picks one eventually.

You what I fucking hate about some anime’s, mainly the ecchi genre, the fact that the makers decide to make the male love interest constantly bombarded with boobs or whatever even tho there is clearly and main female love character and the moments always get ruined by some random fucking ecchi shit and it really pisses me off Bc in normal romance anime all that stuff happens minus the ecchi but u know sometimes you want a little ecchi but when there’s finally a good fucking moment it’s ruined by the random ass fucking ecchi moment

These days I avoid Shonen anime, I'm just too old for that shit. I try to find good Seinen anime and manga, I fit the demographic more, and if there is a harem situation, the MC will actually be in a relation ship with the women. :V

I dared my brother to watch one episode of a shoujo anime. He had never seen shoujo anime before. We talked and he wanted to believe that shoujo has a bunch of male fanservice just because most anime (which is for guys) has a bunch of female fanservice. He didn't really want to accept that ironic reality. Even without a trace of male sexualization, he was not able to pay attention to 3/4ths of that single episode. It was funny because many good anime have ridiculous oversexualization of women and female anime fans are able to endure it. Lets be honest here, female fans are more likely to watch both shounen and shoujo and male fans really only stick to shounen (ecchi, harem, whatever)

DXD put forward the best romance story for something animated I have ever seen thus far. I got addicted fast, burned through all 4 English dub seasons. Fan service didn't really bother me, my issue was seeing four of them jump him after he calls them family...that and children chanting boobies was just strange. Nothing to stop watching over though.

The characters are soo stupidly flat that it's boring ("you have saved me so I'll love you for the rest of my life") and there's no actual plot other than it's about the main character 'Issei' getting harem (Yes I know about the god and satan are dead, sacred gear crap and stuff but let's be real the only reason the "plot" is there because the "writer" just wants his main character go to places to make his harem even bigger and for no other reason and for any DxD fans don't bother lying you know it's true). And I just hate Issei. I don't get how people could even like this guy he's not even a good character.

Been reading the manga version of Monster Musume and the same question has crossed my mind for the obvious reason. From my viewpoint, the authors behind the work only use plot as a driver for their own need to toy around with their creations aka the characters and the viewer/reader only participates in that through viewing/reading. If it doesn’t sync the end result is one destroyed suspension of disbelief. So you have to approach it with just the right mindset or else you won’t find the wavelength needed to enjoy the work for what it’s meant to be. This stuff basically sells for young men still going through their hormonal stages. Seriously, if there’s any clear example of a simp bending over backwards for girls it is Kimihito from the aforementioned manga/anime. Cultural dissonance also doesn’t help since the Japanese have a different way of looking at sexuality than us westerners. It all makes sense once you realize that. What exactly is the point of fan service? As narrative ruining as it can be, softcore porn. 👅

I never liked harem, indeed there are some anime in it are no longer harem , they became a sexual enjoyment. As long as the main character loved one or started crossing his line, anime no longer harem . What worst there is anime called Overlord, it considered harem , however it is not because the 2 girls didn't fit the conditions of harem anime. There are many characters who got harem, don't have any reason to be loved like this and fans believe entering other man to love one of harem are bad idea, but I believe it is the opposite. Always believe Ecchi and anime full with fanservice are LQ.

For those that do not like fan service all I can do is recommend that you don't watch those anime series with it. I, on the other hand, enjoy fan service very much. High School DxD being my favorite. To each their own. If you live in the US then I guess you don't watch television or watch movies because of the "fan service". Anime are not necessarily cartoons for kids. Perhaps you should watch your local religious channel for "fan service free" programming. Just sayin'.
