Yeah, that poster was given to me by a friend when I retired in 2012. So, I think the message on the poster says more to me than the picture. It's all the things that make music such a great part of life. And since there's really no image of the headstock, and there are so many LP-style guitars; it's cool! Hey, man thanks so much for checking out the video. I don't want to see Gibson fail. They just gave me a raw deal that still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And I appreciate your comments.

I'm 73, now, and when my wife and I decided to downsize, I wanted just 2 guitars I could play and not have to worry about. So, I ended up with an Eastman AR603 Hollow body (15-inch bout) and a D'Angelico Excel SS single cut (14 1/2-inch lower bout) Both are great, and all I have to do is tune them up once in a while. I got worried I was going to get a lemon and was wishing I had checked things out before I ordered and paid. However I saw a post that said if you do order from a "G C" store and pick it up there you can change your mind if it's not up to par. I was lucky, the Fender is excellent. To me, Quilter is one of the best amp out there. They make great jazz amps and can be used for most forms of guitar music. they are solid state. They have a wonderful array of controls that give you the ability to get almost any sound you're looking for. I use the Micropro Mach 2. It has an 8 " speaker, It really has too many features to mention in this short reply. If you want to know about all it settings, go to their website at www.quilterlabs.com for more info. I've had mine for about 7 years, and I love it. My guitars come and go, but the Quilter always stays right here. If you want to really hear how it sounds, check out any Rich Severson KZbin videos. The only amp he uses is the Quilter Micropro 2. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5arYqOXjtZ_h6s) Good Luck, and thanks for watching my video.

I bought a Gibson Les Paul Classic about 20 years ago and I traded that in for a Strat. The nut was too high and it was almost impossible to tune. Basic "cowboy" chords sounded out of whack no matter how much you tried to tune it. The plastic pickup mounts were cracking. I recently bought an Epiphone Les Paul 50's, an SG in all black with gold p/u's and hardware, and a 50's Flying V all for less than the price of a lower end Gibson Les Paul and the quality is much better. I can't afford a Gibson and even if I could I still wouldn't buy one. Good luck on your next purchase.

Gibson is in its death throes, and they deserve it. They are corporate bullies and have lost touch with younger players. I always wanted one as a kid. When I got to a point where I could purchase one, I did. I have subsequently owned many. I currently own two. Recently I traded a guitar I didn't play much for a brand new Strandberg Boden. That did it for Gibson. When playing my Strandberg it made something wicked clear to me. Every time I play a Gibson, I am fighting the guitar one way or another. They look good and sound good, but nothing compared to my Strandberg. Gibson deserves everything they get. They have become a meme, a joke, and nobody as Gibson seems to care.

Hi Gregory. The loud hum or buzz your getting is coming from a wire that should have been grounded but has become disconnected from ground. If you build your own kit guitars you may be okay with doing this yourself with a little solder and a soldering iron. There may be some circuit diagrams on the internet that may be of some help. Thanks for sharing your video.
@Gregabalese5 жыл бұрын
Hey Joe, Thanks so much for checking out the video, and for your input. I kind of figured it was most likely a ground wire or perhaps a bad switch. It doesn't seem like a big job. Its just the fact that I have to put a new, $1799.00 guitar in the shop or take it apart and try and find the problem myself. Especially since this is the second one I had! Thanks again for taking the time to write me. Most appreciated.
@Douglas_I2 жыл бұрын
I know it's not the point but I think that ground wire coming loose is common with a lot of the bigger brands. I had the same issue on the new PRS SE custom 2408 eriza verde that was made this year. I also had it happen to a fender tele (Mexican) from this year as well. It was that silver 35th anniversary tele. Both are incredibly nice guitars other than that. And yeah that checklist seems like it's just another marketing scheme too. I had a 2019 Les Paul studio that had that same checklist while also having more than a couple issues that were obviously checked off on the list. If I'm remembering right, mine wasn't even checked off in each box. It just had a vertical line going through all the boxes. It was also claiming to be plek'd but there's no effing way that's true.
@Douglas_I2 жыл бұрын
Again I know you shouldn't have to do this, but the shop you bought the first one from would probably fix that for free and it would only take a minute or 2. The shop I go to would do it for me right away. They've done it for me on guitars I didn't even buy there.

I 100% agree with you. Gibson should sue themselves. I have a friend/customer that had an intermittent bridge pickup in a brand new $5000 custom shop Les Paul ‘59 reissue. I know it was an intermittent pickup, not an intermittent pot, switch or connection, because I removed it from the guitar and installed it in a test instrument connected directly to a jack and it worked for over a week. It then cut out during a final test, and confirmed my suspicion. This was after reflowing any iffy looking solder and testing the likely suspects among the components. I have never in 20 years as a professional tech even seen a new quality budget guitar with a bad pickup.

Introduced in 1949 and still made today, Gibson's ES-175 boasts the longest continuous production run in electric guitar history. Take the ES-175's iconic body shape with its f-holes and Florentine cutaway, shrink it down, turn it into a thinline semi-hollowbody with a center block, and you have the Gibson Memphis ES-235, an instrument that can do it all. Perfect for jazz, blues, rock, and any type of fusion you care to invent; the ES-235 can sound warm and mellow in the verse and viciously shred the solo. Combining the best of solidbody and hollowbody designs, Gibson further enhanced this instrument's masterful tonal dexterity by specifying a pair of their superb BurstBucker Pro humbucking pickups. Handcrafted by Gibson Nobody makes a semi-hollowbody guitar like Gibson. The ES-235 is handcrafted for quality craftsmanship you can count on, and from a city that knows how blues should sound. Carefully selected maple and poplar tonewoods, spruce top bracing, and its dual f-hole thinline acoustic body cavity with maple center block give the Gibson Memphis ES-235 its unmistakable tone and sustain.

Yeah it sucks when a company you love does the dirty on you. I had a similar issue a few years ago with Australian guitar maker Maton. I had neck issues, but they just fobbed me off and stopped replying. It was a bolt on so I figured replacing the neck would be simple, but they'd stopped production on them. This was years ago and I still play and enjoy the guitar to this day. I just had to make a couple of very minor adjustments myself. Just recently, about 4 months ago, I got myself a Gibson SG Tribute. The cheapest entry level Gibson I could afford, and I absolutely love it. I made some adjustments to bridge and tailpiece height, but that's more personal preference. Only issue was with the vintage style tuners, they use two locating screws per tuner, but mine only had one screw in each tuner. Luckily the headstock had the holes pre drilled, so I just bought some extra screws and screwed them in. A slight oversight by Gibson QC I guess. It was pretty hard to spot. But yeah, I really like my SG. Hope you got your Gibson sorted out

You are absolutely correct. The only problem is that most of the big box stores, such as Guitar Center, Sam Ash, don't carry most of the "high-end" guitars from Gibson and Fender if they're not the core line. These stores are so limited in their inventory, you're forced to purchase online from someone like Sweet Water or Reverb, etc. And you're also right about making sure you play it all you can within the return period to make sure it's OK. But these guitars come with a manufacturer warranty to the original owner for quality of workmanship after the retail store return period has ended. Gibson honored that warranty, they just did a very poor job of it. It was a perfect time for them to gain a customer. But they chose to send another bad guitar-that was worst than the first one. And they refused to answer any emails after that. So after 2 "poor-quality guitars," and poor customer service I was done! Thanks for watching the video and for your comments. Have a safe day!

Almost every company I've ever worked for has operated this way. Promise customers the moon and deliver them a piece of shit. If I go in a store once and get bad service then I give the company the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to a worker having a bad day. But if it happens two or three times then I conclude that the company owners/management are assholes, that they treat their workers like crap, and that's why their employees don't give a shit.

With Gibson it’s always hit and miss. I had some great Gibson guitars and some rather questionable ones in my lifetime. Everytime the ownership of the company changed, they tell you that the previous owner sucked and now everything is going to get better. But that was never ever the case. The company always stayed the same. You can find great Gibson guitars from any decade. Still my favourite guitar is a ´79 Les Paul Custom. But I wouldn’t recommend a Gibson to an aspiring guitar player, cause it can be too much trouble. You have got to know exactly what you want and how to handle issues and be prepared to take some money to get them fixed by a qualified luthier. Which is a shame considering the price they are asking for…

The problem isn't just Gibson. Quality is pretty much an issue in all US corporate and mid-sized companies. Look at the US auto makers. They're in the same situation. The problem stems from the fact that the bean counters that run the companies are only interested in numbers. So the guys on the line pump them out as fast as they can meanwhile quality takes a dive. But hey ...... they've met the numbers. I couldn't stand that mindset that results in very mediocre products so for the last 30 years I live in Central Europe. Quality here doesn't take a hit for the sake of the bean counters like in the US.

That's how my myth about the exceptional quality of the US made guitars had been busted 7 years ago after I saw issue after issue on Gibson, Fender, G&L... guitars for $1500-2500. It were the same flaws as on Chinese or Indonesian guitars for $200-500. And then I realized that there is nothing special about them, it's just overpriced brand names, nothing else.
@Gregabalese6 ай бұрын
Hi Vitaliistep, Your right in a lot of cases. The name brands thought they could live on their laurels and customers would buy their guitars just because of the name on the headstock. But along came the imports with great quality and features at a more reasonable price. Gibson and other had to go back and re-think their products. With companies like Eastman, D'angelico, PRS, Cort, Ibanez and others, you no longer have to pay a premium price for crap! Thanks for checking out my video. Peace to you.

Never owned a Gibson, never wanted one, they`re vastly overrated & overpriced, have had several copies over the years, some even better than the originals they were designed on, such as Ibanez, Aria, Yamaha, Hamer and my current Hofner Congress, one of the best ones I had for around a year, was the Ibanez GB10, George Benson signature model, its a great sounding hollow archtop, that`s around the same size & shape of a Les Paul, and just perfect for playing Jazz on. With all the great quality budget guitars that are available now, Gibson are beginning to look like the bitter old man sitting on a Park bench today, whining about how good they were in the "Old Days." but that`s what happens when you rest on your laurels, and refuse to embrace change.

Yeah, it was everything I wanted in a Jazz guitar. Small body and some other features I wanted. But man, it turns out to be a real piece of junk. Once the boomers die off Gibson & Fender are in big trouble. The boomers were brainwashed into believing that only expensive American-made guitars would work back in the ‘70s & that attitude still prevails in that demographic. However younger generations have figured out that less-expensive Asian-made guitars are very well made & very affordable. Gibson is lucky to have Epi & Fender is lucky to have Squier because those brands will be floating the corporate boat soon enough.
@Gregabalese2 жыл бұрын
That's a great observation. You are correct about Squier (the biggest seller of guitars in the world) and Epiphone being the financial anchor of these companies. I think Fender may be in slightly better shape than Gibson. I really do hope that neither of these great guitar builders fails. But Gibson will have to do much better for its customers to stay afloat. You're also correct about the import market. It's getting better every day. After selling off the Gibson, I use the money to purchase an Eastman. Still expensive, but boy what a difference in quality! Thanks so much for watching my video and for your comments. Stay safe.
