WHY I HATE MY BMW 650 GRAN COUPE

I just bought my 2017 Gran Coupe and I had to replace 3 run flats in 3 months. So, I did what you said and moved away from run-flats. Now it is the sweetest ride ever. Thanks so much for your advice.

I had a 550 before my 650i coupe too! I wish I'd kept it. Almost all you said I've been through. I love my vehicle still, but the maintenance is serious. Idk if it's because I'm a woman driving it or just the car period but, people like to TRY to race me like an unspoken challenge. I don't take the bait though it's tempting sometimes. My husband was in the passenger seat & a guy pulled to rev his motor (I don't remember what car it was), but my husband commented nonchalantly "please fool, don't get your feeling hurt. My wife can smoke you".🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've got a 2016 650 xdrive coupe M Sport package and switched my run flats. You're 100% accurate. What a difference! For the seats I've been using the leather cleaner regularly that BMW gave me with the car and haven't experience any cracking. Also I haven't stop smiling since I got this car. 6:45 exactly, confirmed! I had X4, then X3 on run flats. I researched and decided to buy non-run-flats. Bought them for both, summer and winter. The difference is huuuge! You do not hear every pothole and bump on road, its comfortable and suspension is not wearing that much as with RF!

I had my 2011 328i for 5 years and it was fantastic ownership. All she asks for is the oil. Gotta hold onto her as long as I can. Inline 6 cyl is a perfect match for Toronto city driving.

Great video. I have GC 640d and it is an awesome vehicle. I must agree with the 20 inch run flat tyres. It is a nightmare to always be on the lookout to avoid potholes or road imperfections. Also once you ding the mag then just down hill. Will give consideration to non run flat tyres. Did that on my BMW 528 and was a major pleasure.

I can tell you Kellington that even though i spoke of these issues , i still love love love this thing. The fact that nothing looks like it sounds like it captures poeple's attention like it. Make you want it more and more. I loved it so much that i went out and bought the M6 gran coupe as well. Now thats the pinacle of BMW's best. Check it out on the channel as well.

My Car: 2014 650i Gran Coupe Mineral White with Ivory White Leather Seats, MSports package and the Bang and Olufsen sound system! I am sick thinking about the fact that I have to heavily consider giving up my Gran Coupe 😢 Hands down the sexiest car I have ever owned! I have been in and out of the dealership probably 20 times in less than 4 years with every problem imaginable. I never experienced these issues with my 5 series. After my CPO warranty expired I purchased an extended warranty which was expensive but ended up being worth it. My current extended warranty company isn't that great and they aren't holding up to everything they said they would cover. What hurts the most is how quickly this car has depreciated. From over 100k to 25k in 6 years is ridiculous. This was a car I thought I would keep until the wheels fell off haahaa but that vision has now gotten very dim and I am sick about it because when it's running good it's a BEAST to drive! BMW really failed me with this one 💔

@@letsrollout7307 Mostly Recurring issues! It does this thing where the engine revvs on it's own while idle and even in park. It doesn't do it as much now but this is evidence that they are not fixing the problem. I used to be at the dealership every two weeks or every few months. Constant drivetrain malfunctions...they have replaced the high pressure fuel pump twice, low pressure fuel pump, fuel injections, multiple sensors, catalytic converter and even the engine! After all that they still refused to put me in another car. I reached out to Corporate, BMW USA the GM of the dealership and didn't get anything resolved ....SAD! My car was clearly a lemon.

No it was 3 years old when I purchased it with about 22k miles. It currently has about 67k miles on it driven mostly in the city a little hwy. I drive about 45 miles per day as of this year I used to only drive about 20 miles a day.

I couldn't agree more. Where I am, every new BMW owner waits for the day he replaces the stock runflats with PS4s. Some people buy a spacesaver spare meant for the E60- the last BMW that had one. Runflats are safely repairable as long as not punctured in the sidewall, and when patched are more resistant to blowouts than conventionals, though I suppose where you are shops might refuse to patch on legal grounds.

They can be patched here as well. Runflats are great as long as there's a substantial side wall. The low profiles are really bad on your wallet

I have a '14 640i coupe, and you hit it on the button with the belt strap and run flats, horrible drive and you're constantly looking around for holes in the road to avoid it sounding like you just slammed into a wall. It's a fun, powerful, and beautiful vehicle... everyone is still in awe of it when I drive her around; but after the extended warranty is up, she's getting traded for a Japanese car... going back to a Lexus. The new 8 series looks mean as hell though.

Dude, what a STUNNING car from an aesthetic perspective. I’m sure it drives like a dream when it’s actually not in the shop. It’s just such a shame that BMW can’t seem to fix their reliability problems. This is the primary reason I’m too gun shy to pull the trigger on purchasing one! Oh, and BTW, if you ever get the opportunity, go visit the BMW headquarters in Munich Germany. You can literally eat off the floors of the assembly plant- it’s that pristine!

My first car is a 335i convertible. I know your feeling. Although 4 or 6 series look similar like sedan. They must driving so careful to not scratch the bumper. Also They consume more oil and fuel and drive feeling much harder. I remember once I drive back to sedan. OMG, its comfortable

@@letsrollout7307 I've had a 535 GT for circa 5 years, now @ 58.000 mls. Been wanting a 650i GC for a few months now as i want for something more sporty and to experience a V8. Dispite the issues you have had, would you still recommend it? My GT has been flawless once I sorted out the air suspension gremlins as couple years ago at a cost of £1600 Not bad, as that's all I've really paid for other than wear and tear. I'm Kind of hoping the 650 will lead down the same path of reliability. 👍

Almost identical to mine..but I have shadow-line window trim and the upgraded head lamps as well as piano black trim. That said, I'm currently living in Europe, so I went with a 640D M-Sport GC (lower taxes). You are on point with all that you have said, just that you didn't mention the seating position. As in behind the B-Pillar, which drives me NUTS getting in and out of in general!! Now, I know where that rattling noise comes from, I always thought that it was the inner roof cover. Thanks! Having had a 645 Ci (With Sport Package and actual 6-Speed Manual) & 750Li in the US, I like to slide in an out with ease. I regret not just buying another 2 door coupe. BTW, I LOVE TORONTO!! Just traded a 2017 Corvette Grand Sport for a 2015 BMW Gran Coupe and I have ZERO regrets, Its the same feeling when I push my right foot down just a LOT smoother. I bought a warranty also and Im looking to gt a tire and Rim warranty, I already have a bent left front RIM I'll be replacing soon. But everybody tells me thats a problem with these rims.

So true on the run flats. Replaced 2 in 8 months plus a cracked alloy. BMW refused to accept any issues and it wasn't until I was able to confront them with pages of web comments plus an admition from Bridgestone that BMW quietly did something. .

The 650 seats are tighter and its easier to drag yourself in trying to get in under the low slung roof.Its a beautiful roofline but that’s probably the reason why your your seeing more wear. Deeper seats with high bolsters are nice looking but require more work to get over the bolster without touching it.I have an M4 and a 435m sport and it was easier to get in the msport. The m4 seats have more wear the the 435m sport seats but I knew that on the first day when I saw the seats.I would stay away from the ivory interiors with the sport seats.

I had a 650 gran coupe and traded it in for an Audi S8. I like the S8 but I miss driving the 650i. But this time when I trade in my S8 it will be for the alpina b6. Since then busted 2 rims and had 2 worn out tires... So bought 4 Beyern rims 19 inches instead of 20 . These are forged wheels not cast, Good quality. bought 4 new Michelin sport tires with NO run flat . All the deference in the world .... Cost me close to $5000.00 with the tax... I had a 750i sport with those same rims and run flats. You have to watch those rims also. They are very thin and if you hit a nice pot hole like I did. The rims can get a hairline crack and make it so they won't hold air. New rims are almost $1000 each!!

Tire pressure is 36 in front, 41 in rear. I when I'm riding down the road going 40 or faster and while rocking/tilting the steering wheel slowly from left then right, it feels like the wheels aren't in sync. Almost feels like the front wheels are connected to the steering wheel and instantly respond, while the rear wheels are delayed 1-2 seconds and result in the swaying effect.

Make the tire pressure 41psi all around. You no longer have the hard side walls for support. You will see a huge difference once you've don't that.

Switch to non RFTs. That's always the first on the list with any BMW. Given the terrible ride quality with those tires it probably wears out the suspension components far faster too. As much as I would like the V8 power I think I'd spring for a model with the 3.0L straight 6 motor as the N63 is a bit of a quirky one. What watch are you wearing in the intro BTW?

Hey B 😊. Thanks for the question. The 640i is a great choice it's 315HP is good enough and the sound is ample what better about the 640i is it's resale value. It holds it better than the 650i. You also get better fuel economy as well so if you're considering one. I would say go drive it and then decide if it's for you. 😉😉😉😉

The issues I had with my 650i coupe M spec was also the run flat tire (had two flats on both front tire on the same road). My second is the failing ignition coil - one at a time. Going limp mode is a public embarrassment.

The only issue i would say that came from its last owner is the transfer case. After replacing it the dealership techs didn't complete the reinstallation of the ground wire properly. Ince that was done. The car was fantastic. All the other stuff was miner. It was all taken cared of by the dealer. Except for the seat wear. Thank for sharing your thoughts with us Curtis. LOVE it. Big D. Both of these car r great and i can see why you can be torn but think about this. The Audi A7 has sold more units than the BMW 6 series which means you'll be seeing them more often on the road. So you're now just another A7. Now because of the lower volume sold on the BMW. You get more exclusivity and a lesser chances of seeing another one as you drive so more eyes on you. But i will say this. The audi has better ride quality though because of the air ride suspensions. The driver seat looks worn mainly because it's white, which is a VERY demanding color. You should have chosen something darker (brown, black) for a more practical interior. With white leather you can't wear jeans or anything of darker colors. Also, clothes which aren't too soft tend to damage the fine leather. But how about the reliability of the 650i? It seems to be a common theme on the internet that the 50i engines are very unreliable.

This car has given me no issues other than what was stated in the video. I love my 650i alot. Engine has been fantastic power is great. All the minor issues that i apoke about was fixed by BMW and i would recommend this car. Change the tire and you'll love it 👍👍👍👍👍👍

What I can tell you is that you will have better fuel economy the sound is pretty good as well and the run-flat tires will be a problem that's the only thing. @@letsrollout7307 I owned a 2009 1 Series (Daily) which I had a lot of problems with. And I still own a E46 330i which only need service, oil and thats it. It is true that there are more electronics nowadays ... but once I dont need a lane change assistent ... and second: We fly to the moon and cant handle some electronics? We should be able to handle this without these problems. I tell you some of these failures are planned. Like some plastic parts in cars or many other maschines (e.g. coffee maschines) would last very long if they would be made out of metal. But the point is: Then nobody makes money with the repairs. I keep the E46 (because its a car out of the golden era) but my next car will be a older volvo or a new toyota (cars that can handle 400.000 km without bigger problems). Thats just my opinion to this.

I'm pretty sure the difference you see in seat wear is because of the different leather types used on each car. Your 550i has Dakota leather which is very strong and durable with little maintenance required. Your Grand Coupe has Napa leather which is much thinner and less durable than the Dakota leather. The Napa leather is softer and more supple than the Dakota but it just doesn't hold up well after long time use.

Hi I’m 24, I just got one of these. A 2012 with few miles (27K)on it and I have a bumper to bumper warranty for the next 6 years. Your video helped me with my purchase this car is the epitome of luxury i have never before witnessed. No one tries to race me because they think it’s a luxury car, not knowing I have a 4.9 sec 0-60 worth of power, this I enjoy. I like to drive slow in this thing. My friends think I’m a millionaire. Hard to imagine it was only 30K!

LET'S ROLL OUT 35,000 actually after taxes and warranty. Simply incredible. This is my first BMW, I’ve always avoided them because everyone around me said they’re unreliable. I stumbled across the 650i by accident. I was browsing for either a 392 challenger, Mustang, or a 3rd gen Lexus F sport packaged car. I’ve always seen this car on the road, not often, but you see when it’s around it because it’s style and design demands attention. Long, beautifully sculpted and aggressive. From the side it looks like a shark or some type or agile predator and the head lights wrap around from the side to the front makes it look even more intimidating with how the fascia is designed. It reminds me of how Lexus does their third gen taillights on the IS. I had never got to be so close to one before, I fell in love. It checks every box for me. I adore this vehicle so much I am trading it half way into warranty for another in a later model. Simply incredible, I do not know why these dont liter the streets.

Hope the turbos and oil seals are covered in you're warranty....because when you see smoke or the exhaust getting really dark trust me you will hate it lol I stay away from BMW v8s

Yes! I ditched the run flats too for Michelin Pilot SS. Adds even more grip with X Drive and ride became much softer. Still a good idea to avoid bumps and holes on the road :)

I had a BMW 525 Tds and I had run flat tyres on them I had the same problem with them the ride was far too hard. I had to have the original alloy wheels replaced also I couldn't find a non run flat tyre to fit the original wheels. When I fitted the car with non run flat tyres there was no problem. Love your show.

Just got a 2014 650i. Absolutely love it! Previous owner had replaced the run flats, and it rides like a dream. Incredibly fun to drive! After over a month, I still get a cheesy grin on my face every time I open the garage door...
