Why I haven't reviewed the Planar 3RS and is it a budget Rega P6?

Had a modded P3 (platter, power supply) and now a stock P6 with the same Exact cart, power supply and Rega MM phono stage. The P6 blew it out of the water. It's all about the plynth.

I got the 3 RS knowing I was getting the best Planar 3 ever not a P6 lite. I'm totally fine with that. I looked long and hard at my finances and decided I was getting the P6. Unfortunately my wife also looked and told me my fortune 😂 So was chuffed at her agreeing to stock P3 and even happier that RS just dipped below the four figure mark so my beautiful wife saw the 3 figures and by time she twigged she was already in love with the beauty of the RS. Life comes with compromises. Even if I could afford an Rp8 and up my wife wouldn't have one in our living room. Subjective I know but I don't think Rega have ever made a better looking TT than the RS

I have the 50th and I al thinking about upgrading the sub platter. You mentioned in another video that you are against that, right? Do you mind going into detail about why that is a bad idea? A lot of people seem to praise the resault.

I recently upgraded my 1980s P3 (I should probably have sold it and gone for a 6 or 8, but my late missus bought it for me back in the day, so it has sentimental value) with new Rega motor and Neo PS, plus ND5 cart. I replaced the moulded sub-platter with an alloy one from Iceni Audio in Norfolk and it was a definite improvement. Not a massive difference, but a noticeable one. Not expensive and nicely made and machined. A tight fit to the platter. Better Regas come with alloy subs, so it seems logical that it will be an improvement. Origin Live mat in place of the original felt one was worth the money, too.

Keep all your original parts unless you've upgraded via an approved Rega path. I wouldn't touch a pimped Rega because I don't believe geezers in a shed knows more about Rega turntables than Rega.

@@andy3974 None of the changes are irreversible. The new motor, PSU and cart are Rega parts, fitted by my Rega dealer.

Interesting that Rega kept the subplatter the same. As you are aware you can get that component for about the same as the e-belt. Say it again we fall into the upgrade rabbit hole. Spend your money on vinyl and enjoy the ride.

@@andy3974 They are constrained by cost on the P3. A machined alloy sub isn't cheap to make. The 6 and 8 have alloy subs. I'll spend my money however I like, thanks.

Yeah we are very lucky especially here in Donegal we're blessed with landscape/scenery (has to be up there with some of the best in the world), No doubt the same can be said for you guys in Scotland too though! Brilliant setup man fair play! For myself currently have a 2016 Planar 3 with a Goldring E4 cartridge, Rega fono mm mrk 3 phono stage, neo tt psu and Q Acoustic 3050's for the speakers. Still only 23 so relatively new to the hobbie, very easy rabbit hole to go down 😂

In my study I have a Rega P6, Exact, Neo TT PSU, Apollo, Brio and RX1 s. Small room, so this will suit fine. I will be changing up to ND7 and AYA in the new year. Amp will have to wait.
