i actually recently switched to HT because i had a toxic workplace previously. so far it seems really good and i’m praying something like this doesn’t happen. i was working as a dental assistant but the doctor asked me to kiss him for a raise. i left and immediately got hired at hot topic less than 24 hours later as an assistant manager.

Hopefully it works out well for you and you have a good district manager! There are good ones out there, and the culture at HT was fantastic until my DM ruined it.

I work in the warehouse industry so it’s a tad different than retail but I just had similar experience with a job that I quit a month ago . I got promoted to team lead earlier in the year after being there for 2 years and a few months later a new supervisor was hired and everything went down hill from there . I related so hard to you when you said the boss filling in didn’t seem to understand your position. That’s exactly how this new supervisor treated me and the company did nothing to solve the problem except blame me for how i was handling things . I’m starting a new job in a couple of days and I’m just excited to start fresh and be away from that place . I hope things are going well with you and you’ve found a better place to work at with more opportunity . Leaving a toxic environment is the best feeling .

I'm so sorry you had to go through the same thing! I'm definitely doing much better at my new job and the company definitely cares way more than Hot Topic! My husband just walked out of his job at journeys too because of a similar situation!

When I worked at hot topic they only cared about people having a rewards account and if we didn’t force absolutely everyone to create one we would get shamed and punished. Other things bothered me too but that’s the main thing I absolutely do not miss.
@alice_horror Жыл бұрын
UGH! They really started pushing that hard right before I left. It was disgusting how forceful they wanted us to be. Hell, I had a visiting manager(there to help out while my boss was on leave) try to tell one of my staff members to 'trick' minors into giving their personal info 🤮. My boss and I always told our staff that as long as we could see they were trying, that's what mattered. Some times people just don't want to sign up. I would rather have my customers come back than have the highest percentage in the district 🤷
@nightmime5810 Жыл бұрын
@@alice_horror no literally! Like I don’t blame my store managers at all because they also hated it and we felt like we were harassing people. My managers were just trying to not get chewed out every time a higher up would stop by or look at the percentages. I got yelled at by so many people because they didn’t want to sign up. The managers even had us asking random people in the store if they wanted to get extra points by putting their phone number in for a strangers transaction! So many people complained about it which got my managers in trouble anyways.

Aw, man, that's horrible. I don't like sharing my private life with anyone, but I do regret the time working at Hot Topic. While I must've enjoyed working with other managers, and associates at the store, the store manager, in my eyes, not so much. In fact, the reason why I am stating this is that one time, I received a written-up, and it turned out to be the worst experience that I've ever faced in the retail world. I was so down, I didn't want to continue being alive as wanted to take my own life, but I decided not to. I would deliver a rundown with my close friends & family, and they understood my perspective on what I was telling them. I understand that it was too much to put in detail, but they got my point, after all.
@alice_horror3 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry your experience was that horrible, they are definitely a strict company with policies and write ups ☹️ I'm thankful that i had such an amazing boss, and I don't regret working there. Watching our district manager literally take away all the things he was trying to do to make working easier for himself mentally was the hardest part of it all.

I'm done with big businesses I'm looking to thrift and DIY my own shit from now on. Even Etsy is a shell of it's former self and gave into the corporate corruption and abuse that others do like Amazon and Ebay... :/ Besides if you consider yourself a true leftist and alt goth/punk/emo/scene then you would be supporting smaller businesses and thrift and DIY your own clothes.. :/ And if you're not a leftist then you're a poseur, completely miss the point of alt; fashion, culture, message and movements.
