I think Samsung got it reputation from how it looks in the store compared to the other TV's. Samsung pushes the darks more than Sony and at the same time pushes color saturation so when someone walks into the showroom the Samsung will stand out. This impresses your average buy who just goes by first impressions. My main concern about buying a Samsung is I hate SOA (except in sports and reality TV) and I hear you cannot completely turn off SOA on Samsung TV's. Which is why I'm waiting for 2023 TV's to come out so I can buy a 77" Sony QD-OLED. Happy Holidays!!!

SOA can indeed be fixed using the picture clarity settings, do NOT use auto mode! Either have it off to give a similar feel to FMM or use custom to tune to your liking, I find having judder off and motion to 4 is about perfect on everything I watch. 😉

Not just should Samsung improve their firmware issues, but actually state on their firmware updates what they have improved. Tizen also needs better apps and Samsung should implement Dolby Vision ASAP.

They probably won't, I mean they went and made the HDR 10+ standard with Amazon just to not have Dolby Vision. If Samsung TVs had Dolby Vision at the same price they'd be no brainers imo

They may like running their TV's in over bright mode to pick up the purchases from the under informed consumers. The reasons I discount Samsung partly is a lot of issue not mentioned to do with the sound, also I think their picture algorithm has some issues with some things like Trees and rocks that make some outputs look super weird with processed even a little bit, and there is lots of tone mapping stuff you can't turn off that causes feature clash. I do like their picture in picture modes though (when they work) I'd consider a Samsung as a 3rd TV but not a 1st choice. Even the frame though disappoints as it doesn't work very well with retro bullet hell shooters despite having a vertical screen option. So basically it's only for a video call really or watching Vertical Twitch Videos.

I bought a 65" QN90B and using it as a PC monitor for work and gaming in 4K. I LOVE IT Blows my mind every time I turn it on as the picture is so beautiful. Still learning all the different features like gaming mode and film-maker mode etc. KZbin looks amazing on it in 4K using Smart TV App and the KZbin Shorts are massive on the big screen and the way you control everything with your Samsung phone SmartThings remote and the keyboard pops up when you want to type in to search. Perfect blacks plus brighter than any other TV. I have played the LG OLED: DAYDREAMS 4K HDR 60fps demo videos and it looks so much better on the QN90B with the bright sun piercing at you as they skydive makes you want to put sunglasses on while the same sun is dim and dull on LG OLED and the 2020 LG OLED: The Black 4K HDR 60fps demo looks way better on QN90B than LG OLED like the black cast-iron kettle just looks so much better and no blooming. The speakers on the QN90B are amazing so I don't need to buy a soundbar because the high-quality 4.2.2 built-in Dolby Atmos speakers sound so good. I have the QN90B TV speakers setup using the old Sound Speaker Icon shortcut on my desktop on Windows 11 and you then configure it to the "Dolby Atmos for Home Theater" which requires an install from the Microsoft Store of Dolby Access which is free as the TV is already licenced to Dolby. Now you can test each of the 5.1 speakers built-in in the 65" QN90B TV. It shows you the two front two rear and centre speakers and subwoofer and you can test each one by clicking on the icons. Also, no chance of burn-in with QN90B so I can leave static work on screen all day every day and not worry. Using a wireless gaming keyboard and mouse on a round glass table at the perfect height sitting on my leather couch while working and playing games. My previous TV / PC monitor was a 10-year-old 3D Samsung 8 series TV which still works perfectly to this day and has no input lag. Check the input lag on the QN90B and it is as good if not better in gaming mode than the LG C2 OLED. Buy yourself a proper luxury Samsung QN90B TV and set it up using the Samsung SmartThings app which connects WiFi and does the TV setup, then you can calibrate your QN90B picture using your phone and then use your phone as your TV remote from now on. I will only be looking to buy another Samsung TV again in 10 years time as Samsung QN90B is by far the best quality.

@@rodrigocruz360 What is dse? The Samsung QN90B is a fantastic PC monitor. It displays most chroma 4:4:4 signals properly, which is essential for good text clarity. It has a good viewing angle, ensuring the sides of the screen remain uniform when sitting close to the TV. It also has a very low input lag of 5.9ms, so it feels responsive when you're moving your mouse, and it has a quick pixel response time, so there's very little blur behind fast-moving objects. Finally, it has fantastic peak brightness and superb reflection handling, so you don't have to worry about glare in a bright room.

QN95A owner and very happy with the image quality and the sound, both excellent. Used to own a Panasonic plasma and no issues switching in terms of image or sound. The Tizen is a mixed bag, the silly bar pops up when I don't want it, e.g. go into the TV guide, come out and the home bar pops up, why? No way to us Android apps so you are stuck with ad laden youTube. The ads and tracking on the Samsung TVs is shocking, but I get round this by blocking all Samsung domains via DNS filtering, works great. Remote is ok, it needs a backlight or at least glow keys, please Samsung don't give us two remotes, give us one high quality metal body remote. One Connect box is also excellent, no issues with it. Oh and bring back DTS support. Dolby Vision, don't care, the TV easily hits 1500 nits and the majority of content does not even get to 1000 so why do I care about bringing down the nits? Set it to Filmaker mode and a few other changes, then enjoy.

Note on the Samsung 8000 series: I purchased Jan 2021. It has worked fine, while supplementing it with a Roku stick for streaming. Starting Oct 2022 it randomly doesn't work when turned on. You can see the screen blinking in between black (off) and dark grayish. The red light will blink but can take anywhere between 5 seconds to lately up to 5 minutes before it will come on. The Smart things app says the tv is offline even though my phone and ipad are on wifi and working. I googled issue and it called the Samsung black screen of death, so it is a known problem.

I recently bought a S95B - upgrading from the AU9007. It’s such an incredible TV although the auto-dimming drives me insane a little. I was going to get G2 but I was watching KZbin videos and found that the S95B has the ability to render more of the colours from the source than the G2. I also found a store where they had both tvs side by side and confirmed the S95B renders a better image. The OS is slow and the build quality isn’t great. I’m not too fussed about Dolby Vision as it’s a technology that’s built for 12-bit panels. Overall super happy.

@michaelbeckerman7532
@michaelbeckerman7532 Жыл бұрын
This is something that comes up all the time. Unfortunately for many consumers, they don't figure that part out until after they are well past their return policy window. Samsungs are well-known for substantially over-boosting and over saturating their colors - and they do this on EVERY single model they release to market. That then leaves the consumer tasked with having to dig down into the Tizen OS to try and figure out how to adjust their settings to make the colors on their Samsung look natural, real and authentic. Good luck. Have fun with that. This is a perfect example of why consumers need to SLOW DOWN when purchasing a new TV and actually do their HOMEWORK first. If you just go on the marketing hype and automatically buy a Samsung because that's what everyone ELSE is doing, you're likely going to be in for a very big disappointment - at a variety of different levels.

Right, but once someone points out to them the entirely unnatural, oversaturated over-boosted colors on every Samsung model, they can never un-see it - and they are usually done with Samsung at that point. Who can blame them? Who wants to spend $2K to $3K on a TV that they immediately have to try and fix the colors on to make them look anything close to authentic? Untrained certainly being the operative term there, for sure!

On action scenes its a sloppy mess but turn it off the judder is so distracting it’s ridiculous. My Vizio, something I bought for the price being that I was first moving out of my parents, performs better with motion with everything shut off.

It is Not wort buying an 8K set unless it is larger than 75" as the pixels are to close together forcing it to push more power into the screen to get it brighter and so use more energy than an 4K 85" TV often does, So yeah do not buy an 8K set with current tech under 75". As for Sony dropping 55" from the US, makes sense the average home size is way larger than say Japan and so they have the space for a Bigger TV they might not have in all cases in the home market. Also some would argue 65" is the new standard size for a TV over $1000 now anyway

Nah plasma will look better in dark scenes Main advantage is energy and brightness black levels will be meh Depending on the budget get an oled or any lcd no matter the brand with local dimming instead (with enough zones it can compete with plasma black levels while being much brighter) Btw no worry spending a decent amount on a tv the overall cost of energy saving will probably actually turn a “profit “ when compared to still using a plasma but that depends on your regional energy costs

The ONE thing I hate about my Samsung TV: The constant ads appearing in the GUI and menus, even auto-installing 3rd party apps without my approval and even putitng them in priority spots. This is a lack of respect and it is totally innaceptable for me. So even if the display quality is pretty good (once you deactivate all the image "enhancements" and all the "smart" functions, which are basically bs ) , but for that one reason my next TV will not be Samsung.

It rarely gets talked about, but that's just the very start of the list of reason why people that buy Samsung TVs are largely disappointed with them. Again, for the most part, Samsungs are FAR more hype/marketing than they are substance, unfortunately. That's something that is commonly overlooked in the TV space. For consumer's sake though, it shouldn't be.

FOMO, I’m not a TV expert by any stretch and really appreciate your content. This was well timed because I’m about to hit the buy button on a q90b 75in. My situation seems unusual but a few years ago I bought what I’d consider my first good tv, the 65in lg oled c6. I loved the tv, the ui, almost everything about it but my tv habits led to extreme burn in. I have a chess board burnt in the center, the hearts from Zelda, the hud from multiple cods, GoW HUD, most of my desktop from my computer, Netflix logos… Long story short that particular Samsung seemed to have what I wanted in an led, as unfortunately I don’t think oled is for me. Something’s that sold me were the 4 hdmi 2.1 (it’s only a matter of time before I own Xbox x & ps5; one exclusive I want to play away). Although I could get by with 2 but Sony dedicates one for there sound bar (that was the main competition x90j). It’ll be my first sound bar and I think I read Samsung could do their own sound bars wirelessly. Anyway I could ramble for a while but basically since I’ve been watching your videos trying to pick the best tv for me I was wondering if you’d weigh in on my decision; maybe give me some insight. Just bear in mind I hit 3 grand when I bought the c6 and swore I wouldn’t do that again and with the sound bar and the q90b I’m doing that again (I was looking at the 65 for the longest but recently leaning towards the 75 and this video locked it in). Anyway if you made it this far thanks.😂

Samsung is expensive but affordable (when on sale). I bought my S95B 65" floor model with some damage to AR coating at 2 corners for $465USD a few weeks ago the caveat is the corners they cut: build quality issues/poor quality, poor aftersales support/warranty, NEVER ENDING firmware issues, no options to disable firmware update if you're internet connected, awful bloated unintuitive tizen software The remote is also horribly inefficient with a few dozen clicks before you get to the one menu item you need. LG's magic remote is better in every way and their software is better too. If LG made QD OLED I would have bought that. What Samsung has the best is newest tech and best image quality for lowest price (Sony image at Toshiba pricing)

I understand but if Samsung is #1 in sales for 17 years in a row, that means people prefer peak brightness and color vibrancy. Sony defines themselves on accuracy but are stubborn on pricing . For example Samsung qn90b at 85” is $2,599 and sony x95k is $4,299. To top it off the picture quality is better on the Samsung qn90b . Which one do you think most consumers will buy. The answer is Samsung. When sony is being beaten for years against Samsung you would think you would make adjustments. Sony is repetitive on their approach that hasn’t worked for years. Sony still sells but will never top Samsung.

Samsung TV's now listen to the room and send targeted ads. Turning it off is a nightmare of going to the website and even then, it's almost not possible. Also, Samsung TV's (I was a fan and currently own 6) now have ads on the menu bar. I've called the company, you can't turn them off. I'm done with Samsung.

Just personally, I dont like what samsung does with TVs. The image quality doesn’t cut it. QN90B is good but far too expensive for a TV that doesn’t isn’t self emissive yet the S95B has awful colour space handling and build quality, and the A95K is a far superior product. Samsung is brilliant for casuals, but once you’re a purest you never go out and buy a Samsung TV. But if you love pop and oversaturation, go right ahead

I guess I agree with that, since we are also acknowledging that most tvs with most media usage look about the same with some minor differences in performance that buying a larger tv should be the first priority. However for someone that uses the TV a lot, the cost per hour is not that much more, but the FOMO of over paying with new technology is real. Thats why its not an easy decision no matter what for those that enjoy tvs and dont want to miss out while trying to be wise in their spending. For example now the s95c sounds like a fleshed out tech, but what if they also add MLA tech in 2024, so that means each year a consumer would buy a tv that is better than the other in a significant way (2022 s95b 2023 s95c brighter, 's95d' brighter with MLA possibly and may be even better processing and may be even DV!!!!). If I know that information for example I would wait till 2024.

Samsung TVs often seem to be brighter and have more "pop" than, say, an LG or Sony. Some people are put off by that, preferring a more "natural" look, but to many, many others it's a major selling point.

Yup. I will say that Pop and a brighter picture captures most people’s attention over a natural picture, which looks dull in comparison. While the picture may not be accurate or director’s intent, most people are wowed and want their tv to look like Samsung.

I think Samsungs are overrated. Most non educated tv buyers buy Samsung thinking they are the best. My brother in law is one of these people. I’ve tried to educate him even showing him my 2 oleds. He doesn’t see a difference. Can’t win them all. He’s rather spend his money on a mid level Samsung instead of buying a tcl or hisense.

I love my S95B, Samsung on the other hand I want to strangle, they forced firmware 1420 on me with auto update disabled, 1304 was perfect, when I called, the Samsung rep apologized for the inconvenience and said he'd roll back my update, I freaked out asking him how that's even possible, he said they have that ability remotely and had me connect them to the remote manager in my settings, I watched this dude load a blue service menu screen with 1008 firmware information on it and my heart soared with happiness, 20 minutes in we disconnected, I called back and couldn't reach him again, every other Samsung rep I spoke to told me that's not possible except 1 that explained they are trained to only update and not roll back even if their system lets them, meaning Samsung invaded my personal property against my will, f*cked up my tv, and even though they can undo their illegal actions, absolutely refuse to, like I said I love my S95B, but I will NEVER support Samsung again after that 5 hour nightmare, I'll ride on my downgraded S95B till Sony comes out with some larger QD-OLEDs, you know I've been one of Samsung's most avid supporters since the S95B released FOMO, but this experience has put me through more anguish than anyone spending this much on a product should ever have to deal with

I find Samsung to hit the sweet spot with value. They're rarely the absolute best TV. They are also not the budget TV. But they can get you close to the best at a great price. So they provide the best value for money if you want close to the best. Like this year the A95K was arguably better. But the Samsung delivered something almost as good but at a better price.
