For traditional trees works on the ground I am addicted to Husqvarna for the engine and the agronomy However, I dislike the metal from their cutting chain wich I replace soon as I can by Oregon products or a Stihl cutting chain for the hardness of the steel but when it comes to brush cutters, lawn maintenance, leaf blowing and aerial pruning I prefer Stihl despite the few design defects ..

I know that Husqvarna is very difficult to get parts from. I waited for a year and a half for just an exhaust gasket for the muffler on a 550xp Mark II. If I ran a tree service business I would most likely run Stihl because of the parts issue with Husqvarna. I'm just a hobbyist and run mainly 372xp clones. Parts are easy to come by for these so I don't have any issues keeping things going. Dealer support in your location is the most important thing when it comes to running a tree service business. Time is MONEY!

My opinion, there are 3 good brands of saws. Husqvarna, Stihl, and Echo. I have one of each. Echo may not be bleeding edge technology or screaming fast, but they are reliable. Anyway, don't buy by the brand, buy by the dealer. My stihl dealer is too expensive for repairs, and acts like they are doing you a favor. The very best dealer in my town was a Husqvarna dealer. He died. So now I have an Echo chainsaw and backpack blower. Echo prices are way better. The dealer is pretty good too. I always buy my 2 stroke mix there so we stay acquainted.

I live in metro Atlanta and my 32 year old Husqvarna 50 is still the first saw I use. My MS261 Stihl has not. been used that much since I prefer the Husqvarna. However, there are no dealers that service Husqvarna. The only issue I ever had with the 50 was the oiler and that required me taking it up to my hometown in North Georgia (90 miles away) for service. All Husqvarna dealers seem to be going the way of the Dodo bird (except the cheaper versions sold at Lowes, and Northern Tool) in my area. It is a shame, but having worked for two Scandinavian telecom companies, it is par for the course when they sell products in the U.S. Once again a real shame.

I'm telling you as a mechanic that has spent years and years dealing closely with Husqvarna dealer support, I am very troubled by your frustrations and negative thoughts. I have never ever had these problems you speak of. I know Husqvarna does want your business so shoot a call to customers support, I'm confident someone there can turn this situation more positive. Never had an issue with a Husqvarna , Stihl or Echo you should make sure you mixing your fuel properly 50:1 mix is better than 40:1 to much mix can cause engine to over heat that is for any 2 stroke. to much mix sometimes your engine wont start/ loss of power or carb needs tuning. do NOT run saw to lean or ANY 2 stroke. good luck with your Stihls

I worked in a lawn mower shop for 10 yrs. A "Silver Certified" Stihl tech isn't worth the paper they are handed at the end of training. I worked on 4 cycle products. One day, a small stihl chainsaw came in for repair. The 2 cycle guy worked on it. Hooked up the computer to it, no change. Then he worked on the carb, installed parts. Retest, no change. He calls back the owner of the shop, they piddle with it, no change. The parts guy came back and checked it. No change. Both owner and parts guy "Stihl Silver Certified". I asked them if they pulled off the muffler and test it. They did as I asked. Ran like a brand new unit. After 3 hrs of various certified techs messing with it, original tech threw it in the garbage. But what do I know, I'm just 4 cycle and diesel certified.

You understandably probably dont want to waste time messing around with that kinda stuff because you have a business to run, but if you are like me, and enjoy working on saws just for the fun of it. the chinese parts are cheap and available, you can install them quickly if you know what you're doing, and in my experience, they just work.

555 Husky had it 2 years but has been a hard saw to start from the beginning. My first saw was a Husky 61 made in 1979 in Sweden, I bought it used and it started easy every time, you could leave it for 6 months and it would start first time. I have run so many Stihl saws which have been good but the quality went down when the Berlin wall came down and turned to trash when production went to China. I have a big old Echo which starts first pull every time, I have been given a 1980 Sachs Dolmar saw a real big one not used for 5 years. new plug and fresh fuel it starts second pull every time. the Husky 555 can take 25 pulls and splutters for a while but fine when it finally goes. I don't have a favorite brand. I like chainsaws. That being said, I have noticed the auto tunes are bad to start if you run them out of gas. Maybe that's some of your issues. No question that echoes are heavier, but once you get the low side a little richer, they usually start really well. Even with carburetor saws, if they are too lean on the low side, they always start harder. The other plus for an echo is its easier to take the saw being pinched or run over. Not so expensive. You do have to get the x series for commercial work.

I would rather run a Chinese Stihl clone than a Husqvarna...

I’ve run my cheap 455 for 12 years no issues and I have used it a lot, also bought a 576xp a little heavy but no issues.

576 is one of Husky’s worst pro models. Every machine made will eventually have an issue. I’ve had crap Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo, Etc. It’s you, not the machine. Educate yourself on how to fix things or get a repair man. Much like a vehicle. It’s like Chevy vs Ford nonsense.

Hahaha the husky fanboys will go on the defense. I have worked for tree service companies and by far sthil saws have a longer service life. The Husqvarna stuff is smooth and powerful, but ive never really been satisfied in all weather conditions with them. Very finicky. Echo is a really good company. Heavy and not fast, but cheap and damned reliable

Stihl rules now! You also need to get a Milwaukee battery powered pole saw!
