Thank you for spot lighting specific hoyas again and your experience with them. You have some very unique ones which without this type of video would be unknown to myself and others.

I am glad if I introduced you to this species then! Very easy to grow and not hard to find at all :)

About mealybugs.... buying ladybugs have reeeeally helped that situation. I bought it on Amazon. Ladybugs 🐞 eat them right up as well as many other bugs❤

You keep ladybugs at home? 👀

Nice! Sadly, we can't get any beneficial insects here (and there is no Amazon either)

@walle5667 yes in my plant room where they love to live and snack on bugs that are not beneficial 🤣

It is so crazy how we can all have such different growing experiences even when we are trying to mimic their homeland. This is the only hoya I have grown to get brown tips and it seemed to happen after regular watering. Almost like the guttation drip tip browning from too much water in Alocasia, so I held back. I saw a rapid change. Happiness. I was sure you were going to say they liked it on the drier side. Wrong! Mine have less humidity, same mix. Lots of light. Minimal water consumption. Go figure. I love it. They keep us on our toes.
@BasiePlants10 ай бұрын
Oh really? Interesting! Mine definitely appreciates more water (which really for me just means regular watering lol) But I can see that it can go very quickly wrinkly - much sooner than my other hoyas!

Beautiful plant! I find it looks a lot like my benvergarai (the couple of leaves I have left 😅) I love the job you did on trellising the benguetensis! The leaves all drape perfectly 👏 👏
@BasiePlants10 ай бұрын
They really are nice on this trellis! And yes, they look very much alike, both flowers and leaves.

About the color. I tried to grow a morning glory called Scarlet -- it was supposed to be a red variety. It was always hot pink instead. Years later while working at a botanical garden as a gardener I asked my boss about this. He said pH can affect the color I think reds even more so. Hope that helps! Lol But isn't it beautiful! I would love to have that one in my collection!
@BasiePlants10 ай бұрын
Yes, pH can affect the color, that is true :) But in Hoyas, so can the temperature. Take amrita for example :) Or even some obscura, 'Sunrise', lacunosa... their flowers tend to get more pink when it is cooler. The same is true for 'Patricia' - from white to pink :)

Hi Miro, I can see a Hoyas of Borneo book on your book shelf. Is it good ? Worth buying? It’s expensive so was just wondering what you think and would you or not recommend it.

I'm wandering if the ph of the soil has an impact on the coloration of the blooms.. With hydrangeas depending on the ph of the soil you get a variety of blue to red tones. Acidic soil produces blue flowers, alcaline Red flowers. Since you grow your plant in organic and your friend in anorganic soil, the ph might be the key difference, not the light!
@BasiePlants10 ай бұрын
I think there are some growers in Sweden who grow it in organic mix too and it still blooms a different color. Also, you really are supposed to pH down in pon as these are plants that like their potting mix slightly acidic. I think it could be temperature difference more than anything, really :) Same way amrita blooms different color depending on the warmth.
