I still have my 06 from 06. There are plenty of mods you can do. It’s still my favorite open course bike. Change the sprockets to your riding style, and get the fork springs set for your weight, along with shock spring. Get a lithium battery. Saves about 6/7 pounds, get a slip on exhaust. Saves more weight. 04 YZ450 rear fender fits too if you don’t want the light. Get a Boyesen quick shot 3 works really well. Also the Boyesen water pump. It helps really well with cooling. Chassis flexes much better than the aluminum chassis.

As I only just now stumbled onto your video here , I wanted to chime in with my opinion of my 20 plus year love affair with my ‘99 first generation WR-400 F . Hands down , it’s been the most reliable and Fun Motorcycle I’ve ever owned , and Because I bought it already set up with full Street legal Baja Designs lighting kit , and is Registered for street use , I can ride almost anywhere & anytime of year my heart desires here in San Diego Ca. The Designers of these 5 valve wonders sure as hell hit a home run outta the park in my opinion, and I know they made small improvements or changes each year as they inched up from 400 to 426, & then the 450 models like you have in this video. Aside from religious oil changes & keeping filters clean & only 1 valve adjustment (😳) in my ownership time , it still starts almost every time on 2-3 kicks cold , and still runs like the day I bought it . I’ve personally put over 10,000 miles on it , just using it for weekend desert or mountain trail rides & for almost 8 years in a row did the Annual 2 day , 300 plus mile Anza Borrego Desert Dash races held each year in February. Now I’m 63-1/2 & unfortunately don’t get out as often as I used to or should these days , but from a reliability standpoint I can highly recommend any of the WR series Yamaha’s as long as you take care of them maintenance wise. You get outta them what you put into them. C-ya out on the trails.😎👍

You are experienced and it shows. I was just looking at another video and the guy bad mouthed this bike. He was a slow rider that didn't like twisting the throttle or feathering the clutch to gain speed. He had some tuning tech info for elevation, which maybe helpful, but never got into the stock suspension or any other ergos(weight,SAG). Yamaha has continued to make a great reliable product, that in my mind is the paramount of the heap.

One thing you need to watch out for is the first gen wr/yz450's 04-06 had a lower connecting rod oiling problem, it can take out the engine in a single ride. But good new is yamaha makes all the parts needed to fix it, they just only fixed the problem on the YFZ450 quads only for some weird reason. you change the clutch side case, install the high flow oil pump and oil squirter bullet proof engine after that. my 04 WR450's now street legal and ready for on/off road adventures with a completely brand new engine case's and all.

I’ve always wanted a motorcycle since probably 2010…. And no matter what bikes I’ve ridden or test ridden or looked at, I always come back to FZ-09, but i wouldn’t wanna ride it off-road. A WR450, or a Zero FX. Zero is stupid expensive, range kinda sucks, takes too long to charge, and the bike is very lackluster off road. I have a Sur Ron and it’s a blast, but range sucks. Charges quick and it’s cheap. But WR450 is for sure looking like the way to go.

But the shops charge you a fortune and my backyard mechanic just had surgery so I don't want to bother him right now. My question is two days ago I was going to ride my bike, but noticed the header muffler was orange hot and that didn't look right. The bike sounds fine as usual but didn't want to take a chance so turned it off. Hey Rado, I know this is an older video but I had a question about the new version of this bike (2020 WR450F). I'm thinking about selling my KTM next year and perhaps looking into the WR450F. I currently ride on the road to reach my trails and they are about 15 miles away. Some are only 4 miles away and others are 8. If the pavement trip exceeds 20 miles, I will just use my truck. However, sometimes I like the convenience of just leaving from my house to the trails. Long story short, would a WR450F work well as a mostly dirt focused dual sport? Would it do okay on non-highway roads (55mph) for like 15 - 20 minutes? I've done some reading online and heard a few mixed things. People say it's a competition bike not meant for the road and the compression is so high the engine needs rebuilding every 100 hours. Others (like you) speak highly of the machine and appreciate the Japanese engineering. Fuel range is another concern but that should be fixable with aftermarket tank. What are your overall thoughts, can this bike live to be an enduro dual sport? Thanks.
@dirtniron3 жыл бұрын
I think it will make a great dual sport for the need you are explaining. I used to have 2019 wr450 and loved that bike. Check out my review on that bike, just do the search on KZbin

I've had mine in storage and going to hope nothing has changed too much since the storage. other than doing Oil and Air-filter maintenance, does fuel system( carbs/jets etc.) need to be removed and serviced . also how far until any major " top end rebuild " do these engines require service ? mine is a converted Supermoto but I plan on riding off-road again . thanks Rado ( BTW: I completed most all of the "free-Mods/uncorking " you described from videos you did a few years ago: Huge Improvement ! )

The power is nowhere near close. The WR250R is slow in comparision. The maintenance,however, is amazing. Valve check is at like 20,000 miles or something crazy like that. It is a very good bike, especially since you can find a good one for around 3.5k. I got lucky and found a supermoto WR450 for the same price. Carb bike, however, and need to change the oil at least 4 times for every one change you'd do with a WR250R. WR250R actually has 6 gears so it cruises better on the highway, but takes forever to get there.

@@dirtniron sorry for my English but if you know few things its important to avoid aluminium,so all European KTM&more they never put aluminium so all the "old"yamaha before aluminum are good but 2007&a couple models after are very good until aluminum model's came. Specific after 2007 they put this how can i put it hm... its like a metallic nail that helps lubricate.I hope you understand me bro ;)Google it.

Upgrading from a KLX 250 which I felt lacked power, even after the mods and a Big One Pipe. Can't decide between a YZ and WR. Il be riding on the road and on trials, no racing. Any advice? Also, how much faster is the Wr450 vs KLX, from setting off to top end? Love your content !
@dirtniron5 жыл бұрын
wr450 with free mods is a rocket, way faster than 250klx.. if you want to ride trails and road then wr makes more sense I think

@dirtniron6 жыл бұрын
I've ridden husky 350te which is like KTM exc model. It felt great, light and powerful, good suspension. Not sure if its fair comparing 2004 wr to 2014 exc.. but that te(exc) felt great!

Hmmm I got a 2013 wr450 I ride a lot of single track and harder stuff it’s way too heavy, i would say the suspension is great , the low end torque great, everything else 😕 I just bought a beta350 I prefer it a lot more for the type of riding I do,

Hi rado, i discovered your channel a month ago and was into dirt riding (although i used to ride on roads). And now im getting a 2016 ktm exc 250 as its second owner. Since i dont know much about 2T engines, which oil/fuel ratio should i use, most guys on forums says 40/1 is better than recommended 60/1, but then why would ktm suggest smth bad for their engines? Im really confused. Also 1 more thing i need to ask, im not sure about this but is there any kind of valve that you need to switch in order to stop fuel/oil mix getting in the carb (i heard that it accumulates and clogs the jets) before you put it in garage for let say a week or two? I’ll be appreciated if you can help me out :)
@dirtniron6 жыл бұрын
hi Mehmet, very good bike choice congrats! I would follow KTM recommendation on the mixture ratio. There is petcock (valve) on the tank that you can turn on/off and some bikes into reserve as well. Its on the bottom of the tank, the fuel line from petcock goes to carburetor. hope that helps

Why do enduro bikes have 18 inch wheels?

more rubber, bigger footprint - more traction, less pinch flat, etc..
