A very good example of a real life landing in a storm. Far from max crosswind, but you can see the kind of inputs needed and how the plane responds to them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKrbZYGvgtephdU

What do you mean Just because "veteran simmers" can't handle it?? I think you will find "veteran simmers" can handle it and will want it to stay as described in this video. It is reasons like this that "veteran simmers" are coming to MSFS from other sims, because finally MSFS is now getting realistic and it is/was the "veteran simmers" that constantly complained even in the face of the "fly now" simmers who want everything easy! so I really dont get your comment??
@A330Driver
@A330Driver Жыл бұрын
@@delg551 The "veteran simmers" quote is originally one I picked up in the PMDG forum and reused in the comment here. It was made in a context where someone claimed he is a "veteran MSFS user" and can no longer land aircraft in the sim and thus this "bug" has to be removed again. I picked it up in this context because "veteran MSFS user" for me refers to people who only know how flight dynamics in MSFS work but have no idea how it works in real aviation and thus deny any chance that makes things drastically different like the gust model with SU X. Truth is, there are quite some more of these changes that would be necessary that would make it a lot harder for people to fly in the sim, which are still overdue.

I'm a 600hrs private pilot, not a CFI, not airline pilot, nothing, so just take it for what it's worth. I couldn't agree more. I flew over mountainous region with 25kts wind and at times I was at the limit of loss of control. *Just like in real life*. The model is finally great. If Asobo want to dumb it down, they will make a mistake. They should put a realism slider and let people do what they want.

Not a pilot myself, but I know a bunch - which counts for about as much as Dark Helmet's relationship to LoneStar in Spaceballs. But regardless, I couldn't agree more. Sometimes I do like the simplicity of just circling around lazily and touring around, marvelling still at the clouds, sunsets, and scenery. But most of the time, I want the challenge. I'd probably use full "realism" all the time (I don't turn on like "auto rudder" or other such make-easy niceties) but there could be a good argument for adding a realism slider. Like for my daughter who is just "starting out" with simming - it's fair and reasonable without dropping away the ability to keep full realism for those who want it. All they literally would have to do is simply allow for the gust portion to be scaled from 0-100% on live weather with a single slider in the assists area.

As a lowly GA bugsmasher, gusts and turbulence are a very real part of what's going on. It's amazing how much easier things are when you aren't getting tossed around regularly. Of course, in MSFS, there should be the option to turn it off, but you can't have realism without gusts.

I've been on a flight once where for 2 hours the jet was just getting tossed around like being on a mechanical bull. That seat belt was as tight a it could go so I can stay on the seat, as I watched out the window seeing the wings flexing an insane amount. Nice video, and appreciate the realism in flying. As a former private pilot I never forgot my first attempts at crosswind landing at close on maximum crosswind component at Augustine airport in a C152, I soon learnt on a high wing aircraft that wing down into wind worked best rather than trying to crab in us using rudder. I became quite proficient at crosswind landings, and successfully landed a C172 at Le Touquet (Paris Plage) at double the recommended crosswind component for that aircraft, and on that particular day I witnessed two aircraft collapse their undercarriage attempting to land in such conditions. I was behind a Britten Norman Islander that took off in those winds and watched it struggle to maintain runway heading and then upon liftoff go sideways to the runway. When I took off I held nose down to well past recommended lift off speed an snatched the aircraft into the air gently turning into wind and barely covering any actual ground speed. I was the last departure from Le Touquet on that day.

Yep i like it very much, feels more real to fly, these people should take a first flight on a hot summer day under some cumulus... Also something i find off in FS, i'd like your opinion on it, when you decrab the plane(any plane actually) i feel like you can stay about 10 seconds with rudder(right or left) and wings LEVEL while keeping the same track, only after you start drifting away from centerline if you don't lower the wing in the wind. IRL as soon as i decrab i must roll a little bit to keep the same track and landing is like "main right then main left and then center" Thx

Great commentary. I’ve always felt that their turbulence models were good, and now they feel even more natural with the update. My only issue in the past is getting mechanical turbulence when the winds were calm and the temps were mild. That was the unrealistic part. They fixed that on this go-around. But the best way to measure their work is to fly a sim flight and then soon after fly a real flight like I often do in light aircraft, and you’ll see the feel is identical. We just need a bit more work on the flight models (some 3rd party companies are doing a great job on their aircraft) and ILS glideslope behavior close to and beyond minimums and we’ll be great in MSFS2020.

Indeed, as of now it's still quite a change after some sim flying on my days off when I'm stepping into the real aircraft again. But it's slowly but steadily getting less.

@@A330Driver Oh, definitely. I always find flying the real airplane a lot easier. But that works for me because I like the challenge of remaining disciplined in the sim (often too sensitive) to keep my skills sharp for the real world.

Nice demonstration, all Asbo need to do with theee new gust feature, is to put a setting option within settings for gusts to be:, off, low, medium or realistic..then it's there for everyone who loves it and toned down for those, who don't?

I would have trouble with this approach. But I also believe that the default goal of a flight simulator is to match real world flight as closely as possible. Then various settings and assists can be added on to make it easier if desired.

Great! Now somebody gotta tell Asobo that we need wake turbulence next please. I remember when that one was introduced to DCS and all self-proclaimed "veteran simmers" started crying about "it's unrealistic because it's too much" etc.. Honestly most of these veteran simmers have exactly the same amount of real piloting times as i have (0 hrs, that is) and are just stuck in their bubble doing the same thing over and over again for years, feeling they know all about it (i've been there, too). That means whenever technology improvements enables flightsims to become more realistic a "veteran simmer's" world gets rocked: Formerly familiar things change to something unknown, but in their minds they knew it all for years and years already so whatever is new / changed / added "cannot be realistic" to them.

Would *love* a good wake simulation! Just departed PMI a few days ago behind a Lufthansa A321 with minimum separation. Even though everything was legal we needed full aileron to keep the plane level when we entered their wakes. Very unfavorable wind conditions on that day which kept the wakes right in our flight path.

You cannot make accurate assumptions about how realistic a simulator is without flying the actual aircraft. Having flown the 737 there are big differences in the way that the PMDG handles, rotation rate, the behaviour in the flare so on and so forth. Even the level D simulators lack complete realism when it comes to the flight model as each 737 will fly slightly differently. However, this hits the nail on the head, he is able to operate the aircraft manually down the approach in the gusty conditions and maintain somewhat stabilised approach criteria. I think this makes the sim much more dynamic, I’d happily take away the ‘on rails’ effect that you get with some simulators to introduce more sporadic and squirrely conditions. And on top of this, he still has the capacity to have a conversation about the handling (not making the aircraft ‘unflyable’). The weather is as unflyable as you want to make it in the sim, but if you ask for gusts, you are going to get them!

Yeah, unfortunately all sim limitations ins MSFS. I pointed the same things out during the beta but nothing could be done. We've lived with these for a long time, I'm sure if MSFS would finally give us a good pitch/thrust couple nobody could fly the plane anymore.

I certainly agree. I went to a level D simulator recently. I have flown the 737 for many many hours in xplane and P3D with a yoke. I was very very confident. Once getting there i couldnt do a single smooth or satisfactory landing. The aircraft are stupidly difficult to fly. The feeling of the weight of the aircraft doesnt convoy properly in any simulator apart from the professional training ones.

I throughly enjoy the latest weather dynamics. All too easy to sit there aircraft perfectly calm and hit record. Where I fly irl and in sim is notorious for gusts

So simmers, keep on banging about wanting a simulation, but when it becomes too 'real' they just don't like it because it becomes too hard to fly? I really hope Asobo DO NOT dim down on the simulation factor! Thank you for the video.

Well, this explains why the Kodiak which flew stable with live weather and thus seemed unrealistic in the real world prior to this upgrade now bounces around quite a bit more. I agree with 737NG, Asobo needs to keep the turbulence model as is .

Why can't they just add a setting for realistic gusts so people can chose what they want? I don't want it reduced either.

I think people need to remember that this is a simulator, and not a game (although it has many game-like features). If you can't fly an aircraft in turbulent conditions in the sim, then either 1) learn to fly in those conditions 2) reduce your difficulty settings and turn off the weather. If Asobo start catering only for the less-experienced sim users, then they will be limiting a huge, but optional, market for those who like 100% realism. It should be a balance, not a bias. Ultimately, the experience can be customised to a users' liking, which should account for both those that want an easy pootle around in a C152 in fair weather, or those that want to fly a 737 into the wall of a hurricane...
