Used to play this game but it’s so boring with the grinding and its illogical storyline. Add to that constant attacks by other players equals losing very important resources that you can’t advance whatsoever. Literally every day I login to it my Starbase has been attacked and destroyed and all of my ships and a lot of my resources raided (aka: stolen)! It’s literally pay-to-win and a waste of money and time just to play it.

The Regent class is indeed a nice looking 25th centurified Sovereign and an interesting focus on the diplomatic suites for it. Starfleet -gunboat- battlestarship diplomacy. I'd add that while many of the early STO variants have their design issues, the naming scheme is on point. Also, that was quite the Fleet Command sponsorship there.

I picked up the Regent when it came out 10-ish years ago, and kitbashed it with the Sovvie secondary hull and nacelle struts to make something beautiful and memorable. Also that wide-angle quantum torpedo launcher was aces.

@@venomgeekmedia9886 I'll tell you why! After the V'ger incident Starfleet goes into both defensive and offensive mode. In late 2273 the UFP realize they need to have ships and vessels that can provide a rapid and maximum response to unknown threats that could decimate the galaxy. So in 2274/75 Three experemental ships are created, called Project Kusanagi. The vessels constructed were The USS Atlantis (NX-1933), USS Kusanagi (NX-2101), and the USS Warspite (NX-1977) Ultimately, it was decided that after these ships were constructed that the Kusanagi Class was in need of revisions, but with tensions between the Romulans and Klingons cooling down...not to mention a classified temporal incident with the Warspite in 2275....plans and future developments were shelved and the remaining prototypes were broken down and salvaged. It would be about a century before the plans of the Kusanagi Class were rediscovered and modernized into the Akira Class.

@@venomgeekmedia9886 There's that, but I do actually prefer to see the Akira as something of at least an *escort carrier* with a lot of torpedoes, hence on the bigger side, whereas the Andor would be more of a smaller missile cruiser. Pretty design, the 'TMP Akira' though, even without the carrier notion, though, with ties back to the NX-01, of course. I do tend to favor the idea of a bigger and more diverse Starfleet than some crisis-heavy 'only ship in the quadrant' movies and such imply, just cause space is still impossibly-incomprehensibly huge in volume even at warp speeds, and also I have to assume other Federation species are doing things while the shows focus mostly on the Human end. Probably room for plenty of ship classes to overlap in functions, basically.

People wanted the TMP looking Akira-class that’s why it was made and to make money off of it since people wanted it, it was put into a Bundle with a new Valdore/Norexean variant. Plus the Archon-class Assault Cruiser actually looks very good when you actually look at it closely. I act have a character in STO where it’s her main ship. The only minor flaw with it is the nacelles are too thick but that’s a small price to pay when it’s far more powerful than the Regent-class especially when the Regent-class is a Tier 5 well the Archon-Class is a Tier 6

No aft torpedo tubes is hubris in the extreme. It needs six tubes and the ability to lay a minefield. The lack of aft torpedo tubes sounds like what the British did in Singapore. Great big guns that could not shoot inland. Thinking that the enemy would never advance through the jungle. I am reminded of Confederate General Forest who said “Hit them where they ain’t.”

The Regent is my favorite of the STO ships. Initially when I got a hold of it. I didn't think much of it. Another sovereign and one that just happened to look a hell of a lot nicer than the monstrosities before it. I had Oddessy and several other ships that were Tier 6 so I kinda left it alone. Got back to it when I updated it to a T5-X. The Regent with what I have it with is a beast of a ship that tears through almost anything. In a strange way the T5-X fits comfortably with its Tier 6 Odessy counterpart.

You make an interesting point about Flagships and perhaps how the duty and in fact the layout of the Flagship. I recall my Uncle told me that the HMS Hood had wooden decks, I don't know if that the Hood was unique in that she was the only ship of her class that had the Decks, but it certainly sounds atypical of what one would expect. It certainly had the duty to ferry the Kng abroad, so the Enterprise may have had certain duties most Galaxy class vessels would have.

So after the sovereign was the federations battle cruiser work horse during the burg and dominion wars. Very successfully one may add. The regent is a massive upgrade and next step development on that ship line design. Taking the sovereigns weaknesses into account and removing them, while further enhancing and improving them into a true battleship design. Though the removal of aft torpedoes do worry one in respect of how capable it be in dealing with attacks from behind.

So if a ship has regenerative ablative armor does it not still need to uh ...be "fed" for lack of a better term as damage is taken naturally matter is removed as shrapnel that can't be recovered mid battle thus needing the nanites to be given more matter to affect their repairs?

I have to disagree with you regarding the the Galaxy class ships. Pre Dominion, eveyone from the Talarians ("Darmok"), to the Romulans ("Tin Man"), to Ferengi in junkyard Birds of Preys ("Rascals"), to alien probes ("Arsenal of Freedom", "The Nth Degree"), were slapping the Galaxy class around quite a bit. Also, in "The Jem,Hadar", the Galaxy class Odyssey, was unable to destroy ANY of those Jem'Had bug ships, even WITH the assisstance of two Runabouts. It was unable to get the job done. Combat wise, the pre Dominion Galaxy class was a DUD.

the only example there which actually reflects badly on the galaxy class is Rascals as those BOPs are Specifically identified as B'rels (smaller) so yeah big oopsie on that. but it was probably evenly matched against the tamarians (Neither really wanted a fight) and yeah the D'deridex beats it... because the D'deridex is more than twice the size. and i don't really think strange alien probes count since they are as powerful as the plot demands

Their shields were holding, while the Ent-D shields were completely gone, and Data specifically says that "Commander, we can not sustain another hit". Also, in "Tin Man", the Romulan Warbird reduced the Ent-D's shields down by 70% with just a few shots, and those were only "flyby shots" while they were pursuing the "Tin Man" entity, so if they had really opened up on the Ent-D, the Ent-D would have been toast. Throughout TNG, we were TOLD how "powerful" the Galaxy Class was, but what was SHOWN was quite a different matter. Other than that point, I though that you did a great, in depth job on the Regent class.

Ah, yes the Dominion. At that point in the story no Alpha Quadrant power had any defense against polaron weapons and she still was limping home until the kamikaze attack. Saying it did bad against the Dominion is an argument of ships without shields are weaker than ships with shields. However when the shields do work, we get the Wandering Galaxys of the Sacrifice of Angels. Venom should get that reference.

If you want to say a Galaxy on a rescue mission with effectively no shields is weak against small fast attack ships with shields, then you have a point. That is the same argument most people use to support the Defiant being the best ship in Trek after all. It also cherry picks a very slim and one sided example, not backed by any other evidence. Now to say the Galaxy is a dud is flat out bad statement as it does not give criteria for how the ship is being judged. If you say the Galaxy is a warship, and that is your criteria, I flat out say that is wrong. The Galaxy is not a warship. It is closer to an armed science or diplomatic vessel. A mobile star base is you go off the warp core, but not a warship. So how are you deciding it is a dud? Your criteria? I can understand mocking "poloron" as it is a fake word I misspelled, but weapons? If you want to mock that, at least use triple quotes.

The Legendary version of the Regent is my go-to for my main character. However, I've modified the design slightly and created the Virginia-class by swapping out the Regent-class pylons for the Sovereign-class ones. This results in an even longer, sleeker look and reduces the frontal surface area since the Sovereign-class pylons are swept back and bring the nacelles down a bit.

In defence of STO, the design process for the hero ships in the shows and films took weeks or months to end up at the final design. Whereas budget and time limitations on the STO art department likely force them to produce as much as they can as quickly as they can.

I think it's a good opportunity to ask, but what do you think about the command battle cruiser? They are my favorite sto designs, and I like to think they were created with a allied fleet operatin with the klingons and romulans in mind. Also, how the allied fleet from dominion war (and sto conflicts) operate? Mixed classes wings, or something larger in scale?

Also venom not sure if u would see this but as the odyssey got the yorktown upgrade to be a tactical super capital becoming a warship, what would u think the regent class would become if it got a refit/redesign after the iconian war? My view is that it would become a pure bred warship leaving its diplomatic duties to the justiciar class

The regnant is like a sleek and armored version of the sovereign. It also has that Andromeda class look but with heavy ablative armor. May have done better than the enterprise-e against the scimitar in nemesis.

I've always found the design interesting; reminds me of the 26th century designs, though clearly not as advanced. It makes me think a ship designer was teleported into the future long enough to see the Universe class and a few others and then sent back to the 24th. Not long enough to create a huge leap forward in technology, but just enough to bring back a design influence.

Maybe I’m just picking favorites but I’d still put money on the Sovereign over the 2 Galaxy classes because of its maneuverability and aggressive weapons placement from nemesis higher phaser type at launch. But that galaxy quantum or photon first strike vs a quantum turret and photon first strike would be a sight. Since the E and D are prone to crashing their saucers into things which has the better air bags?

The Galaxy class Dominion war variant was comarable to a stock Sovereign may be even edges it for me its my favourite class once refitted and fully upgraded the DW Galaxy class with quantums and multiphasic regenative shields and Class X1 phasers not many ships are taking this ship out 😅

Where did you source the information about the regenerating armour, weapon loadputs etc.? As others have said we can see that it does have rear torpedo launchers. But 7 pulse phasers? Take the archon and swap the nacelles with Imperial and you have a lovely design. Also take a look at the black indentations on the rear either side of the shuttle bay. Do I see Torpedo tubes?

I must say. Seeing all of these starfleet designs for starships is very impressave, but I'm Left, wondering, why am I not seeing the Self armor technology that voyager. Brought back from the Future. Captain Jane way That helped them to get home sooner than they would have. I would. Love to see that technology added on to starships. Where you just hit a button. And this impenetrable shield goes all over the ship. Including the warp neselle's.

The Regent seems like a hybridized diplomatic craft/flagship with lots of empty space to use for luxury and events and to show the flag. The Oddyssey is built for, as you said, long range deployments for years on end without resupply. So is anything of the era built up purely as a heavy combat starship or does Starfleet in this era prefer to make their pure combat vessels more cruiser scaled rather than Battlecruiser/Battleship? Ie, something like the Regent but where most of that space is in turn used for weapons, armor, energy, etc. Or is there in turn thanks to the technology no remote reason to build a bigger ship purely for that and more compact ones rule the day when going for a ship of a singular purpose?

I always felt the Sovereign class was a repurposed starship. Where it mattered, the Galaxy failed in deep space exploration, especially with its large civilian population. It worked as a mobile Starbase, colony ship, surveyor, and diplomatic Starship but was inadequate as a First Contact ship as it was vulnerable to combat. I felt the Sovereign and possibly the Akira were initially meant to complement the Galaxy. They would scout the area, make first contact, and report back. If they lose personnel for they need to stay and fight to keep an area of space Starfleet claimed, they can find replacements with the Galaxy. We know that even before the Borg invasion, the people designing the Galaxy were already working on the next generation, including the Akira. As they share many designs between the Galaxy and Sovereign, it seemed like a go-between design, similar to the Intrepid. We know this with the Hologram of that Engineer as she mentioned they were working on them after the Galaxy Class's first launch. However, the Borg happened, and with a need for defense and to get it out quickly, I can see Starfleet Engineers looking at the Sovereign and Akira, which were meant to be more combat-capable than the Galaxy, for their anti-borg cruiser-size fleet and focusing on making them more lethal while retaining some design aspects that were meant for deep space exploration.

Imo, the Aurora is distinct enough from the Nova. In fact, when I first saw it, I didn't make the connection at all, and that's saying something, because I *love* the Nova, it's my favorite ship. So, I think it works just fine, although I do think it'd look so much better with a neck. Also the Matsumoto _kind of_ works as a missing link between the Akira and NX, but frankly that shouldn't need to be a thing in the first place. Who on Earth thought Akiraprise was a good idea???
