Origin looks like it would be a great addition. Being retired I just can't swing it. However I can always hope to win a small lottery. So I will keep watching your videos on this.

Thanks for watching! Yeah it's not a cheap device for sure. I saw one on my local craigslist for $2500, so still pricey.

As a hobbyist I want one, but I'm glad you point out the pay to play.. I'll shell out the $3500, but the auto pass is greedy at $199, should be $49 max for gen 1 and included in gen 2... and $100 a year to make the thing easier to use with studio is also a no go for me. It's software I'd prob only use a few times a year, top that with the overpriced tape, I'm out. If they want to go subscription based, and pay for updates, then the intro price needs to be halved. I'll still want one, but their current business model is too much of a turn off to want to make that sort of investment... what a shame

I agree on the entry price--especially if the model becomes paying for each upgrade. Otherwise, as is the case now, it really ends up costing more like $4k to get into it. I love it and use it all the time, but it seems like they could be more flexible with the pricing if they want to target a larger audience. But maybe they don't?

Bro your circular patch is missing all the strength that a traditional butterfly shape adds... Otherwise good info. I have and use all the shaper items and yeah too bad autopass isn't just included in the machine. And the $99 for studio is cheap but mist of us are already paying for a higher level of CAD I.e. vcarve pro like myself or some type of autocad

No doubt. Purely decorative patch. Part of what makes it fun is for unique designs, even if it isn't structural.

Them charging money for Autopass, especially THAT MUCH money feels really bad to me. I'm actually less OK with that than I am with the Studio pricing, since there *is* an easy way around not using Studio. Feels kinda like old-school crippleware software or BMW's seat heater fee to turn on the already-extant hardware .
@falknermakes
@falknermakes Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Especially since it's so vital for it to work as well as it can and it's a one time software update. I hope they don't make it a habit.

I love seeing innovative tools in our craft. I'm a woodworker that uses CNC to assist building custom furniture and all kinds of cool things. The subscription is maddening. I think presently I'd find the Shaper a bit too limiting at this stage, but be warned, you've started down a path you can't come back from. I just built a pair of modern, white oak coffee table legs out of 8/4 stock which to build by hand would be dangerous, time consuming and quite frankly difficult. But oh was it so worth it. Anyone that says CNC is cheating in woodworking doesn't know anything about CNCs, but be prepared for that comment too.

I agree on the subscription front--I'm not sure woodworkers are the kinds of folks you want to create subscription models for since most would probably find a different way and are trying to limit costs. As a hobbyist I'm okay with it since my income isn't woodworking based, but I don't like it on principle. How big is your CNC?
@5280Woodworking

@@falknermakes my CNC is 4x5 but honestly I rarely use the full capacity. I don’t build cabinets, I build furniture. I see so many hobbyists with the big beds and they rarely use them. I build a lot of custom pieces, legs, templates, etc and 2x3 or 3x4 would be plenty. Once you have one and learn the easy to follow Vectric software I use, it opens a whole new world.
