Dear Inés I first discovered you and your content via a collaboration you did with Tom Scott. This was a few months ago, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed exploring your videos since then. I will confess, my first reaction when I saw you for the first time was “OMG that braid!!!!” _falls in love_ And my first reaction to seeing this video was “NOOOOO!!” But of course it’s your decision and I absolutely respect that. Thank you for taking the time to talk about it, I can’t imagine what the comment section of your next few Draw Curiosity videos will be like, for all your followers who haven’t seen this… I’ve got long hair as well, but annoyingly it won’t grow any longer than about 2 foot - which on me (a 6’ 2” guy) isn’t even halfway down my back (it’s also curly), and I’ve always been envious of people who can grow their hair as long as you have. Silver lining, I haven’t spent one cent on haircuts in over 8 years since I started growing it out. Anyway, you’re an absolute delight (and the answer to “what would Muggle Hermione Granger be like?” ;) All the best, and I can’t wait to see your new look.

Cutting hair as long as yours is a really big deal, I understand it will be a big change for you. A number of years ago, a friend of mine had her hair down to her calves. She wanted to let it grow to her ankles and I had to kneel on the floor to trim her ends for her. Well one day she called and in the conversation I asked how her ends were looking as it had been a few months since I last trimmed her hair, so I knew she was due for a trim. Well she said she really needed a haircut, not just her ends trimmed. She said it has gotten to be too much, and she was ready to have it cut. So the next day she came to my house and I looked at her hair and asked her if she was sure. She told me she was, so please cut it. I asked her how much she wanted taken off, she said she didn’t care, just cut it. I suggested that I could cut her hair to her hips so she wouldn’t be sitting on it. I could cut it shorter in a couple weeks if she wanted, but I don’t want to cut it too short and have you unhappy with it. I held the section of hair to show her the length, she nodded and i handed her the shears and told her you take he first snip. She asked if I was going to make cut her own hair off, I told her that I want to be sure you want it cut, if not I could trim your ends. She took the shears and cut her hair. She held up the piece she cut and said that is a lot of hair. I continued to cut her hair off for her and then took the hair that I put on the table and wrapped it with her hair tie. She held it up looked at it. Then walked into the bathroom to check it out in the mirror. She said it is still long. I said give it a week or so, and then if you want me to cut it shorter, I can. Well a week went by and she called. She said her hair felt short, she was combing it and ran out of hair. I asked if she wanted to keep it at that length, or take more off. She said she was fine with the length and was glad I didn’t take it as short as she originally wanted me to. Follow on trims were to keep her hair trimmed so it would not get to the point where she would be sitting on it.

Personally I think-- given your circumstances-- you're actually making a great choice with this idea. My only question though is if you have any plans for the hair that'll be cut off? Do you think you'll donate it or something like that?
@fionafornarina3 жыл бұрын
No, long hair doesn't need much care, when you know the right ways of doing just what's necessary and avoid over-caring. And with the right hairstyles you can do sports and whatever you like. And especially when it's hot, I'm glad to can do up my long hair. But you don't seem to have long hair by conviction, so be happy with your now shorter hair.

Hair is so wild. I shaved my head for years because it was so nice to not have to think about it. It’s just waste - there’s no way anyone would have 14 or 30 inch fingernails and that’s obvious but people act like every woman should have 14-30 inch hair 😂 I’m glad you are doing what you want.

"Won't you miss it?" isn't really an argument against cutting your hair. After all, it'll keep growing, so it's not like you can't grow it out again (but maybe keep it "short" enough that you don't end up sitting on it all the time?) if you decide you want long hair after all.

I totally understand the love hate relationship with long hair. Detangling is a pain and I miss having a simple ponytail that won’t get tangled. I want to cut it off one moment and then the next I’m looking at long French braids that will probably not happen because it’s too much to do because it tangles as I French braid. Congratulations on graduating and reaching your goals. Best of luck in your new place!

Hi, do you have a comb with wide tines? That's basic for long haired people. Never comb your hair with combs with narrow standing teeth. And comb it first the tips and then you go up more with combing the rest, never from the head down to the tips at once.

Ah ah just found your channel and boom you have cut your hair. Basically, it seems like you had long hair by accident. It was fun to watch all your points. I do think short hair is bothersome because you cannot do much with it and I hate hair around my face or neck and not being able to put it up. As a curiosity, are you British or Spanish?
@RhymesWithFace4 жыл бұрын
I'm technically both, grew up in Spain, did all my university studies in the UK. For me it's been the opposite, I've finally been able to do little hairstyles I couldn't before because my hair would tangle 😅 but because my hair was very thick, I had to wait for greater lengths for certain buns to work (I used to be on LHC)

I also let my hair grow during university, but cut it before starting my PhD. For men is a bit more difficult, not only because of the stereotipes, but also there are some jobs that would require not such insane long hair due to safety reasons (like operating rotating machinery). I have a question that maybe is an idea for a video. How was your experience of learning two languages and how did your parents handle it when you were young? I am living abroad and speak spanish at home with my kids. Which strategy did your parents follow when you started learning how to write and read? Good luck with your hair cut and your career!!! I really love your videos.

(1) Lady Godiva was an English myth, so it's appropriate you had Lady Godiva hair in England and will get rid of it when you're no longer in England. (2) Due to your charming accent I couldn't make out a word the first time and went back with (automatically generated) captions on. The captions said "cats." That was close enough for me to realize you'd said "calves." (It was the soft British A that threw me off. Americans say calves with a much broader, less elegant A. We say it more like pre-training Eliza Doolittle and you said it like Henry Higgins.) (3) That hair IS gorgeous. That's not a reason not to cut it. But it is gorgeous. (4) You are very feminine -- no reason you can't be a tomboy and also feminine (I mean, let's have an enlightened view of femininity, here). But my first two adjectives for you would be smart and brave. The brave is for your battling through two different mental health issues and not merely surviving but thriving. If there's a problem, it's that you make it look so easy, when I'm sure behind the scenes it's not. (5) I may be forgetting a previous instance, but this is the sexiest I ever remember you letting yourself look on camera. Little tiny narrow waist, fit tummy; thank you, crop top. I guess it was because you're home, outdoors, in a park, with an ex. Not in England surrounded by cold air and your fellow academics with whom you maintain a professional distance. Looking good. (6) Are you donating the hair? I don't know if this is worldwide, but the US has charities where you can donate hair that's made into wigs for cancer patients whose treatment has caused them to lose theirs. Among the several in the US, the one with the best name is Locks of Love. Mechones de Amor (the first word in that needs an accent over the O; I don't have the slightest idea how to type that) doesn't have the same ring to it. Need a different name in Spanish.

I look forward to seeing you with the short hair. It'll be an exciting and interesting change. I would think too, it'd be like wearing a shawl or coat over your back. Given you're from a hot country to start with, and are going to live in a hotter, more humid climate, the last thing you'll want is to be wearing a hot coat all the time.

As a teenager I too had extremely long hair, about the length yours is now. When it was cut off - not my choice - by my mother's hairdresser, I cried for days. Then when I washed it for the first time, post-cut, I was in shock and awe at how much easier it was to do. I'm now in my late 50's and have never had that length of hair again. It is a liberating feeling to be able to just jump in the shower, wash your hair and self, and be out in less than 15 minutes, not to mention the money I've saved on all that shampoo and conditioner... At the end of the day, it's your hair, and life, so whatever you decide to do with either, no-one else's opinion should really matter...you do what works for you :)) All that hair should make a lot of wigs for sick kids, if that's what you decide to do with it :))

Will you be donating your hair to Locks of Love or something like that? My son did that. I believe you can mail it to them. They make wigs for kids who have lost their hair for medical reasons.
