Typical BS envy. Must be a Democrat. You don't know anything about this guy. Many times people who own general aviation aircraft sacrifice quite a lot to be able to fly. They may live in homes that are not the ultimate homes they would have bought, They may drive cars that are multiple years old instead of getting new cars, and they sacrifice in other ways so that they have the ability to fly. This trash talk by people who sit glued to their sofas hours a day watching TV and perusing social media is a ridiculous. Kudos to this gentleman for living his dream. Probably worked his **** off his entire life. California is purposely trying to kill general aviation believing that climate change is the most important thing as their cities burn and decay. But it will not affect the super wealthy such as George Soros or Bill Gates. Those of us who fly in general aviation do so with a mind always directed toward maximum economy possible. That's the way we afford to do it.

@pilotescapes6328 I thought this was a great video. Maybe some didn’t understand the purpose. The approach to 28R was fun. Yea you couldn’t hear all the Comms but that wasn’t what the video was about. The ATC calls were boiler plate with no exciting incident to hear honestly I’d rather hear the soundtrack knowing what an ILS approach is like. I understood the video to be a case and point of why you love “The City”. The emotion of the good things to see and do builds to make the point that KOAK has turned its nose on GA in favor of the corporate jets.which is a shame because of what is lost as a GA gate way to it all. This is happening all over and is a shame but with the growth of the Biz Jet community who of coarse focused on airports like KOAK to avoid the cost and hassle of SFO and SJC. It won’t be long before HWD, PAO or SQL pick up the slack. Another choice for you could be O69. You must try the 29’r dinner. Also being on the north side of the bay you could go direct to the fort.

I recently moved away from the Bay Area after 50 years to another state for many of the reasons you illustrated in your video. It is very sad to see all the changes and the seemingly unwillingness to change anything. I do come back quite often and I might suggest flying into Hayward or if your destination is San Francisco, San Carlos is also a good friendly airport. Neither of them are currently charging landing fees and have reasonable overnight fees. If fuel is your concern, a short trip to Tracy or almost anywhere outside of the bravo typically have at least a $1+ per gallon savings. Having said all that, San Francisco can still be amazingly enjoyable, but there are certain areas that need to be avoided particularly at night.

"But what you really need to recognize is that the just don't want GA there." 👍spot on statement. Signature FBO's are doing the same thing. Making it to expensive to park or get fuel for the weekend 172/Cherokee pilots. They do not want GA traffic. They want biz jets with their fat wallets and large fuel tanks. I self disqualified do to age and medical reasons a few years ago but when I was still active I would never land at any airport that only had Signature as an FBO. The squeeze on GA has been happening for quite a while now, but it's just getting more obvious.

No it's mostly because of liberal policies that have encouraged crime and to say crime is up by only 12% is just insane...Look, if it was caused by the pandemic, all cities would be suffering...I am intimately familiar with SF....It is in the toilet and will never get out...Major grocery stores and drug stores have pulled out...Why? Crime.. Not lack of business crime! Safeway and CVS and Walgreens specifically said, "CRIME"..The only in and Out Burger in Oakland just pulled out...I'm trying to remember why...Oh wait...It was "crime"...

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I landed at Oakland once several years ago on an Angel Flight Mission. They could not have been more helpful and waived the landing fees. It really felt like I was at a much smaller airport. Usually when flying into the Bay Area I have used San Carlos or Palo Alto. San Carlos has tricky wind patterns and I much prefer Palo Alto. San Francisco (the city, not the airport) is another story. As we live only 90 miles away, it used to be a fun weekend getaway. We even honeymooned there many years ago. Last time we were there about 8 years ago now, it was already in serious decline. We used to enjoy strolling down Market St. and Union Square and shopping. Even at that time, there were druggies passed out on the street and it was necessary to step over the pools of urine. Those that were awake were begging, some rather aggressively. When I came back to my car, a homeless woman was urinating on the rear wheel. And now its only gotten worse and many of the stores we used to enjoy have moved on. But they spend $5M a year to hand out drinks to alcoholics in what they call a controlled program. We refuse to patronize a city like this that can no longer control itself.

Glad you enjoy Yank Sing, but it's very touristy and expensive. More convenient if staying downtown SF, but then again hotels around union square aren't what they used to be, either. Consider the chinese shopping districts in the west part of the city (Taraval, Noriega, Clement, Irving) . We used to go to Koi Palace (daly city) weekly, and they have added Dragon Beaux on Geary. Our current favorite hole in the wall is Riverside Seafood on Vicente. Also, possibly consider Smith Ranch (now rebranded as San Rafael Airport) in the north bay, or Gnoss in Novato, to avoid the Oakland and SF dumpster fires. Hegenberger, the 880 offramp to OAK, is a no-go zone.

@dennythomas88873 күн бұрын
Signature here is the same. 20 gallons of 100LL and "parking fee's (while you get fuel) come to over $300, that was 5 years ago. But they would be happy to wave the "fee's" if you buy 100 gallons or more of fuel. The Cherokee we were in would only hold 100 gallons if we put 10 Jerry cans in the back seat. 🤣 The reason for the fee's is your GA is taking up space they could put a Gulfstream or a Citation in.

The major problem with areas like this is the left wing politics which do not support law enforcement and go overboard with the woke agenda. San Francisco is my favorite city. I was born in Berkeley. I ran the Bay to Breakers three times, either when on active duty at Treasure Island (1980-83) or as a retired Marine. I am a life member of the Marines Memorial Club (2 blocks off Union Square). I worked in the City in 1987-89 as an administrator for a large security firm providing high rise security. I no longer go there because of all the negatives created by bad administration. It breaks my heart. I think things may be starting to turn around, however, as the voters in SF fired their mayor and attorney general (I think that is the title). The citizens are getting sick and tired of the mayhem. I wish them all the success as the City deserves to be a jewel once again.

It's been sad to see such beautiful cities (Oakland has some beauty, too!) struggling so much. Hopefully they'll pull it together before I'm too old to visit again. It is a complicated issue, but there are many simple solutions that can build together to make a real change. The brief shot of the fuel bill was interesting, too. I'm not a pilot, but I've always wondered how much fuel general aviation aircraft use. I've seen estimates that commercial aircraft average 50 passenger-miles per gallon of jet fuel-is it comparable for smaller aircraft? There are fewer people onboard, but also there are smaller (and fewer) engines. I'm also hoping to see some smaller aircraft electrified in my lifetime!
@laura-ann.07262 сағат бұрын
Small single-engine General-Aviation aircraft like the Cessna 172 or Beechcraft Bonanza have fuel consumption rates between 8 and 12 gallons per hour, and cruise at about 130 to 160 mph. A Cessna 172 with people sitting in all 4 seats (assuming you can carry 4 people and not exceed maximum takeoff weight), will likely be cruising at 5,000 feet, 130 mph, burning 8 gallons per hour = 16.25 miles per gallon x 4 people = 65 passenger-mpg. Larger, 6-passenger, higher-performing planes like a Beechcraft Bonanza with a turbocharged 6-cylinder engine might be burning 24 gallons per hour, but flying at 180 mph at 12,000 feet. That works out to 45 passenger-mpg. That's not as good fuel economy as a C-172, but you get where you're going in less time, and the turbocharged engine gives you a higher ceiling - usefull when you might be flying from the Bay Area to Reno and you need to cross the Sierra Nevada mountains. Turbo-prop single engine aircraft like the Cessna 208 Caravan or Pilatus PC-12 have much higher fuel burn rates than piston engines, and cost way more to purchase, but the turboprop engine gives these planes the ability to carry much heavier cargo loads and fly at higher altitudes. The costs of ownership of even the smallest planes, like the Cessna 152, are now so high that "recreational" flying is almost dead. Most people who own airplanes, even small ones, are using them in some way to make money, or to offset income for tax purposes. Oh, there are still relatively wealthy people who can afford recreational flying as a hobby, but it's not like it was before the 1970's, when it was still possible to buy an older Piper Cub for not much more than the price of a good used car, and avgas wasn't ridiculously expensive like it is now at $8.00/gallon.

Fisherman's Wharf, Hyde Street Pier, the Embarcadero, and Aquatic Park are still pretty much the same as I remember from my childhood growing up in North Beach 60 years ago. There have been changes in the various restaurants and shops, of course, and the same crowds of tourists swarm everywhere, especially in nice weather, but other areas of the City, like lower Market Street, SOMA, the Mission District, and especially the Tenderloin, these have been hit hard by rampant drug addiction and homelessness, and are now more or less "no-go" zones. I wouldn't feel safe walking around any of those places, especially at night.
