You do realize that NFTs can be internal and have nothing to do with the current bubble. NFTs is a technology. It can work inside a game system and be disconnected from the rest of the crypto market. People look at this stupid speculative gallery market instead of the technology itself which does need to be implemented this way at all. You can make your own crypto currency for your video game, ask for zero money from players and simply use the NFTs to follow the history of various assets in the game. Because it's so flexible in implementation, you can make it so it's impossible to trade for outside the game through a direct marketplace. NFT stands for "Non-Fungible Token". And not "New Financial Toy". Not making it an NFT specifically on the Ethereum network is probably a good decision. But not making it an NFT based game at all is very debatable because as a technology it fits the game really well and it can add interesting functionality to the entire system.

@NotASheep “If the experience is the same as not owning it through the blockchain” You’re spot on. If the experience is exactly the same, then there isn’t much point besides pride of ownership. For many, that constitutes a difference in experience. A lot of us love the feeling of owning monopoly properties. And to see our proof of ownership on a publicly-viewable, immutable data structure? Well, that’s just awesome :) I will agree with you though, that as much as my monkey brain loves the pride of ownership, this alone is not too compelling for a game like this. The cool thing about NFTs in my mind is that their utility can be expanded over time as future applications recognize and expand on their utility. Given that Ben loves making tons of toy projects to engage his community, I could see it being really fun if he somehow incorporated recognizing/rewarding VoidPet ownership in his future projects. And it wouldn’t have to be Ben to expand their utility. Someone in his subscriber community could end up making something. It could be a fun way for the community to get engaged IMO.

I'm a web developer by trade. I've been building websites for more than half my life. Blockchain is NOT going to give us Web3. 😬 It's great you're not making an NFT, but your reasons for it are very disappointing. NFTs and Blockchain IS NOT AN INVESTMENT. The blockchain is a terrible idea for 99% of the proposed use-cases, including cryptocurrency and "Web3". The very premise of it has significant, insurmountable technical issues that cannot be resolved. (To be clear. These issues won't disappear with handwaving and theorized 'future innovations'. They are fundamental to how blockchain functions) The modern internet was built by network engineers and 90+% of us are shouting at the top of our lungs that you're being lied to and that both Blockchain and Web3 are DOA and unscalable. If you believe that blockchain is going to replace edge providers, CDNs, DBs and DNS networks, you're delusional. The speed is gobsmackingly slow. Transactions are irreversible. Editing code requires gas fees, and in the end it STILL isn't truly decentralized. For literally EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of blockchain that is beneficial, there already exists better alternatives so long as you accept a trusted 3rd party. Blockchain only had value as a trustless transaction system. The technical issues with building a decentralized internet are massive. Blockchain is a laughably bad attempt at building the semantic web. Web3 will happen, but it won't be on blockchain and it won't be kids hyping each other on Discord that make it happen. It's going to be fucking networking professionals that actually understand how networks operate. Stop listening to social media influencera and start listening to the actual fucking professionals. 🤦♂️
