I discovered the 940’s through watching your video’s. I bought one for myself. You don’t have to turn your back on the 940 just because you got a new knife. The 940 holds this distinction, “it is a working mans knife” with no frills or excuses. It’s nice to get a knew knife capable of being an every day knife. However don’t DIS my 940!

@@MrOzzy281 because that's all the negative he said about it so he obviously doesn't own one. And I don't know what "most" 940 owners use them for but in a user roll the bugout blade is more practical than the 940s because it is thinner behind the edge and not so wedge shaped. It slices through all kinds of material much better than the 940.

I only have a few EDC knives (I'm a user, not a collector), but the bugout is definitely next on my list. It really strikes a balance that nothing else I own does. As nice as the blue is, I am hoping for some more color choices. A stonewashed blade with a nice forest green handle and thumb stud would be very nice. Are you listening, Benchmade?

First, I am a huge benchmade fan and own several. I was so excited when the bugout came out and I loved it, but I couldn’t let myself buy one because of the handle. I think if they made a g-10 or aluminum scaled model, it would be the perfect EDC. It gives me the “fizz” but I’m holding out for an updated model. 🤞 You should check out the Grizzly Ridge, the material is extremely grippy and will hold it in your pocket, even when using a pocket clip.

I ended up carrying a Ganzo 720, when the belt clip , like you, became a hinderance I removed it and just put it in a belt pouch. Have had for years now, been wacking woods with it for trail clearing, shooting lanes, etc, and then touching it up a bit for the steak dinner. Copy of the Lion steel. My buddy gave me a 940, it is sitting in the drawer, did not want to damage it. Thanks for the channel, it is my go to for reference

Then about 3 weeks went by, My Mom was over and my girls (Wifey Daughter ) were planting flowers and all of a sudden my 2r old says poppa poppa look look !,, my mom turns around And low and behold in a shrub hanging on the smallest branch my knife is hanging there my daughter saw it I didn’t hear her at first as I was carrying a large bag of potting soil on my shoulder . I smile and say well I have two now :) then I was lectured by my Mother for leaving a sharp knife where my daughter could get I also,no longer use the belt clip. Try the Mel Pardue thumbhole mini griptilian with 20cv blade if you want perfection. I love my benchmade so much I'm afraid to carry them. Almost lost my carbon fiber 940 by leaving it on the bed of my truck. Drove for 30 minutes before accidentally realizing once I arrived at my destination and saw it 2" from the edge of my flat bed!!!

I saw the Bugout on a Blade HQ best EDC knives video last year and it looked great. the instant I saw one in the store I held it and it was a done deal. I've carried it for over a year now and there hasnt been a day go by that I dont carry it, use it, flip it for fun, tell others about it, etc. I honestly feel like it's the perfect knife. I will buy a sand color one when I'm ready to send this one in for sharpening because I can't imagine being without one for a day. The shape, profile, build, weight, blade material, pocket clip, action, lock, are all perfect. And its not so aggressive looking that you pull it out to open a box that you scare people away. I have more conversations about the knife started with me than any other that i've ever carried.

Yesterday while shopping at knifeworks in sevierville Tennessee I walked up to the bench made counter and asked to see the 940. The sales person looked at me and said "this one is selling like crazy right now, apparently there's some KZbin guy named wranglerstar who talks about his all the time and now all his fans want one". I've only owned case knives but after seeing the benchmade I had to have one. Thanks for the videos

Don’t sell or debt rid of the 940. Id pass it down to Jack. I got my Grandpa’s Buck 110 folder that he got brand new the year it came out and that was around mid 60s. When I bought my BM 912 before it was discontinued, I used it until I got the 810 Contego to replace it as my EDC. The 912 is in my tool chest as a spare BUT I’m not going to sell or get rid of it. A lot of sentimental value as it’s my 1st Benchmade I’ve ever bought.

Everybody has their favorite. I finally add a _Black Kat_ to my collection and realized I loved the thing but wanted stainless steel so I did some checking and got one in stainless steel. Not a pry bar but it does great on food prep and cutting up steaks. It is a lock back even though it dates back till about 1863 or there about. I can open it one handed if I want to though it clearly is not designed to do that.

Everything he said about the buyout is true I loved it but I was shopping for a tool I could use daily and stand up for years and i didn't feel as though the bugout would hold up. I could squeeze the handle scales together almost touching each other. I didn't feel the durability that I get from my 940. I would carry this knife if I wasn't working or using it as a tool because it is a beautiful knife for sure

I've carried a Spyderco Delica for probably 20 years or more. I'm on my 3rd one because I've lost two others. When I saw your video last year I think it was, about the pocket clip causing you to lose your Benchmades, I began to carry my delica in my pocket - which made it very uncomfortable due to blade shape. Because of that, for the last 6 months or so, I've carried a Case 3-blade folder like my grandfather used to carry, but it is kind of a low quality, entry level blade, not as sturdy or functional as the Spyderco. I guess I've been too lazy, complacent, or perhaps nostalgic to replace the Spyderco with something more apporpriate, and was not willing to shell out the $$$ (perhaps due to my paranoia from losing my beloved Spydercos) for the Benchmade 940 that you love so much. Seeing the Bugout now, with its lower price point has me really thinking... I'll be anxiously awating your followup review on this when the initial fizz is off the rose - so to speak. :)

Very interesting, thx. As a relative newb to 'collecting' knives, never quite understood the appeal of these 'minimalist' Spyderco, Benchmade, etc. kinda knives, usually in some super steel sandwiched between a couple slabs of G10, that often seems so 'plain-looking' (especially for a "$200 knife"). Though even as a 'traditionalist',I can see the appeal of a good blade that maybe also appears a little less 'intimidating' in your typical everyday biz or office setting.

I'm watching this while eating lunch in the home office and my wife is getting ready to go somewhere, so she's walking back and forth doing this, that and the other and popping in to ask if I like this necklace or that. She just stopped as she walked by the door and said "Geez, is he still talking about that knife? How much can he say about one knife?!" LOL I'm still drawn to the Griptilian line. I've had a mini for 15 years or more and it has served me faithfully and still looks great. I've debated over the full size Griptilian for years, but rarely need a blade longer than the 2.9 inch one on the mini. If I need something bigger I grab a fixed blade. The Bugout looks too rectangular to me, plus it's too thin, great for pocket carry, but I suspect hot spots would develop quickly when using it. Don't care for the 940 blade or aluminum handle either. But that's why they make so many different knives. Not everyone likes the same thing.

Check out the 940-1, granted its $250 but it has carbon fiber scales, full steel liners, a s90v steel which is upgraded and it has backspacers and its open in the back. It'll renew your love in the 940. The bugout is great for edc but its not as hard use as the 940. I think there's room for both in your life. The 940 would be great for jobs around the homestead and the bugout being as light as it is would be a great pant suit pocket knife for a night on the town.

I have a first run production bugout #450 and it's amazing. Its held up very well. Amazing blade, good fit and finish, and it's just the right size. Only downfall the handle feels flimsy compared to the 940. Great for EDC but not as strong as the 940 or griptillian. I'm going to school to become a gunsmith, work on a farm, and run heavy equipment and use it everyday and its held up to all the abuse I could throw at it.

Both excellent knives. Already own a 940 but holding out for the mini Bugout. Are you listening Benchamde?? Please!

The 940 blade is great as a farm knife. Instead of looking at it as a reverse tanto. I see it as modified spey.

I had a 940. It was the knifeworks exclusive in 20cv and layered g10. I sold it a few months back and I am really starting to regret it.

Two pillars? I guess I would think of the pivot point as the thrid leg of the stool. Looks like a nice little knife.

Awesome knife but I can't get over plastic scales and honestly I think the 940s blade is much more beautiful even if it isn't as good for things like food prep. What gives me the fizz is the rugged and worn look of my 940 and infidel. 2 off the best knifes ever made.

Now you should get the CF ELITE model. I just picked up a beautiful Osborne. Classic EDC hall of fame knife.

I must say, I prefer the “reverse Tanto style” blade on the 940. If u want to check out a great and inexpensive(124.00) full tang from Benchmade, Is the Puko(9 3/4”L)It is made of great steel, benchmades rubber, non-slip scales( sry I forgot the name of what they call that style of scale. It comes w/ an ok sheath(8-10) with a side Ferris rod holder. Again, check it out and I’m positive you’ll fall in love w/it. It reminds of acSOG Seal Pup. BENCH MADE QUALITY and warranty!!! U cant go ever go wrong w:a Benchmade

Ok, what's with the hippie music in the background? I wish the Bugout was ground thinner because I like a knife that cuts. And if you think a Bugout is impressive(it's nice but only after you put some carbon fiber scales on it) wait til you hold some custom handmade knives. And I think a button lock is the best lock.

I’ve personally cannot get around the plastic it is weaker no doubt over an aluminum bodied knife plastic is weaker

I like it, and would certainly take one if offered, but as far as value-for-$ goes, I think it's hard to beat my Cold Steel GoldenEye. $20 or so less than the Bugout, has S35VN steel, nice and thin, and has the tri-ad lock, which I could hang from (180lbs). Loving it!

Been EDCing a BK&T Ka-Bar ESEE (BK24) in a kydex sheath for quite some time. Before that was a Benchmade Commander with the wave feature. Both great knives.

As I listen to yet another awesome video today, I can’t help but begin to be mesmerized by the background music that reminds me of those old subliminal recordings made to help you lose weight or become more social etc. Ha! I have longed for a 940. Out of my budget. Some day!!! 😁

For me its like comparing a new truck to an old one. Shure the new one has more features and might have a more comfortable seat. But there is something special about the old design. it feels more like a tool rather than a toy.

Haha, I did the same thing 7 month ago, but in ranger green. I love this knife, even if it’s not as sturdy as my 940-2. I never left home without it ever since. But you shouldn’t sell the 940, it’s worth to keep it, as a backup, and for more serious tasks.

I agree 100% with you Cody! Nice descriptive words on this video. Just received the bug out a week ago from Blade HQ for the same price as Amazon and also received a free deck of playing cards with pictures of knives on them.
