I love all your videos. I’ll even just listen while driving. I did the Bowron with a couple of my boys like a month after you.

"I feel Like an absolute weirdo, talking to you from inside a tent, in my backyard". Hilarious and great review. I was totally unaware of Naturehike and am in need to replace my old MSR. Subscribed, thanks man!

I don't understand how people just talk to a camera in public, I can barely do it in my own backyard😂

I have the Cloud Up 2 version (like a bit more room for myself), which is freestanding unlike the 1 and absolutely loved it. Used it on in some torrential rain and horrible winds, and it hasn't leaked a drop. I have upgraded tents since, but still bring this one out on occasion because I trust it more in storms than my trekking pole tents. The ONLY complaint as you mention, is the front entrance. If you can adjust to that, I absolutely recommend it. Since I only use it for myself, you can crawl in beside instead of over your sleeping gear which makes it easier. Yes, the weight isn't ultra light. But I don't expect it for the price. It definitely punches above its weight class.

I've seen some of those trekking pole tents, and they look sweet, and can be super lightweight, but I don't know if I want to have to trust them in big winds like you say. One day I'll probably pick one up, but I always like the idea of a regular poled tent. I'm a heavy guy so the thought of me desperately tried to shed weight out of my backpack is kind of weird. If I'm worried about the little extra weight from a tent, I'm almost certainly better of going on a diet pre trip😂

@@SARGEinc Completely understand haha, there's something to the comfort of having a freestanding tent. You also worry less about some surfaces which might not hold pegs or support a trekking pole tent as easily. Value is a huge factor for me, so the thought of spending +$400 on a tent for me is a crazy thought haha, light weight or no

@@brentperron6914 The surface you put pegs into is a big fear. I've definitely been in rocky or sandy areas where my regular tent pegs come out. I'd be hooked if that was the only thing holding my tent up😂

Don't pay that exorbitant price for the Gear Aid brand. Get Coghlan's seam seal for about 5 bucks for a 2 oz. bottle. It's water-based silicone, so it's a lot thinner and not easy to apply neatly (not that I care about that), but it dries to a flexible but not sticky finish.

best of luck on your adventures in your new tent hope you enjoy :) Can fully understand the choice you made and not disagreeing with it at all !!! Just should note that the MSR has to cover the cost of the R&D to make the design others copy - and as far as I know MSR is only made in Seattle and Ireland - so its not fair to compare the list price
@SARGEinc

Ya fair. I'm definitely a fan of cheap Chinese shit, but that's definitely not for everyone. And if they make it in the US and UK, then that will definitely drive up the cost and there's value in supporting "local".

Looks similar to my McKinley tent for $149. The Kea 3. Poles anyways. Lots of mesh keeps me dry but cold in the fall. My marmot limelight P3 also bought $200. Is my favourite. Atmosphere had a blow out sale on their Marmot stuff years ago. My go big or go home haha Cabellas Alaskan guide 8 man that we put to the test over the years but was expensive is my favourite tent bought it for the rain , I hate getting wet and don’t do tarps. Haha. My Eureka tents are good too but they get expensive also. Let us now how the tents holds up over the years. Another cool video.

Thank you. I'm a big fan of using those 10×10 pop up canopies. I just buy the cheap ones from Walmart, but they are so much easier that putting up tarps. They are easy to set up and mobile, so you can move them to wherever you want shelter. Although the older I get, the more I just try to avoid camping in the rain lol

I need to get myself something to camp outside of the vehicle as well. Been looking for something that is not as openly vented and still has a rainfly.

Sometimes it's hard to camp in a tent when you have a vehicle to camp in. I used to tent camp way more before I got my old 4runner, then I just camped in that all the time. Now, with the van its even harder. I do still like a little backpacking trip or overnight canoe trip, but day trips out of the van are nice.

Tents have come a long way in 9 years, now your basic tent is actually pretty good, where a cheap tent 9 years ago would be a summer tent only and the rain would just go right through it lol. That new tent looks pretty good, but a bit too small for me I think, I'm too tall. I'm used to 2 man tents being too small for 1 person lol.

@@SARGEinc LOL I bought a big 65" 4K tv to put in my game room, and it's been in the box for months while i play Super Nintendo on my 28" RCA CRT tv hahaha. But yah I bought the big 4k panel because I was blown away by how cheap they are.

I've had very bad experiences in the past with the rain performance of a Naturehike tent, and that was a number of years ago but basically due to the bad tent design the water would drip from the fly to the tent body and permeate the fabric leading to internal drips and the sleeping bag getting saturated with rain water within a few hours. This caused a choice of either getting hypothermia, or packing up in the rain at 3am and starting to hike (which I did). While they may have improved their design, they lost my trust. Also, to my eyes this tent looks extremely narrow. For me I prefer to backpack with a wider tent so that I can have my backpack inside next to me, but if that works for you then great. Now I am using a 2-person Big Agnes tent and I also have a 4-person Kelty tent both of which perform much much much better in rain than the Naturehike ever did.

My biggest fear is it not holding up to the rain. Like you say, if your sleeping bag and stuff gets wet, you're kind of fucked. That's a bad situation to be in just to save some money. I'm currently optimistic, but I'm going to find out at some point how waterproof it is. As for the narrowness, it's definitely narrow, but I did have room to stuff things down the side of me, but obviously there's not as much room as my 2 man. I do a lot of canoe camping, so my stuff is often in waterproof containers and can just be left outside. There's only so many things I need to bring inside.

I'm from Abbotsford BC, which is an hour out of Vancouver. Us people here on the west coast don't really sound that "canadian". Usually the canadain accent is from people out east. I can definitely try to eat some poutine

The Naturehike Trek 1p is smaller pack size, weighs less and sells for under $90. The Cloud Wing 2p is $219 and weighs less than the Hubba Hubba. Just food for thought.

I asked my neighbor if they had a tent for me to borrow for a trip like 8 years ago and she's just like "yeah, my sister has one you can have" it was a brand new "escort" kit that came with chairs, sleeping bags and tent in a luggage sized bag. she just gave it to me. I've used it so many times since then and just love it! however if i was backpacking.. it would be too heavy. gotta love a good amazon deal!

That's dope. Kit sounds awesome, ready made full camping set up. As far as the hammock is concerned, I actually just bought a hammock on Amazon prime day. I might use it coming up this summer, I kind of want to use it to bicycle camp. I actually went through a time when I hammock camped before, but that was a long time ago now.
