After describing the negatives, the positives on moving from Canada to US are: (a) more career opportunities; (b) lower taxes; (c) lower consumer good prices; (d) good school systems in affluent areas; (e) good health care provided you can afford it. If working in USA for 10 years cumulatively, one will be qualified for Social Security benefits as well, on top of Canada's OAS and CPP benefits. Social security benefit will be reduced if one takes CPP from Canada.

One does not really have to get a similar position in the US to feel secure, there are way more jobs in the US. I also left Canada after 13 years with a secure job to the US. So many jobs working remotely in the US . The social life is different, one can drive from one state to another, Flying within the US is quite affordable compared to Canada, there is so much to do in the US. Life is really more than just jobs. Mental health is at risk when one focuses on living to work.

@smwk20172 жыл бұрын
In USA, children can attend public schools for free regardless of their immigration status. After high school, you have to pay to attend post-secondary education. Some smart students are identified as "gifted" and sent to special classes. In high school, the electives differentiate those who want to work hard (advanced and AP classes) and those who won't. Kids are taught American version of history. For example, War of 1812 is taught differently between USA and Canada.

In USA, cost of health care is very expensive. I have employer health care insurance. Besides paying part of the premium, I have to pay $3000/yr deductible before coverage begins. Then it is 20% copayment for over-priced drugs and medical treatment. Also, sending kids through universities costs a lot of money. I paid $105,000 USD (after grants and scholarships) for sending 1 child through 4-yr university in an in-state school. This is a bargain compared to $60,000 USD per year in some elite school.
@IIII......2 жыл бұрын
smwk2017 It makes sense for the US healthcare to be very expensive. They have the best healthcare quality compared to what Canada has. Besides, there are ways on how you can get healthcare in the US without paying thousands of dollars. Option 1: work for a big company like Coca-Cola, UPS, FEDEX. Option 2: Be low-income. No other options. As for the universities, their education is very good. If you search up the best universities in the world, most of them are located in the US. High quality education shouldn't be cheap.

I work for a large US employer with 18 billion net sales in 2021. Also, if your spouse is working full time, they want your spouse to be off your insurance. Most students owe debt upon graduation; there is a limit on how much they can borrow. Many parents and grandparents also owe debt to finance their children or grandchildren's education.

The minimum wage in my State is $7.25 USD, far below Canadian minimum wage. If you are a professional, you can earn more in USA simply because of US/CAN exchange rate and lower taxes in US. Canada has higher taxes to fund provincial-run health care systems and other welfare benefits. If you are a new immigrant, I feel Canada provides better chances to succeed. Canada is more "socialist". USA, especially Republicans, believes that you need to make it on your own.
