Great video! I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and recently moved to Houston, TX a year ago. Best decision I've made in my life. Your video was very accurate and I had the same feelings, even as a native with the lifestyle there. I had to get the heck up out and create a better style of living for myself and my son. I enjoy visiting but in dosages. God bless you and all the best on your future endeavors.

I was born in Brooklyn NYC. I lived here ALL my life and I. Cannot. Take. New York. Anymore. The gentrification, the hipsters, the crazy high rent for terrible apartments rats and roaches included. I feel like I am being displaced by people who are looking for "up and coming neighborhoods", I feel like I am being displaced because white young hipsters think Brooklyn is cool. I hate that it is overcrowded, its high intensity, its extremely stressful, its chronic stress. I am trying to figure out where to live and take my kids. I have my bachelors and I love my job but I NEED TO GET OUT OF THIS GOD FORSAKEN CITY.

i got the hell out of ny too. and im not going back, cuz really its only going to get worse as time goes on. look at all these videoblogs about getting out of NYC. its rediculous. I should have left 10 years ago. im kicking myself for this all the time. I am currently in Jacksonville Florida I love it there's a small city surrounded just like ny They have a seaport with river walkways concerts and music in the summer. Just like NYC It's not on a large scale like my but we have mostly the same thing going on here as NYC. it's not crowded there's miles of tropical sandy beaches. Apartments have all luxury amenities. there are museums here, art, flea markets, fresh seafood from the ocean. We even have a west indian carnival like brooklyn on a small scale. k there are nature walks, national Parks for camping hiking. I don't have to deal with the bums begging me on the subway anymore I don't have to fight with angry people for a seat on the subway. No more stressed out from just commuting everyday in New York anymore

Hi i m moving out of nyc in 4 months and counting the months. I am also moving to michigan as well. Grand rapids. And when I tell people that i m leaving nyc i get the crazy look too. People just don't realize NYC is mad expensive overcrowded fights on the subways its just chaotic I hate it. So Grand rapids is way more peaceful and I am so happy I am leaving. Glad you happy now too.

I loved this video, I waited until I have been in the healthcare industry for going on 17 years and miserable, to decide I needed to make a change...it's awesome that you are so young and was able to realize your unhappiness in the place you were at and was brave enough to do something about it. I pray your continued success and growth in your career.

I understand you very well . I live in NY for 10 years did not like it since the beginning , still feel miserable. So ! Time to move from NY . I could not before for few reasons , but now I am ready to move :) and want it very much ! New York not for everyone. Some people love t , some hate it . My opinion - its nice to visit but not nice to live in NY. Ok , time to go for me too :)

The only reason why me and my husband packed our family up and moved to New York is because we got caught up in the hype. My husband is actually a police officer and I am finishing off my Residency since I am under contract. We literally went broke moving here just to give our children a safe place to sleep at night but that's about it. Before we moved to New York my children had a nice big yard they could run around in, the air was clean, and it was more safe to be honest and affordable. The prices are outrageously high and you know it's bad when the prices are even high in the Bronx now and it's nothing but gang and violence infested. I can't wait to move this upcoming new year. One thing I will give New York is the beauty it have, but it's only good for visiting unless you were born and grew up there.

Hi Donyale - I literally stumbled upon your channel bc I did a search saying 'why i left ny' and here you were preaching my story. I actually moved out my apt shipped everything back home to New Orleans after 7 years - I am still in NY staying with a friend hoping to find a job back home before the snow falls but my mom always told me I can come home so if a snowflake hits the ground I am out! It was just great to hear someone share my exact sentiments because I never have been happy here with the quality of life and I did live alone, but the subways and buses just the streets themselves are disgusting. And no we do not OWE anyone an explanation but of course everyone wants one. IT was the message I needed today because in the meanwhile I am also starting a youtube channel. I am subscribing and hope that we both succeed!! If you ever have time please take a look at my channel also - small but I had to start somewhere.

I have a lot more peace, so I pray for that for you as well! I just subscribed so we will keep in touch!

Top Tips before moving to NYC1. Forget the whole idea of moving to NYC 2. Find some other place to live and work3. After about 2 to 3 days of visiting, return home.4. Save money and aggravation, and find somewhere else to build a life.5. Forget about the idea of NYC.6. Distract yourself from thinking about moving to NYC.7. Get ready to be Miserable if you disregard steps 1- 6.

When that thing called STRUGGLE starts looming, it's hard to extract spice in your life. Daily requirements can get basic like those noodle cups, baloney & PNB Jelly sandwiches, cans of chicken soup and tuna. Trying to stretch every dollar and SAVE while maintaining mental & physical health will PREPARE your spirit and strengthen your resolve to DO BETTER.

I applaud your honest. NYC is a tough city - which is great at moments - and then definitely there are moments when it's smarter to choose a different path and allow yourself to rest, reset and choose what's next. I think it's major that you chose to see the signs and did something about it.

I am planning to pursue journalism in New York but after seeing the comments it seems like a bad idea. However it's my dream and I would like to ask those who have Lived there before whether it's suitable for me to move there. I'm from Singapore and I live near the city. Everyone works more than 7 hours and we are always rushing for work etc. Everyone here is focused on their work so would it be worse in New York? Are people rude there? Is there no life there except work and paying rent and bills?

For a video titled 'WHY I moved" you never even state WHY you actually left. All we got was that you were unhappy.... but why?? Were your finances not enough? What was your job doing exactly that made you unhappy? Were your neighbors bad? Was your schedule too demanding? Were the liberal marxist nutbags too much? What was it exactly about NYC that made you unhappy? You dont have to answer but I'd just recommend doing a part 2 so people can be more cautious if they are thinking of moving there. Jus saying. Anyway you seem like a total sweetheart and Im glad you're in a better place. We live, we learn, right?
